Laura Bush Defends Michelle Obama Against Patriotism Attack

Laura Bush also defended Sen. Barack Obama's wife, Michelle, for a controversial remark on the campaign trail in February.

"For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback," Michelle Obama said in a speech in Milwaukee.

"I think she probably meant I'm 'more proud,' you know, is what she really meant," Bush told ABC News. "You have to be very careful in what you say. I mean, I know that, and that's one of the things you learn and that's one of the really difficult parts both of running for president and for being the spouse of the president, and that is, everything you say is looked at and in many cases misconstrued."

GOD BLESS LAURA BUSH for explaining that Miclelle Obama did not mean bad by expressing the for the first time in her ADULT LIFE, she was REALLY proud of America.
Actually, ABV THIS WEEK did the unthinkable : they actually showed Michelle saying that line BUT THEY .........DELETED the word ....REALLY ..........out of her mouth.
I was so shocked at this CENSURESHIP that i jotted down the time it was 11:11 am that sunday ???

Laura Bush looks like and sounds like a decent intelligent and sensitive woman. I wish Lynn Cheney were of the same kind. It is a shame that her nobility was exploited for the dirtiest and deadliest cause of the PNAC conspiracy.

I think Laura Bush is great. I've always liked her. Is it finally safe to admit that on HuffPo? I'm even more impressed with Jena. How that lousy lout W. lucked out and got such a level-headed spouse and daughter is beyond my ability to understand.

I don't think I'd say great. I think she's firmly on the right. However, I've always felt some sympathy for her. It must be difficult to clearly be the most intelligent of the two and watch her monkey go out and play president.

There's no question about that. She probably has many qualifications that her husband lacks. First she was a librarian and a teacher, so already we know that she can read. This would be a real plus. And I think she has a real moral compass. The Prez will do and say anything, because he actually feels that he is guided by God's hand. This is very scary.

Have you forgotten that lavish inauguration, the Bush women in their many-thousand-dollar gown, Bush daughters spilling cleavage in the deaf of winter, the most lavish and expensive inauguration in history and the security costing the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars, while soldiers were being blown to bits in Iraq because of the Bushes?

Laura performs a role. Nobody knows if there is a brain or a heart or a soul in there.

I commend Laura Bush for her comment. Very classy. During this campaign we have had only a few moments of grace and class from Obama's opponents. Jack Kemp, Mike Huckabee (which promptly undo with his comments before the NRA) and now Laura Bush. I applaud her for it.
