Scarlett Obama

Politico:

She e-mailed him after some of the Democratic debates, offering her thoughts on his messages and performance. "After the silliness of the last ABC debate," she says of the highly criticized event co-hosted by Charles Gibson and George Stephanopoulos, she wrote to congratulate him on "holding his ground."

His replies have been thoughtful, she says, more than a brief line or two; on the ABC debate, he responded that the questioning was "difficult" and he was being pounded on "one silly question after another."

Johansson is somewhat shocked that he keeps up their back-and-forth correspondence. "You'd imagine that someone like the senator who is constantly traveling and constantly 'on' -- how can he return these personal e-mails?" she asks. "But he does, and in his off-time I know he also calls people who have donated the minimum to thank them. Nobody sees it, nobody talks about it, but it's incredible." She adds, "I feel like I'm supporting someone, and having a personal dialogue with them, and it's amazing."

Media should be ashamed for covering this "news".

When did mediocrity and banality become the new measuring standard for choosing the POTUS or anything for that matter? Personally, I hope America's leader is "elite"...we have already scraped the bottom of the barrel twice with Bush & Co.

Why shouldn't we demand better? John McCain's just the next step in the de-evolution of intellectual progress, he represents the next generation of stagnant beer buddy leaders. I am so tired of these month old donuts pretending that they have a vision of change, when all the most powerful among them really want is power and war which equals profits via the Military Industrial Complex.

It's time to take these clowns away from the positions they have abused, and allow someone competent...dare I say elite, to do some major damage control.

This is not an attack on you kellygirl, I know what you're saying, I just needed to vent ;)

I agree in that America really needs to take Intellectualism
off the list of Character Flaws.

It is just a very bad idea to start rubbing celebs in the noses of Middle America

Grow up, America. Chris Matthews pined for Bush early on in the "war on terror," admiring his wardrobe and codpiece on the ship in San Diego harbor. Roseanne drooled that Bush was hot. Straight guys lust after Tom Brady's body and full head of hair. Women want to nestle in Angelina's twin pregnant busoms. Women and men both would like to park their noses in Brad Pitt's armpits. Everyone has a fantasy. Remember, the people who write this stuff are jonesing for their premise long before you read their premise/fantasy. Rosie and Tom. Elizabeth Taylor and me. You and ?

I find the no so subtle subtext of this story highly disturbing. It is even worse over on Politico. Seriously? Who cares? Tons of celebrities are supporting Obama - and some of them are clearly as infatuated with him as the voters are. I bet Will Smith has chatted with him as well, why aren't we getting a headline about that? This story so conveniently forgets to mention that she has been out campaigning and doing good work for the campaign, she isn't just some random Hollywood babe with some "mysterious" access to Obama. The media never ceases to find new ways to disappoint me.

I'm really glad that Obama and his celebrity supporters are smart enough to know that it would be huge mistake to put those "Elitist Liberal Hollywood Types" in the picture

George Clooney and Leo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck have done a huge amount of work and fundraising for this campaign

they are smart enough to know to keep their head low and their mouth shut

Thank Gawd!

But if the headline had read " George Clooney Emails With And Talks To Barack Obama" or "Ben Affleck Emails With And Talks To Barack Obama" with pictures of the two men up side by side, that wouldn't have been quite as eye catching would it? In fact, they probably wouldn't have run the story. Sure, maybe it is Johannson's fault for bragging about personal emails - but hey - it's hard to blame a 24 year old for being excited about getting personal email from a presidential candidate. However, I can already see Fox News loving this story and obsessing over it.... if a fist jab can be interpreted terrorism, I hate to see what they will make of this.

I'm not going to verbalize the subtext, but I definitely agree with you (including the choice of pictures).

I remember when he was getting his first book ready. I was amazed how he described contacting writers, publishers, friends to get their feedback. He is very outgoing and VERY good with notes and calls and emails to keep in touch with supporters, as well as acquaintances and friends.

People will say you and I are reading something into the way this is PRESENTED, whsmith, that isn't there. I just want to agree with you and say--I don't think so.

So Obama emails big name supporters who also do fund-raising for him. Wouldn't it have been actual news if he didn't?

So, is there evidence of something improper going on here or does someone just want to suggest that there's something improper going on without any evidence? If it's the first, then by all means let's have the evidence and let the chips fall where they may. If not, this is just another cheap, sensational tabloid story like the ones the MSM pushes instead of doing real journalism.

I am begging ALL celebrities, movie stars, etc. leave Obama alone. He can do it without your input.

Sigh. So sad to see HuffPo & politico turning into mainstream media: build 'em up, then find creative ways to tear them down.

She is a supporter. She left three moto-calls on my voicemail before the CA primary asking for me to vote for Obama.
