Now that the Obama campaign has turned its focus towards the general election against John McCain, leading Democratic fundraisers are predicting that Obama's fundraising could skyrocket even higher than it already has. Specifically, some predict that he could raise $100 million in June:

Leading Democratic fundraisers predict that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will raise hundreds of millions of dollars over the next few months if he opts out of public financing and begins raising money for the general election.

Specifically, they say Obama could raise $100 million in June and could attract 2.5 million to 3 million new donors to his campaign.

These fundraisers say Obama could increase his fundraising dramatically because of three factors: a boost of enthusiasm among Obama donors following his clinching of the nomination; the migration of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's (D-N.Y.) donors to his camp; and the mobilization of big Democratic donors who have given little so far this year.

Record-breaking projections give Obama strong incentive to pass up $85 million in public funds that his opponent, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), has said he would accept.

Check Huffington Post's Fundrace to see if your friends, neighbors, colleagues and even your boss are adding to Obama's potential $100 million haul.

Support needs to go to Barr as well. Its time to pay back Operation Chaos. Barr will take votes away from McCain.

We're sending money to Barr also? OK, McSame deserves it. Delay's wife is voting for Barr apparently. Talk about chaos, lets do it!

I can't afford it all, but Barr is going to be McCain's Nader. I have read where he already has 6 to 8 per cent of the Republican vote.

I'm pretty sure that Halliburton can just build John McCain a new White House and have the Supreme Court vote 5-4 that it's legal.

I have never donated a dime to political campaigns. This year has been so different. I gave first to John Edwards and now three times to Obama. I realize the answers to our complex problems are not within Barack Obama, but he has convinced me that those answers are collectively within us as Americans if we just stand up together. He is a good man at the right time. We must elect him as our President. I plan to contribute as much as I am allowed to by law. Despite our family economic hardships, I know it is the best investment I could make.

Mark Warner is going to win big in Virginia. He is extremely popular and loved by Republicans and Democrats alike in this state. I actually hope Obama does not choose him as a VP running mate, because I want two democrats from Virginia in the U.S. Senate. Warner and Webb!

Amen to that! Leave our senators in the senate, and pick up a term-llimited governor as VEEP. I'd be okay with Kaine on the ticket, but I'm really pulling for Bill Richardson!

Here's to a Bright Blue Virginia in 2008!!!!

Good post. I'm glad someone finally pointed out what "IT" really is about Senator Obama. Naysayers angrily proclaim that he is not the "second coming" nor is he the answer to all our prayers. Apparently, as supporters you and I both agree. He has inspired millions of people to become active in politics, to take back the reins of government, and recognize our rightful place in deciding the future of thei great country.

His campaign has always been about the American people and what it could mean to regain the freedoms fought for by our ancestors. We should expect more from our representative form of government but what has occurred is...we've lost civil rights, there is greater division amongst Americans, we're less safe from terrorism, our trade deficit is 5 trillion, unemployment is up, wages are down, health care is unattainable, gas is $4/gallon, our military is tapped out in an un-winnable, ill-advised, unnecessary war, and America is more and more hated globally.

Senator Obama tells us that things can be different and we don't have to succumb to the conservative ideal that we should be controlled, spied on, deceived, and broke because that's just the way it is.

we need web as VP -- he can bring some sanity to the war debate --- an ex-marine/sec of navy for the REAGAN administration (get those reagan dems) -- he is of the same irish blood as the appalachian irish (or as hillary labeled them: "hard working white people") he is extremely intelligent, well versed in economics, well read, honorable, an author of history, a likable guy and entertaining character and a sharp debater who has no fear and doesn't take any sh*t.

I'm in the "Millennial" Generation and I was reading other comments about other young voters like me who are "sacrificing" $25 as often as they can. Like they said, it's an investment in our future. We're in the frightening, yet exhilarating position of having nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Good job. I'm 54 and have been investing in your future as often as possible! Make sure ALL your friends are voting, and not for grandpa. At 54 I'm tired at the end of the day, gramps doesn't have the correct mindset let alone the temperment or energy for the job.

I'm an older, out of work white guy, who because of stubbornness and idealism told his boss to GoFHimself, so I get no unemployment and my life is not easy. Still, I have become devoted to Obama. I send at least $50 or $100 per month, more when he gets attacked. I also sent $50 to the DCCC when they got threatened.

I have never been prouder to be an American! When I think about MLK and RFK and then see Obama standing there, it just brings tears to these cynical old eyes.

Well said. This country is putting things into perspective now. And I will tell you - watching 0.bama accept the nomination on the stage in Denver, 45 years to the day after MLK's "I have a dream" will be one of the most emotional moments in the country's history.

I think it is the fact that WE are so cynical that makes this movement possible.

We have grown sick and tired of same-old-same-old.

We demand CHANGE

I've been donating regularly to Senator Obama's campaign too. But let's not forget our local races. Here in Texas, Rick Noriega is working hard to unseat Senator John Cornyn, who is a right-wing Bushite. I'm donating to him as well. We all know how hard it is to unseat an incumbent--even one who doesn't vote in our best interests.

Please remember that in order for President Obama to get things done during his administration (doesn't it feel great to think about the Obama administration?), he's going to need support in the House and the Senate. Get familiar with the races in your state and try to come up with some cash for the progressives there too. Let's help get them all elected!

I'm most certain that the coattail support is a major part of the 50 state strategy and it will definitely be a benefactor of the massive fundraising effort.

LIMITED TO AFRICAN AMERICANS, YOUNG VOTERS, AFFLUENT VOTERS, COLLEGE EDUCATED VOTERS, WOMEN UNDER 60, INDEPENDENT VOTERS, OBAMACANS, AND NOW DISENFRANCHISED EVANGELICAL VOTERS. HE NEEDS HILLARY TO WIN, NOT!

Even though I am happy to know that O'bama can raise this kind of money, I still find it obscene that we will be spending that kind of money on a political campaign. Every election they spend more money than the last time. When will it end? I know, when we have public financing. That day can't come soon enough.

It is obscene but it is also the current reality. If we get Obama in with a dem congress, we should expect significant election reform. Another consideration is that most of this money is going right back into the US economy. That can't be bad.

Though I know what you mean, seems to me that voter donations ARE public financing.

And I'd rather see Americans spend money to elect the president THEY want (rather than Washington insiders and corporations making that decision) than spend money on junk food, for instance, or have only wealthy people able to run for office. This use of voter money is much more in their self-interests, at least this time around.

It is obscene. What is more obscene is the money that was wasted on this primary after the outcome was clear.

I'm sure the thousands and thousands of people that money went to in the form of salary were quite thankful for it though. That money, all of it, was spent right here at home in the US. Caterers, car leasing agents, banquet hall owners, office space renters, phone bank operators, printers, graphic artists, all the people that work at various television stations, ad makers, hotel personel, support staff, etc. At this time in our country, with the economy we have, I'm sure those thousands and thousands of workers are thankful that money is being spent in their industries, keeping their paychecks flowing. Those people can then spend money on food, clothing, etc keeping others employed.

For the first time in our lives, we are regular contributors. We are giving Obama $100 a month and will continue through November. I would do it in my children's names. However neither is yet 16 and this would create a legal hassle.

This is one thing that I think we can do. I am also taking a week off work in November to travel wherever we need to go to support him in the last few days of the campaign. Currently we are on the verge of being the first generation of Americans who have handed their country over to their children in worse shape than we inherited it. I really feel Obama’s presidency might be the one thing that can be done to stem that tide.

I'm glad to see that he has such money-raising power, but the amount of money spent on US elections is a huge disgrace. Russians often ask me how it's possible when there are so many economic problems in the country and around the world--I'm at a loss for an answer. Let's support him financially and otherwise, but after he is elected, we must implore him and Congress for radical campaign finance overhaul measures...

We can go to the video tape, Obama said he would look into it. You all have to remember the video tape when you type. Also, could you please check out the number of lobbyists John McCain has working for him or have worked for him? Did you see that John McCain's health care proposal cuts out anyone with pre conditions. Pre conditions are the reasons so many people are losing their homes. Health care is a crisis and one effects the other.
