Last week, some nimrod commenter over at Cal Thomas' blog at Human Events took note of the affectionate "fist bump" that Barack and Michelle Obama shared last Tuesday night and remarked, "Michelle is not as 'refined' as Obama at hiding her TRUE feelings about America -- etc. Her 'Hezbollah' style fist-jabbing..." The comment, which did not apparently manage to drag itself across Cal Thomas' threshold for accepted idiocy, was scrubbed from the post, but not before a lot of people noticed, including Fox News' E.D. Hill, who teased a groundbreaking segment on dap thusly: "A fist bump? A pound? A terrorist fist jab? The gesture everyone seems to interpret differently."
MediaMatters has announced an "action" today, asking readers to sign a petition and call Fox news to complain about Hill's effervescent stupidity. But, perhaps aware that the fist bump is the hottest thing in politics right now, Obama himself is taking it in stride. In a video posted over at Ben Smith's Politico blog, we see Obama and North Carolina Governor Mike Easley dapping it up. Seconds later, Obama and Easley would exchange the "thumbs up" sign, which is clearly a secret sign to the Fonzie Liberation Front to begin a jihad against broken jukeboxes.
