Maria Barack

In the latest issue of Avenue magazine — a "glossy, lifestyle magazine that chronicles the lives of Manhattan's affluent and socially powerful" — Maria Bartiromo warns the New York elite that a vote for Barack Obama is a vote for higher taxes (via Page Six):

He's going to take the capital gains tax at 15 percent right now all the way up to 25 to 28 percent," the "Money Honey" tells Avenue. "Sell anything, like a home or stocks, and make a profit . . . [almost] 30 percent of the profit will go to the government instead of 15." The income tax is also in for a bump. Bartiromo says, "Right now [it] is 35 percent, Obama wants to take that to 39 percent . . . We're talking about people who make over $200,000. That's not rich. So it's actually going to impact more people than you may think."

Just another rich person defending their greed. Boo Hoo. You won't be able to live off your interest the next four years.

200K isn't rich. After pay down on your yacht, your two million dollar home, and your four SUVs you don't have much money left to spend on the non-essentials at all :(

The people on TV who make a fortune giving us lousy stock tips will have to pay more taxes. How sad.

Maria Bartiromo has been cavorting and jet setting with industry titans for so long, she's forgotten what her actual job is: to report.

how on earth can anyone focus on tax hike/break as a legitmate issue

when we are spending $100 to fill our tank
can't make a dime in the market
groceries going up by the minute
insurance companies raising rates and refusing to pay for health care
etc etc etc

I mean, at some point, that "tax break" just ain't gonna cover the disasters we are facing daily in this economy.

seriously!!!

And so where is the challenge to this clap trap? It pisses me off that anyone with a microphone, a pen or computer can just throw out what ever they want without challenge. Grumpy keeps saying that B-Rock's tax policies will raise taxes on everybody in this Country -WRONG you lying scum!

These are the facts:

-Anyone earning less than $250,000.00 will NOT have any increase in their taxes- GET IT??
-He wants to raise capital gain taxes back to where it was when Bill C. was in office and EVERYONE did well. There is only a small handful of the population who earns enough from their dividends to make any difference in their income.
-He will cut taxes for seniors to ZERO!!

Okaaaay... so, the median household income across the US is somewhere between $40,000 and $60,000. Only 1.5% of the population makes more than $250K per year ,, and $200,000 is not rich? I pray for the day when I'm "not rich" enough to be in the 39% tax bracket.

These people never factor in the "trickle up" effect of the economy. In the 90's, Clinton raised taxes on the upper income brackets, and set up more programs to help the poor and middle class. It helped create an amazing period of economic growth. The lower and middle classes had more money to spend. That is why internet commerce boomed so quickly.

If working and middle class people today had more help with things like health coverage or gas prices, they'd have more money for things like, say, paying their mortgage.

Republicans are too short-sighted economically. They can't see the big picture of how policies that improve our whole nation stimulate the economy more efficiently than any tax cut for the wealthy.

By the way, I now make more than $200k a year, and would gladly pay a higher percentage of my income (or a higher percentage of my capital gains), because it will mean improving America. It's not all about my own bank account.

It's funny that those people who work for their money offer to give more in taxes to help out if they have more, even those on the lower-end of what's considered the "wealthy" class.

Most Wallstreet leeches now just hoard as much as they can by swindling and scheming while they chant Socially Darwinist slogans at the poorer classes when they get windfalls on lucky investments, nepotism, cronyism and insider trading.

Bravo! ! !
its funny how some people think if my bank account is great then who cares about the rest of the country - the fact is our country is better when more people are doing better - not jus a few

Who said $200k was rich? No it is not, but pretty damn good no matter where you live.I ask all of you one question--What sacrifices have you made or been asked to make to by GWB or McSame during the last 8yrs and during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? NONE. 4000 + dead soldiers and 30000+ wounded and most of them never did or will make $200k. Isn't the least we can do is pay more in taxes????

Listen up "Money Honey" somebody has to pay of this mess. I don't know anything about capital gains so that rules me out of having to pay 15%.

However, I'm willing to do my part. We CAN NOT live with tax cuts anymore. WE ARE ON THE BRINK OF FINANCIAL COLLAPSE!!!

And if the US goes, it looks as if the rest of the global pie will go down too. Mud pie? Even the richest have to concede that.
