CNN's Political Ticker:

With gas prices reaching a national average of four dollars a gallon -- a record high -- John McCain is planning to resurrect his call for a national gas tax holiday, which became a staple of his stump speech in late April and early May.

A McCain aide told CNN's Dana Bash on Monday that the Arizona senator planned to plug the gas tax holiday in public statements throughout the day as a message to voters that he understands the plight of working families in a tough economy.

"Look, over here. Nice, shiny gas tax holiday. See how it sparkles? Don't watch that Iraq thing. Pretty, pretty gas tax holidays for everybody. Yay!"

What can a republican do in times of recession when running for President? He wants to appeal to any ray of populist sentiment available to him to manipulate and blind voters.

Did you notice that he is not wearing a flag pin?

McCain echoes Marie Antionette's "Let them eat cake."

Most po' folk can't afford a car and use public transport instead. The tax holiday will not save THEM the estimated $40 over the summer that it will save ordinary middle class drivers, and up. Not that $40 will buy ANY family a "nice" meal. My family of four generally requires at least $60 to enjoy dinner in an upscale chain restaurant, and that is without alcohol.

McCain sounds great when he talks "cutting taxes", but what about offsetting reductions in spending? (Not that democrats are particularly well positioned in this area, but at least they are willing to offset at least some spending with tax restoration on the uber rich.)

It did not work the first time around, so let's try again! That's the spirit...

Hmm... what if he tries the same thing with Iraq? Or Iran....

McCain is a idiot and it's only June and he's getting on my nerves. This guy will do nothing for this Country....that's not true, he'll hook up the rich and that's about it.

As a blunt reminder, play Credence, "it ain't me", every day until the election.
It aint me, it aint me, I aint no military son, son.
It aint me, it aint me; I aint no fortunate one, one.

Or maybe the American people don't have any memory?

Hmmm . . . . I liked the Abba-video-idea better than this.

Man, McCain must have hired some geniuses.

Psssst........Johnny, people didn't buy this sham from you or Hillary. They see it for what it is.

HINT: If you want to find the real culprits for high oil prices, look at the speculators; the hedge funds; the sovereign funds. Don't try to buy us off with an insignificant little tax rebate. It would have as much of an impact on our budgets as a fart in a windstorm anyway.

Oh, boy...

Yep, cut the gas tax so the highway infrastructure goes to hell so that attempts to privatize it have a better chance of succeeding with the end result that the Average American can pay "private investment groups" to go to work...

Republican nirvana...

This dude hasn't even been present to vote in the senate much this year. This is PANDERING. Bush already said he would veto. McWar, we're already into mid June. So are you talking about the summer of '09? Cause you know the senate will not even get the legislation together in time, much less than the needed approval to overturn the veto. Gimme a break!
