Maria Barack

In the latest issue of Avenue magazine — a "glossy, lifestyle magazine that chronicles the lives of Manhattan's affluent and socially powerful" — Maria Bartiromo warns the New York elite that a vote for Barack Obama is a vote for higher taxes (via Page Six):

He's going to take the capital gains tax at 15 percent right now all the way up to 25 to 28 percent," the "Money Honey" tells Avenue. "Sell anything, like a home or stocks, and make a profit . . . [almost] 30 percent of the profit will go to the government instead of 15." The income tax is also in for a bump. Bartiromo says, "Right now [it] is 35 percent, Obama wants to take that to 39 percent . . . We're talking about people who make over $200,000. That's not rich. So it's actually going to impact more people than you may think."

I'm sorry to those who make approx 200k and have it rough, but the rest of us are working our a$$es off too. Some work two jobs, maybe three. Some commute 1 1/2 to work, some can't even afford fulltime daycare (and don't qualify for daycare assistance). It's rough for alot of Americans, but taxes HAVE to be raised for advances to be made. If Barack and his economic experts think $200k is the bracket to raise taxes on, than so be it. MAJORITY of Americans don't make even a QUARTER of that.

Fine then pay higher taxes. The problem is that you only want the RICH to pay taxes. You want the RICH to pay for your decisions to have kids you can't afford. You want the RICH to pay for your decision to live 1 1/2 away from work. You don't want to accept your own responsibilities. You want to place the burden on someone else. It doesn't matter if someone makes more money than you or not. They should not have to pay for YOUR choices. If you want advances to made then start holding people responsible for their choices instead of blaming everyone else and expecting them to pay for you.

gee...the idiots that voted for Bush twice should have gotten fair warning:

"Over the course of my 8 years your children will grow up to be killed in a war I start to steal oil- not so we can make it cheaper for you but so my oil rich corporist friends can have record profits....you will get an insignificant tax cut while loosing your homes and jobs...that should help out right?oh and go shopping...the economy is counting on you.
have a nice day. "

Talk about out of touch.

She really needs to correct this - this is a insult to everyone especially people who are really struggling and about to lose their home, not to mention really sick and can't go to the doctors.

I wonder what someone from a foreign country thought when they heard her say this?

The rich people that I have worked for in the past tend to not mind paying hight taxes as long as the tax money is well spend - It really irks them when money is miss spent, scandals, special pay outs,... - when the schools are not up to par...

This is true. Many liberals claim the government to be so inept and crooked yet they are willing to entrust the government with more money to solve the problems. Education spending has tripled since Reagan was in office. Yet are kids are dumber than ever. Spending in a lot of areas have increased yet we don't see the results of that spending. Before we insult all of the rich and continue to insist we take more of their money to solve society's ills we need to start spending the money that is already being collected more responsibly. For example, we found out in California that our congressmen and senators are using tax dollars to pay for their leases on luxury vehicles such as Lexus, Cadillac, Merceds Benz. Is that the best use of our tax dollars? I don't think so.

Maria is divorced from reality, just like many others who do not get that 85% of American households make less than $65/annum.

As a minion for the Plutocrats, this disconnect should hardly come as a surprise. 85% of Americans working until the day they die? Must be our own fault. In fairness, she doesn't interact with anyone other than the hyper wealthy at work. She clearly doesn't know Jack-All about asset and income distribution in the US.

The US has devolved into (mostly) a two teer state. Unless you work for the government in some capacity - or you are a corporate officer - you will be working until the day you die.

Enjoy the Hamptons, Maria. Don't give the majority of Americans a second thought.

Don't get me started.

First, every penny a rich person earns comes from the pockets of hundreds of non-rich people. That's how the system works.

Second, Bush is printing dollars, which he gives to the rich. Where did you think we found the money for Bush's tax cuts AND the war. And who is suffering the consequence? The non-rich, of course.

Third, Obama will not raise taxes. He will just let the Bush's tax cuts expire.

And last, it is ludicrous to discuss anything with a conservative, because they drink lies-infected water. Ask yourselves the question: "do we share anything common with Maria Bartiromo?"

This whole horror that Obama might "raise taxes" is like listening to bankrupt people refusing to take menial jobs. According to the cons, raising taxes (or doing anything with taxes besides lowering them) is a far more horrific possibility than the fact it might be part of the equation of addressing the borderline-depression economy with its huge debt mess and crappy state of the dollar, unaffordable fuel & food, etc, etc.

I just wish conservatives would act like conservatives sometimes, rather than the lipservice in service of their own pocketbooks.

The Democrats won't raise taxes. They will just let the temporary Bush tax cuts expire.

You know Maria is ot doing well professionally so of course she had to say something to make news,
because no one is listening to her report it now that Erin Burnett is around.

No wonder, she does the Bush -Math to estimate taxes, just like her reports.....

Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Walter Mondale ran on a tax increase platform in 1984. He won only his home state of Minnesota. He couldn't even win in New York or Massachusetts, both known, at least in those days, as high tax, big spending liberal states. Middle America does not like big tax increases, or haven't you noticed. Most of Middle America probably does not read or post on HuffPost.

Good point, if she thinks $200k is not rich then what would she call the $20k many are living on? Moneyed people like her never discuss the shift of the tax load from the rich to the working and lower income folk. The so-called fair tax of hicky was another joke, same as forbes flat tax. These people would starve on $50k a year and the world would never miss them.

That's the point. To her, and people she meets at work, and at dinner parties, and her next-door neighbors, $200,000 probably isn't "rich". And these are the people on national television giving information about the economy!

Rich people in America need to start paying their way. They've gotten rich on the backs of the rest of America by offshoring, outsourcing and downsizing, it's time they started paying their fair share of taxes. If they are too un-American to do that, we should nationalize their businesses and incomes and send them to join other un-american types.

Obama is like the oil people. When they wanted $ 1.00 a gallon gas they went to $ 1.50 so that when they dropped back to $ 1.00 every body sighed and accepted the $ 1,00 a gallon price. Obama will settle for 300 hundred thousand income and so will congress. They will compromise on capital gains and other tax programs but they will illiminate the giveaways to the top 5 % and the oil companies will start R & D and refinery building to keep their tax breaks. America cannot survive two more years of a Bush caused economy.
