Laura Bush Defends Michelle Obama Against Patriotism Attack

Laura Bush also defended Sen. Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, for a controversial remark on the campaign trail in February.

"For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback," Michelle Obama said in a speech in Milwaukee.

"I think she probably meant I'm 'more proud,' you know, is what she really meant," Bush told ABC News. "You have to be very careful in what you say. I mean, I know that, and that's one of the things you learn and that's one of the really difficult parts both of running for president and for being the spouse of the president, and that is, everything you say is looked at and in many cases misconstrued."

Laura Bush is one of them. She read the scripts she was given and stood up on command to help sell the war and defend her husband and boost his approval rating. She played the part of Stepford wife which is how the Republicans see the role of First Lady. She was a good little neocon wife and remains so.

the only time first Lady's or potential one should take any criticism is if they don't apologize for a mistatement.

Misses Obama has no designs on policy or future office she is there to support her husband.

Oh please...w­e all know Michelle has some resentment issues going on...I mean, between her essay and a new tape coming out about her ranting about "whitey", this woman has some serious problems that she needs to work on. I always thought Laura Bush was an introspective, kind-hearted person who, through her own weaknesses, allowed her family and friends to force feed her a Republican world view. By the time she figured out the Neocon agenda she was already in the White House and in an impossible situation. Thanks to her inherent weakness, she will go down in history as an accomplice to the destruction of all that was healthy about the United States...I­'m not sure she deserves that.
