"Countdown" Beats "O'Reilly Factor" In Ratings Demo For First Time Ever

MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" beat Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor" in the key Adults 25-54 demographic for the first time ever last week.

"Countdown" averaged 477,000 viewers (A25-54) vs. O'Reilly's 472,000 (excluding Tuesday's primary coverage). This marks the first time that MSNBC has beaten Fox News in O'Reilly's 8pm time slot since June 2001.

O'Reilly may want to appear on Countdown to boost his sagging ratings. Olbermann should just give him five minutes to scream at the camera. Perhaps O'Reilly can slug the guy holding the cue cards. O'Reilly would only if the guy was wearing a cast.

Olbermann is not Murrow, but if Murrow were alive today he would be doing much of the same reporting on this administration that Olbermann is. Murrow would recognize a criminal administration when he saw one immediately. Torture, illegal wiretaps, government secrecy- these practices scream out for investigation.

I've never really understood the appeal of Bill's show. I never learned anything useful. Honestly, Bill creeps me out because he seems to always spend an inordinate amount of time on stories about people's perversions, sexual and otherwise.

Now Chris Mattthews on the other hand, I learn more about our democracy. I don't always like the "hardball" tactic but I like that Matthews really breaks down the spin.

Heal how can you claim that Oreilly is losign veiwers to KO? A reduction of viewers from one show does not equal an increase of viewers in another showing since they are multiple other shows to tune it. Also there is the option to just not watch anything.

The very idea of the media in a free society is to act as a check on power. O'Reilly and Fox has some how inverted this idea and their idea of media is to protect power and concentrations of income. They do not want to uncover government misdeeds of a Republican administration, but rather leave them undetected and call anyone a traitor who is attempting to get at the truth. This idea of journalism turns traditional journalism on its head. It is an advocacy based journalism really premised on keeping people dumb and trying to persuade them that there are good guys and bad, and the bad are the Democrats. Their idea of journalism is insipid. Bush could not have gotten as far with his illegalities without the aidance and abettance of Fox.
