During an interview with Sen. John McCain on Monday's NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams noted that "the videotape clip of your comment about being in Iraq 100 years if need be, of course, is still kicking around," and then asked, "[G]iven your support for the surge and where you believe this nation is in Iraq today, where do you see it going and will your support be there for however many U.S. troops are required?"

McCain answered flatly: "Yes. And the fact is we are winning in Iraq."

Via the Jed Report, here's the video:

In a speech last month, McCain predicted that the Iraq war would be "won" by 2013, but his comment to Williams suggests that he'll continue to send U.S. soldiers into battle even if his prediction is wrong.

I hope we don't forget the whole point of why a Republican candidate must not win, and that is not just the Iraq War, but how we got there to begin with. And, yes, Bush is still every bit the war criminal.

McBush is irrational on the subject of war, which makes him EXTREMELY dangerous. And yes, he will try to reinstate the draft.

I'm not sure McC understood the question, nevertheless he answers yes to more troops and then says we are winning. This should give every American great pause.
Not only for sending more troops, but the fact that he seemed to not quite understand the question.
Scary.

This is my problem about the 100 year war statement..Am I the only one to view it through this prism?
Is he(McC) condemming as of yet unborn persons to death? How different is that from abortion,?

HorseW/Noname : Well they're pro - retroactive abortion, that's how.

( More of the same ) McSame is at the podium right now. Why can't the Rethugs see that their Iraq Debacle will have to be paid for SOMEHOW ? !!

They couldn't have actually fallen for their own bullshit " ... The war will pay for itself with Iraqi oil " ...

( Could they ?? ) ( * - real astonishment ! )

More to follow. -ralph

It's an economic plan. Since the lower income people tend to get sent to front line infantry he's trying to eliminate poverty.

And it's different from abortion because once you pass through the birth canal he no longer cares about you.

Thank you, AHorsewithNoname and LaurieLee, for helping me to understand the need for Republicans to control a woman's body. They don't care about the life, they just need the bodies! I get it now.

The Dems only need one ad to defeat McCain--it should feature one of those fade in and out overlays of Bush's face becoming McCain's, and WWIII in the background with REAL people's/soldiers' suffering and REAL coffins.

The War in Iraq needs to become very real to the citizenry. "Pre-emption" and "bringing freedom" made this war seem clean and tidy. The Dems should let it all hang out as the horror it really is.

I think we both salivate at the idea of designing Obama's ads owiseone. The man's so easy! I'm certain video archives can provide hours of his lies. Hell, how bout 60 seconds of video of death and suffering in New Orleans while in the background, the sound track of "Happy Birthday, John" loops. And that's just off the top of my head! God Lord, the man's a walking, talking ad for Democrats.

IF BUSH HAD PUT 300.000 TROOPS THERE, WE WOULDN'T …

Dora_Rice

Your a real genius, the fact is the General officers who testified in front of the Senate got canned for saying just that, Paul Wolfowitz, Cheney’s boy, a neo-con academic, who had no military experience, fired Secretary of the Army General Thomas White for supporting General Eric Shinseki’s, (CENTCOM Commander) testimony, that at lest 300,000 would be needed to invade and stabilize Iraq.

Tommy Franks made the same case, privately, negotiating with the Lords of war, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz from 96,000 to 136,000 troops, still inadequate to control a country of 26 million people. The failures of Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz and Fief, become apparent when they wasted military assets, looking for WMD that wasn’t their, 400+ thousand armed unemployed Iraqi regulars and police were looting weapons depots, while squad size American forces could only watch.

Paul Bremer, clearly not up to the job, didn’t even know who he was reporting to, Rumfeld or Powell, so the Viceroy, a title that Bremer gave himself, took matters into his own hands, making one poor decision after the other. In the mean time Franks along with his staff left, he saw the writing on the wall and wanted to preserve his reputation.

Iraq has nothing in common with Germany 1945, it’s tuff to wage total war on people were suppose to be liberating, not to mention Germany was a liberal Democracy prior to Hitler.

Kucinich presents Bush impeachment articles

"An Ohio Democratic lawmaker and former presidential candidate has presented articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush to Congress.

Thirty-five articles were presented by Rep. Dennis Kucinich to the House of Representatives late Monday evening, airing live on C-SPAN June 9th, 2008

Why is this not being covered by any US media. This is big news and not even one mention anywhere.

Only goes to show that both Democrats and Republicans have "Discarded the United States Constitution. "Oh both partys talk a good game! "but bottom line the hell with that piece of paper. The only one worth a damn is " Kuncinich.

The articles are not against Bush but against Cheney. His reasoning is that, if they impeach Bush, then Cheney will become President (disaster), instead, he's trying to take Cheney out first, then go after Bush. Here's the link:

True. But war protestors are usually young. Without a draft they'll probably remain at home, furiously typing while sitting on their asses in front of their new computers..

I don't agree. Something's happening in this country, as evidenced by primary vote turnout.

Methinks you're going to see this "complacent youth" determining the direction of this country, and do so in masses like we've never seen.

That's what conventional wisdom has told us. MSM has been as wrong as the Bush administration. Since Barack has turned "conventional wisdom" on it's head - I predict young people will vote this year.

Non participation is so OLD SCHOOL.

To your belief I say NOT THIS TIME!

Obama campaign and all media should be demanding, daily, and counting the days, that Mcc has refused to define winning and victory. And if we have grasped those things, when can we go home. He is such a bumbler he won't be able to answer.

NO FREE PASS FOR MCCAIN. Ask about the Forrestal Fire, Keating 5, shitcanning his first wife, womanizing, innumerable flipflops, endorsement of any torture that Bush wants, plan to overturn Roe v. Wade via the USSCourt. NO FREE PASS FOR MCCAIN. AND NO FREE PASS FOR HIS BUDDY, HILLARYL

GNOME is a name for lost souls of people doomed to walk the earth until they finally disappear. ...a legendary creature resembling a tiny old man who lives in the depths of the earth and guards buried treasure.

Somebody find a pointy red hat and throw McCain out in the garden.

This morning the BBC reports that over $23 billion (yes, that's right...with a "b") has vanished from the Iraq war reconstruction effort. Every major US contractor is involved, although the over 70 lawsuits that are pending against them are subject to gag orders so none of this is being reported to the public.

This is what the rest of the world is hearing about us. We are being robbed by our own government and not being told about it by our press. Model democracy indeed!

I learned yesterday (I'll try to post the source) that we're currently spending 3X to contractors in Iraq vs. the total dollars spent toward our troops.

Why our media is sitting on this story is an outrage. I thought "freedom of the press" was supposed to be one of our strong points. Our system of "checks and balances" has suffered greatly over the past 20 years. We need a renewed and serious emphasis on media reforms. By allowing just a few companies to control 80% of our media is a prescription for disaster in a democracy such as ours. As of today, the "Fourth Estate" is, for the most part, pure fiction.
