The reconciliation process between the upper echelons of the Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton campaigns has already begun, as advisers and fundraisers look for areas of commonality in a somewhat disjointed party.

Three Clinton negotiators - all confidantes of the Senator and her husband - have been dispatched to Chicago to spearhead this effort, a source told The Huffington Post. Bob Barnett, a powerhouse Washington lawyer, Cheryl Mills, another lawyer, and Minyon Moore, a political consultant, were meeting today to discuss three key areas of negotiations: what role Hillary Clinton will play at the Democratic convention in August, the nature of her involvement in Obama's general election campaign, and the Obama campaign's plans to help alleviate her campaign debt, which is believed to be around $30 million.

Such plans seemed expected. What may be more interesting, the source adds, is the B-matter. For starters, the Obama campaign is pining to reap the benefits of Clinton's large-scale fundraising apparatus. A meeting, as reported by Greg Sargent at Talking Points Memo, has been scheduled for this Thursday in Manhattan, with the New York Times estimating that some $50 million to $75 million could be on the table for Obama.

The big loot that remains to be raised by the Hillraisers, however, seems likely destined for the Democratic National Committee, whose coffers are in need of repletion. Individuals are allowed to donate $28,500 to the DNC - which is coordinating efforts with Obama - as opposed to $2,300 to the Obama campaign. Obama has begun organizing joint fundraising ventures on the party's behalf.

The most potentially sensitive matter in the negotiations may very well be about how to handle Clinton's high-profile political supporters. According to a source with knowledge of the Clinton campaign's machinations, there is concern among some members of Congress, particularly those in the Congressional Black Caucus, that Obama won't aggressively support their reelection efforts because of their alliances with Clinton. A few black House members fear primary challenges.

"These members are already facing some heat for backing [Clinton]," said a source close to the New York Democrat's campaign. "But that has been going on for a while. In some place in these negotiations between the Clinton and Obama campaigns, there will be a discussion of them providing not just economic help but moral support. That will be limited to the places where they have primaries."

"I'm sure," said the source, "that [Clinton] is saying, 'Please do what you can to make sure that the people supporting me aren't punished."

Reconciliation? Simple. Say "I'm sorry." No need to have your people negotiate with Obama's. Just apologize to him face to face, in public, for all the feces you threw at him. He'll forgive you. Then you shake hands and turn over all your votes and delegates.

There..... was that so hard?

I am all for Senator Obama supporting Clinton's down ticket candidates if they are of like minds; but paying Mrs. Clinton's bills? Not so much. Senator Obama should be very clear about his intentions in this area because potential donors deserve to know where their money is going.

Clintons don't realize it, but they are not driving this bus! In fact, they are not driving anything any more.

By "they are not driving anything any more" you imply that Sen. Obama has no need for and can make no good use of the 18 million votes that were cast for Sen. Clinton. What is the poll or study that supports this position? Was it generated by the Obama campaign?

In using the well known phrase "God Almighty - free at last," you specifically equate the Clintons with slavery and worst imaginable, most violent forms of oppression. What is the basis of that?

No, jayj. They don't need 18 million votes. They don't want mine, don't want yours, don't want anyones. They figure they can beat McCain with a handful of nasty net posters. Well, there are no caucuses in the general election. It's a straight shoot. And I figured Obama might be interested in places like California and New York. But I guess not.

Hillary's fight is over. She'll return to the Senate. She's got plenty to do there, and very little to lose at this point. She doesn't need anyone. Other than concern for her debt and her supporters, she's done with this. For Obama, it's just beginning. He has to win over people for the general election. And he wants the wealthy donor lists and a lot more from Hillary to do it. I think if that's the case his supporters should start playing nice.

But for my vote, it's too late. I'm staying home in November.

It disgusts me that anyone other than the Clintons and their adoring supporters are expected to pay off the Clintons' campaign debt. What happened to these 18 million adoring supporters of their's? Let them pay it off, not hard working people who can barely get by. Are they negotiating with Obama to have hard working Americans contribute to his campaign to pay off the debt of the multi-millionaire Clintons who still have millions in the bank, and who will make millions more by writing another book about this?

Does it possibly occur to you that no one had to wonder what Sen. Clinton could do to help Obama's campaign? There were approximately 18 million extremely obvious answers to that question, the chatter about it was relentless and Clinton's promise was unequivocal and crafted for maximum benefit to her former opponent.

As a very old Democrat and an Edwards supporter, I was originally referred to this site by a passionate Obama supporter with good intentions. Her effort backfired.

This article cites an anonymous claim that some House members who supported Sen. Obama's opponent are already "feeling some heat" and fear that this punishment may be extended to the deliberate withholding of support when they next face election.

You assert, in authoritative caps no less, that these unfortunate Democratic members will be punished, regardless of the wishes of their constituencies or the ramifications of putting their districts in play, unless Senator Clinton 'behaves.'

Forget the thuggish, back room aspects of the notion and please just clarify: beyond delivering votes, has the required "behaviour" been delineated, so that the members can gauge where they stand, or is she merely expected to march in lock step with Sen. Obama?

What these delusional Hillary supporters don't realize is that they need us as much as we need them to elect a democrat as a president. If Obama looses because these Hillary supporters voted for McShame, do they think we, Obama supporters, will ever vote for Hillary? She can't even win a dog catcher election with her so called 18 million voter base. You need us Obama supporters.

You can BET that there are a lot of former C l i n t o n-supporters among them, already.

I'm not. They said they have no choice: they are going to vote Mcn. And they were not shouting or crying or marching or disrupting, they were extremely together, calm, deliberate, etc. There will be more like them. Hopefully not many.

Don't these people get it.
if you keep scratching the wound it ain't gonna heal.
Some of us just do not want to vote for McCain under any circumstances but continuing the nastiness, the abuse and insults is not going to keep them committed to voting for Obama.
Some will just not vote, some will only vote down ticket and some will write in.

The insults have to stop before you alienate more and more.
I'll tell you, I came over here for solidarity in voting for Obama and beating McCain but I still see almost consistant hate and ugly.
I'm a pretty open person and I try to be pretty objective but I'm telling you the hate is wearing thin and I think those who are acting like they don't know why people are angry are full of it.

I'm beginning to believe that the hate mongers are really trolls and if you wanna win, you better get rid of them.
You aren't going to get people to come back here and want to work with you.
Why would they?

WERE THE PRIMARYS RIGGED?
"We present evidence supporting the hypothesis that systematic attempts are being made to manipulate the results of the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination contest, through overt means such as crossover voting by non-Democrats, and through covert means targeted at the electronic vote tabulation process itself. The net effect has been to prolong the nomination battle and sharpen its negativity, thereby boosting the prospects of the Republican nominee and making more plausible his "victory" in November-either by an honest count, or through continued exploitation of the proven security vulnerabilities in American voting systems.

"Our examination includes the Democratic primaries in the following key states: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Texas, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, each of which had surprising and unexpected results. In each of these critical elections there was a significant pro-Clinton disparity when comparing pre-election surveys and Election Day exit polls against the official vote counts.

I don't understand. Suppose the above is true. It makes it sound as if O is practicing the Old Washington kind of politics. i.e. holding a grudge against those who don't support you in something, or who cross you in some way. If he isn't holding a grudge, what would his argument be for withholding support for their reelection? He wouldn't withhold it for no reason. Is it that he thinks they are still so loyal to H that they can't b e loyal to him? That's just a guess, anyone else know why?
