Now that the Obama campaign has turned its focus towards the general election against John McCain, leading Democratic fundraisers are predicting that Obama's fundraising could skyrocket even higher than it already has. Specifically, some predict that he could raise $100 million in June:

Leading Democratic fundraisers predict that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will raise hundreds of millions of dollars over the next few months if he opts out of public financing and begins raising money for the general election.

Specifically, they say Obama could raise $100 million in June and could attract 2.5 million to 3 million new donors to his campaign.

These fundraisers say Obama could increase his fundraising dramatically because of three factors: a boost of enthusiasm among Obama donors following his clinching of the nomination; the migration of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-N.Y.) donors to his camp; and the mobilization of big Democratic donors who have given little so far this year.

Record-breaking projections give Obama strong incentive to pass up $85 million in public funds that his opponent, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), has said he would accept.

Check Huffington Post's Fundrace to see if your friends, neighbors, colleagues and even your boss are adding to Obama's potential $100 million haul.

I wish you guys wouldn't raise expectations for no good reason. What if he raises 80mil, that's still a lot but then everybody would be disappointed. And then if he does raise 100mil nobody will be excited because it was already predicted.

If I was in the O campaign I'd be pissed about the !@#!@# who released these statements.

Fund raising must be reported along with donor totals to ensure that individual donors don not exceed the legal limit.

Since when is "could", hard news?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:43 AM on 06/10/2008

Because it's really a "will."

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:00 AM on 06/10/2008

Since I gave the campaign a couple hundred bucks. And so did tens of thousands of other people every day.

If you've got circumstancial evidence and figures to back it up, and the claim is extraordinary, then "could" is always hard news.

Gee and the big corporations donating to McSame's campaign will own him lock stock and barrell, and we will be the ones funding Obama, just regular folks, don't own a beer company, an oil company or any company, just a widow who give him $25.00 a month as that's all I can afford,, but I've been giving him that amount since he started and for the first time in a very long time I feel good about a candiate! Imagine that!

I'm with you! and while we're at it, every time the repubs make some remark about where dem money comes from, dems should scream back loud and clear about where Obama's money comes from as a contrast to where Mccain gets all his money. can't let them get away with that propaganda again and again. not this time!

What you are doing is like betting on "Big Brown".

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:52 AM on 06/10/2008

Here's a strategy. First, let's all give to the Obama campaign to the max. I am the very definition of poor, but I intend to give to Obama for a 3rd time (before this I'd never given a political donation in my life). Let's make this $100 million speculation come true.

Next, something I call "Operation Reverse Chaos". We should do everything possible to make Bob Barr (Libertarian candidate) more visible and split off some of the Republican vote.

Finally, let's all send email to Hillary, encouraging her to come out even more enthusiastically for Obama - perhaps even travelling with him to places like West Virginia (the University there is a good place to start) and Ohio.

What do you think?

The only problem is Bob Barr may be as much a problem for Obama as for McCain since the primary electorate to whom Barr will appeal is the disgruntled Republican who is disatisfied with the direction the Republican party has taken. Isn't that the kind of cross-over voter Obama is trying to pick up?

No.

Barr appeals to the far-right fringe.

O appeals to the moderates.

Great strategy!

Now thats a good one! And lets not forget that Ron Paul hasnt conceded neither! Do a reverse Operation chaos on all fronts by bringing up Barr and Paul AND by not leaving the healing between the 2 camps up to Obama and Clinton! As his supporters we need to help out as well! Most the divisions happened right here on poltical blogs and tickers! We can start helping out in that area as well! Im down for it! Anyone else down we can all agree and map out the sites and hit them starting today! we can even use my personal website as a base! LOL kareemrashad.com check it!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:16 AM on 06/10/2008

Oh yeah, forgot about Ron Paul. That's a great idea. So let's spread the word. We don't have to disengenously promote Barr or Paul - just be sure to bring up their names as viable candidates in the political and more Repulican leaning blogs and news sites Politico.comm, Slate.com, Foxnews.com, even Rush Limbaugh's site - whatever that is). I think if it is a widespread effort it can work.

With all our justified enthusiasm for Barack, let's not forget down-ticket races. We don't just need to win the presidency, we need to win more seats in the House and Senate...heck, we need to send the Republican Party the way of the Whigs!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:29 AM on 06/10/2008

The current version of the GOP is the equivalent of the Whig party. It's time to allow the dinosaurs to become oil. They could finally serve a positive purpose for the entire country.

Knowing the Obama movement may be the last chance for We The Sheeple to evolve into We The People, I gave up stopping for a morning espresso and eating out for lunch. `Then signed up for an automatic $50. monthly deduction. I now have enough left over to give an additional $150. or so per month.

Fortunately, while trying to find some way to by pass gasoline, about 4 years ago I modified an old VW diesel to run on free Waste Veg Oil. A couple of years later I bought an old creampuff Mercedes 300D Turbo, went through it from front to rear, replacing all rubber products, etc, and also modified it to run on free WVO. I added a green decal on the rear window that reads, "Powered By Pure Vegetable Oil. The old thing get's about 30MPG on the highway....

Anyway, Wife parked her Lexus and now uses the old Mercedes as a daily commuter.. LOL, so if I have to, maybe I can talk her into donating some of the money she's now saving on gasoline.

There is the possibility that Obama will help pay down Clinton's debt. I don't want to help with this in ANY WAY so until I know for sure that the money will go ONLY to Obama, my contributions will go to down-ballot candidates - directly to the candidates and not the DNC. Does anyone still trust either the DNC or the DLC?

I've previously given a little after each primary -- Now I'll be giving a little bit each payday.

Don't forget to donate to the DNC as well for all of those "down ticket" races.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:26 AM on 06/10/2008

My recommendation is don't give to the DNC outright. There may be democrats who should lose their seats. Once you give to the DNC you have no control regarding who gets your money. I rather give directly to the candidate.

Pass up the public funding......because...the public ( great american citizens) will fund your general campaign...............that you can take to the bank!!!! :)

could and maybe, in article not much facts. Whole idea is to be 'invest' a substantial amount in red states, in order that McCain needs to keep up, instead of focusing on key states only. Eventhough campaign is relatively correct still yet, this will probably change when hallmarks of a defeat will stare them in the face, the smear campaign will than be unleased. Furthermore some in this administration may well wonder if they will get under scrutiny come next year in relationship to questionable policies of interrogation and Iraq. Cheney has somewhat less power, but am not totally at ease if he doesn't has something up his sleeve concerning Iran. needs only an excuse, and will hopefully solve than too the elections, the thinking goes. Should be a terrible mistake, but people who are feld in the corner may well jump out of fear what otherwise could happen - impeachment, investigations etc. Obama some time ago hinted at this possibility.

This is the first year since I started voting in 1992 that I have actually contributed to a campaign. I put my money toward what I believe in. I'd love to see $100 million for June! Sen. Obama has to use the money in a wise manner but I love the 50 state strategy. I never liked when people just focused on a couple states. The whole country matters!

I have been voting since I turned 21 in 1972 and this is the first time I have contributed financially to a campaign. It is also the first candidate I have seen that gives me hope. Barack Obama represents my once-in-a lifetime opportunity to be part of a changing force - to help all of us reach our potential and flourish.

I am very disappointed that, the day after Congressman Kucinich introduces impeachment articles into Congress that the Huffington Post does not have a word about impeachment. It should be the top story. If Huffpo neglects it, then obviously, the MSM will also fail to cover it. When Clinton was impeached, it was all over the news; and Clinton's crime was lying about an affair. The impeachment of Bush will require news media coverage. It should at least start with Huffpo.
And don't try to tell me that the country can't handle an impeachment and still get Barack Obama elected President. We can handle it.
Fundamentally, the Constitution is America. If we fail to impeach, we fail America.

Sorry, but you are quite wrong.

There is no impeachment to make news.
Kucinich was, as always, tilting at windmills, which is seldom newsworthy.

The focus is---and should be---on electing O'bama in November.

At this point, any dreams of impeachment are just distractions from the issues at hand.

Kucinich said that America should focus our attention on Barak Obama, should Dennis drop from the race. We have. He was right - again. Kucinich should hold a position of influence in Obama's administration.

Have to agree....AND note that there is a slow and steady stream of information coming out on the workings of the Bush/Cheney cabal and it's cronies. It's taken a frustratingly long time, but the truth is being revealed and substantiated.

Let the process takes its course.

I applaud Dennis Kucinich for his introduction of impeachment articles. Yes, it deserves fair coverage in ALL the media... Yes, more legislators should stand behind this effort... Does is stand a snowballs chance in hell of going anywhere??? Not this year... But just because it will go nowhere does not mean there is no point in making the effort... Good for Congressman Kucinich!
