Martin Bashir

As reported over the weekend by the UK's Daily Mail, British ABC reporter Martin Bashir — who famously interviewed Princess Diana in 1995 — has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The New York Post reports the sad news of Bashir's brain tumor:

Martin Bashir - the British TV reporter who conducted headline-making interviews with Princess Diana and Michael Jackson before becoming an anchor for "Nightline" - has a brain tumor.

The tumor was discovered while he was being treated after banging his head on the Times Square studio set of the ABC late-night news show.

The tumor in his pituitary gland is small, according to reports, and doctors have no plans yet to remove it. He has returned to work since the discovery as doctors monitor its growth.

TVNewser reports ABC's official statement on Martin Bashir's brain tumor:

"An MRI scan recently discovered a small growth on Martin Bashir's pituitary gland. Bashir's doctors have advised that no immediate action be taken as they monitor the situation month to month. Bashir is feeling well as he continues to keep a full schedule anchoring and reporting for ABC News."

A great journalist??? This guy is a douchebag. Hopefully he will heal and provide us a neverending stream of tabloid hackery.

Pituitary adenomas are not malignant. They can produce endocrine problems, and can be controlled via the use of some medications. They can be surgically excised, via the nose, rather than via a normal craniotomy, if the need occurs. This is a relatively common type of tumor, and is not technically even a brain tumor.

It is in the pituitary gland, which lies in a fossa or indentation in the base of the skull. Once again, we see ill-informed reporters spewing things which are not true.

Is the tumor malignant? The report left that information out. It makes all the difference in the world as to his prognosis.

No. His tumor is not malignant.

It's believed that 20% of the population has these tumors and the vast majority will never know it.

The only time you would know it is if, as with Mr. Bashir, you have an MRI of your head for some reason, like an accident, and a skilled radiologist can see the usually very, very tiny tumors, OR if the tumor is causing vision or endocrine problems and you have a smart doctor who can make the connection. Presumably, Mr. Bashir's doctors have done tests that ruled out vision and endocrine problems and will do routine checks to see if the tumor grows at all. My guess is that his tumor is less than 5mm.

My tumor caused a disease called Cushing's. In my case, it took so many years to diagnose, as weight gain and fatigue are the major symptoms, and I've had four unsuccessful operations. Only now is my latest doctor saying that the tumor, at this point, could become malignant and spread.

I believe that Mr. Bashir has nothing to worry about.

Martin Bashir is a great interviewer. I hope his doctors are aware of the latest research in Europe showing that cannabinoids and THC kill cancer cells. The future of cancer research lies in this direction. I sincerely hope Martin checks this out, and wish him all the best for a speedy recovery. So handsome, too.
