Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan, whose scathing memoir about his time in the Bush administration sent waves through Washington D.C., has agreed to testify before the House Judiciary Committee, a senior committee official told The Huffington Post.

[Update: Watch McClellan discuss his upcoming testimony on MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Video below.]

McClellan's book "What Happened" detailed the "propaganda campaign" that led up to the Iraq war. His hearing is expected to focus heavily on the outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame, an episode that McClellan has said was driven by political motivations from within the Oval Office. But the committee could press the former press secretary on other matters within its jurisdiction, including the possible authorization of torture by administration officials (though it remains to be seen how much knowledge McClellan has of that topic).

Earlier on Monday, Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers sent an letter to McClellan requesting his testimony.

"I have extended an invitation...after discussions between Committee staff and his attorneys," wrote Conyers. "In his book, Mr. McClellan suggests that senior White House officials may have obstructed justice and engaged in a cover-up regarding the Valerie Plame leak. This alleged activity could well extend beyond the scope of the offenses for which Scooter Libby has been convicted and deserves further attention."

The date on the invitation, June 20, was set in advance to accommodate McClellan's schedule, the official said.

McClellan will be the highest-ranking Bush administration official to be pressed by Congress on the Plame affair. Former Bush strategist Karl Rove has refused to testify, citing executive privilege.

And as such, the testimony could be extremely revealing. According to McClellan, the decision to leak Plame's covert identity emanated from the very top of the Bush White House. The move, he wrote, was politically motivated, as officials were peeved at the critical statements about Iraq coming from Plame's husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson. While McClellan said that the president was ultimately misled by his advisers on the matter, he asserted that the episode itself was a stain on the Oval Office - one that led to his disillusionment.

"It's...clear to me that Scooter Libby was guilty of the perjury and obstruction crimes for which he was convicted," McClellan wrote. "When the president commuted Libby's prison sentence and thereby protected him from serving even one day behind bars, I was disappointed. This kind of special treatment undermines our system of justice."

Ok, for everyone who thinks Bu$h and his cronies are going to the Hague, understand that the US is not a member of the ICC.

As useless trying to explain that as it is to try to explain to people that an Impeached President loses his Power of Pardon even before conviction and removal from office.

But they could be indicted in any other nation (ie. Belgium,) which has a law saying war crimes can be leveled even if they were not committed on their soil.

U.S. law would not allow for an accused person to be extradited in such a case.

Belgium already dropped the charges when they tried to do that. Diplomatic pressure prevailed. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B02EED8143DF936A1575AC0A9659C8B63

The US won't recognize any charges levied on foreign soil.

Rumsfeld had a brief scare while in France, but fled the country before anything happened.

I don't expect Bu$h or D*ck to be visiting Paris in the future.

I say once again, after this and his being the first of 0bama's competitors to endorse him (in IA), shouldn't Kucinich be highly considered to be part of 0bama's "Change/Reform Administration"?

He is sticking to that line that there was no plot to warp the info with the goal in mind of attacking Iraq. He said it again to Keith today. How can you hear all of the information and come to any other conclusion? The more he insists that this is the case the more that Bush and crew can say that he was out of the loop. I knew as soon as the towers were hit that Bush was looking for an agenda maker. Someone invented an incident off the coast of North Vietnam and look what followed. The same is true of this war. Something had to happen to make this all allowable. Was it real or was it fabricated? It still comes down to the msm. None of this was sold without a sales pitch. The massive media blitz to go to war out shouted any voices that wanted to hold on a minute and discuss it. In the sales business this is called handling objections with a hard close. Do you feel like you bought something that you didn't want to and now your money is gone?

If the mood of the country is any measure, Kucinich's introduction of the Articles of Impeachment tonight just may take off. People are more than fed up with the lies, the torture, the unnecessary war and the cost of the war.

If impeachment were ever called for, this administration is screaming for it. The people are ready and willing.

(While undergoing impeachment, can an administration start another war?)

Yes, Pelosi reminds me too much of the consummate Washington insider. More worried about keeping with tradition, even if that tradition is breaking the law and bending our constitution. It's almost like rubbing elbows with the president is some kind of power trip high for her. She will criticize, but only in the bureaucratic "acceptable" way. Boring Pelosi, never willing to really stick her neck out for anything.

First off Scott will only say what we have all suspected, but becuase there is no proof (documents) it boils down to his word against Cheney, Bush or Rove. The spin machine can say he is lying due to being fired, or just sour grapes, or whatever. Since they have no documents (e-mails) nothing can be proved, the adminsration gets off as usual they are not stupid, well Bush is but the rest aren't. Scotty gets thrown out there is ridculed and labeled a traitor, called a nut ball liberal, everyone says ok but, and Bush says so what I can do what ever I want Congress said so, and they did with a couple of bills the patriot act comes to mind, which I might add has nothing to do with partiotism.

Yes, maybe nobody will get convicted and go to jail, but..... this can't be good for the republican machine and McCain's campaign. This is still BAD publicity and thats GOOD for the American people! And who knows, sometimes when you stir up the bushes (excuse the term), you may flush something out!

Bush and Cheney, are the best thing that have ever happened to this country!! With their brazen, greedy, Soviet cronyism, and a callous incompetence so bad that even animals said, "Who the f**k is running this place," they blasted to smithereens forever, the notion of White male superiority. They singlehandedly made it possible in 2008 for a Black man, and a Woman to be given serious consideration by the electorate, to be the leader of this country. In fact, Bush screwed up so bad that a well-financed animal would've gotten a fair hearing. Though it probably would've experienced still lingering specieism, and right-wing media bias.

Give Bush and Cheney credit where credit is due!! They are the true initiators of change!! They are the ones who crashed through the glass ceiling from above. They are the ones that have forced us to actually start thinking again.

I am watching Rep. Kucinich on CSPAN right now. I would love to get a comment from Mr. McCain tomorrow on these charges.

Kucinich is an interesting individual, to be sure, but he's no dummy. He wouldn't go down this path without the documentation to back up what he's saying.
