Now that the Obama campaign has turned its focus towards the general election against John McCain, leading Democratic fundraisers are predicting that Obama's fundraising could skyrocket even higher than it already has. Specifically, some predict that he could raise $100 million in June:

Leading Democratic fundraisers predict that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will raise hundreds of millions of dollars over the next few months if he opts out of public financing and begins raising money for the general election.

Specifically, they say Obama could raise $100 million in June and could attract 2.5 million to 3 million new donors to his campaign.

These fundraisers say Obama could increase his fundraising dramatically because of three factors: a boost of enthusiasm among Obama donors following his clinching of the nomination; the migration of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-N.Y.) donors to his camp; and the mobilization of big Democratic donors who have given little so far this year.

Record-breaking projections give Obama strong incentive to pass up $85 million in public funds that his opponent, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), has said he would accept.

Check Huffington Post's Fundrace to see if your friends, neighbors, colleagues and even your boss are adding to Obama's potential $100 million haul.

Outspending Clinton 3-1 was hardly enough to win him the primaries. Without his streak of February victories, he would have lost the primaries big time, despite all his money.

Mone is important, but not that important. Look at the contests in March. He lost all of them safe Vermont, Oregon, North Carolina and Montana.

Last December he was given almost zero chance of winning. He did an amazing job and it was partly because of the money he received. HRC is $30 mil. in the hole and she had all of the press.

I know Obama can't bail Clinton out with our donations (thanks be to God), but will he be able to help out others at the lower end of the ticket?

If he can't just give money to Sen. Clinton why would you think he could just give it to others? Really!

It was an effective tactic for Ross Perot in the 90s - he built a more credible 3rd party effort than anyone expected before he self-imploded. I like the idea of infomercials, taught by Prof. Obama, as well as some more folksy stuff taught by people on the road.

I just set up recurring payment - a small amount - to be a part of the $100 million.

I don't care if he makes 200 million in June. I still will continue to donate because the GOP have lied, caused deaths, and damaged this great country.

Screw the whining republicans on this blog, screw the GOP and screw McCain. If the situation was reversed and their candidate was getting 100 million, you think they would give the democratic party any quarter? Not a fat chance. For a generation the republicans have been using their advantage in money to clobber democratic candidates in every election. Now the show is on the other foot. How does it feel?
I give money to Obama every money as part of a huge grassroots movement, that's public financing in its truest form. I certainly hope Obama refuses government financing after the convention, he'll need the extra money to compete with the fat cats of the McCain/Bush/RNC triad.

Amen, amen, I say to that! I will continue to support Obama with $100 until he wins the general, and now that he is the nominee, I will once again donate to the DNC coffers. He will have coattails and then some.

Jimmy Carter was ahead of his time. If we had followed up on his energy initiatives instead of frittering away 30 years we wouldnt be in anywhere near the kind of pickle we are in now with oil! Jimmy Carter could've been one of the best things to happen to America but we had to waste all this time proving the world how worthless Republicans are.

I love how the HuffPo deletes my comment about $100 million being spent on starving people. To suggest that the insane amounts of money that flow into these bread-and-circus modern US Presidential campaigns (which usually start about six months after each election) could be better spent on things that matter, I get attacked.

Look at all the hate directed toward Kucinich, Gravel, and Ron Paul, the only ones in this entire debate who dared to tell the truth.

The problem is our political system, and the permanently corrupt US Government. In the future - no matter who is in charge - we will see nothing but more wars, more deficits, a collapsing dollar, an ever-shrinking middle class, and a permanent decrease in our standard of living. The wealthy will park their money overseas in the New First World, as we become another third-world country with 5% rich and 95% poor. To suggest that the mess can be somehow be "reformed" - by Obama or ANYONE - is as naive as it is ridiculous.

Remember, the problem is our SYSTEM. It cannot be reformed. It must be done away with. And eventually it will, probably in a catastrophic collapse. Just don't say no one warned you. Enjoy your Obama.

Starving people need to vote Democratic and get a President who cares. Listen, if you have to go 50 miles to work and there is no train or bus, you have to buy a car.

Can your neighbors say "He should have used the money to buy a house?"

Well they can, but what sense would it make? Without the job, how does he pay the mortgage?

Without the right President ( which we have to spend money to get) how do you get to feed the starving people? And by the way, I thought those were only in Africa? Starving people in AMERICA???

NEVER SAY SO!

One word: infomercials!

If Ron Popeil and every other huckster on the continent can put on lengthy advertisements, why can't we? EXPLAIN things to people clearly. Debunk, preemptively, the RNC and Neocon talking points. Debunk Faux news.

We have the money, why not?

Cheers

There is nothing more powerful and unstoppable than an activated, ennergized and animated Americans. I have been constantly amazed by how creative and self-propelled they have and continue to be, producing videos and posters that have turned this presidential race into one for HISTORY. Take a look at this new video. Someone took the trouble and did it right!

This presidential election cycle gives new meaning to the phrase "voting with your pocketbook" - the real good news here is that via our champion Barack Obama, we the people have broken through the Washington DC power barrier and are about to assume the reigns of control - Howard Dean was on the same track until he was brutally derailed by said power brokers - not this time, not this year.

This is something I'm pretty nervous about. I'm hoping that SO many voters come out for Obama that it'll be much much harder for the thieves to steal the thing, as exit polls and the like will hopefully be way skewed in favor of Obama - and in the age of YouTube, reports of voting machine funny business could get out faster to the public. If the announced results differ drastically from the exits, then hopefully more of a ruckus will occur in the media and on the net. Also, with Obama's 50 state strategy, hopefully there'll be watchdogs at lots of polling places making sure the intimidation tactics that happened last time won't go without notice and reaction this time around. Plus, we have HuffPo this time around! You know they'll be all over any funny business AS it's happening.

now that the primary is over, all those snarky 'Hillary Supporters' just magically disappeared. Was there too much chaos for them?

I do though expect them to reincarnate into "Nadar Supporters", and they'll look just as foolish and be equally ineffective.

With all the hats they are wearing this year, Republicans are going to be some very tired chicken hawks by November

It's funny how "opting out of public financing", in this case, leads to true public financing, i.e., financing by the grassroots while keeping out corporate lobbyists and special interest PACs.

I think Obama is clearly going to win the "money race", and if/when he wins, he will be answerable only to The People.

GOBAMA!

Obama is going to win. On a list of a (baker's) dozen reasons, #5:

5. The Money Factor: A corollary to the Organization Factor. Obama will have lots of it and will be able to raise more and more of it. To those who say that money can’t buy love or office, agreed, at least in terms of the former. But money can certainly help win office. It is especially helpful if you have a good candidate, a good brand as they say, to sell. Obama is such a brand.
