Al Gore

The always colorful former Clinton aide James Carville said on CNN today that he thinks Barack Obama should choose former vice president Al Gore as his VP. He argued that Gore would be the right candidate for combating the biggest problem facing the nation: oil consumption.

Gore is in hiding due to food shortages .
Some say his climate stretegy will spawn hunger.
Chuck Hagel needs vetting.
He has many plusses.

I don't think hunger rhymes with plusses.
Too many syllables for haiku.
Not enough lines for a limerick.
Has more nonsequiters than a song by Foreigner.

Personally I think its a fabulous idea. The problem is I don't think Al Gore is interested. If he did accept the position, it would signal to the world that the US was really serious about the environment. I think Internationally the world would be very excited given Gore's credentials on climate change and sustainable development.

It is a great idea. Gore already has won a popular vote contest in November. Add in the new turn-out for Obama and you have a ticket the GOP can't match up with.

I hope you're wrong about Gore not being interested. There is important work to be done and he could insure it gets done.

If Obama decides to go with someone who has an Energy background rather than Military one (and he probably should go this route of Energy/Economy over Military), then his choices should be Governors Richardson (New Mexico) or Schweitzer (Montana). The choice would come down to which group Obama thinks he has a tougher problem with: Latinos (Richardson) or rural whites (Schweitzer).

WHEN WILL CNN REALIZE THAT CARVILLE IS NOW SO TOTALLY OUT OF THE LOOP THAT HIS OPINIONS ABOUT DEMOCRATIC POLITICS ARE ABOUT AS WORTHLESS AS BILL KRISTOL'S? THAT ASSHOLE'S 15 MINUTES ENDED A LONG TIME AGO -- TIME FOR THE HOOK!

Worst idea ever, leave Al Gore alone. I lost respect for Al Gore when he lost his home state of Tennessee.

BTW Looks like Arizona is becoming a swing state, hear that John McCain.

I often see people mention that Gore lost his home state in 2000. So did Bush. Just sayin'.

If by home state, one means where a person was born, which is my understanding.

Al Gore wasn't interested in running for the Presidency, surely he is not interested of playing second fiddle. Another stupid idea of Carville

Gore was VERY interested in running for President. What he couldn't get was party backing and the finance going. It would have been ugly too. Clintons and Gore don't get along. But, let's be clear. Gore wants to be President. He probably isn't that big on the VP, but I think the policies and power he could be given by Obama might just make up for the slightly bruised ego.

Carville is living proof that even idiots can get good jobs. Doesn't mean they know shiite about what they are saying, just means they are well paid idiots.

Gore wanted to run, but Hillary had the party. He saw an opportunity, but then the anti-Clinton inside coalesced behind Obama.

Gore is not a great Presidential candidate, but that isn't the point. You'd get ALL the votes he got, PLUS all the Obama new voters and AA record turn-out.

There is no question Obama/Gore would be a landslide winner, the single question is whether Gore would take the VP slot. Let's hope he and Obama work it out.

Is it too late to have Gore/Obama ticket? That in a way should redress the injustice done to Gore in 2000 elections.

I suspect Gore isn't too happy with Obama. He really was angling to be the anti-Clinton this year. I suppose you'd call it envy. The thing is, Gore is big enough to pretty much name his price, I suspect everyone is catching on that this doesn't even need to be a race. It can be a landslide...but probably only Gore can deliver that. I haven't heard Gore and Obama dislike each other, and what else does Gore have to do? He's got money, he's got a Peace Prize, he's won an Academy Award, he's written a book that's in every library and school across the nation. The VP job is whatever they want to make it. Not much publicity if they don't want it.

So, short answer long :)....Obama needs to make the offer, Gore has to decide if he really cares about policy or if it's strictly about being President. Because of egos I put this one at 40% likely. That's pretty good odds at this point.

Why should Gore settle for #2 on the ticket? Anyone who takes what a pundit says seriously is not bearing in mind that pundits don't speak for the majority of the people. I am not enthused about Obama, and I wasn't enthused about Hillary. Frankly, I would love to see Gore be the President and Obama as VP. But..at this point I'm about Any Democrat for 2008, until there is a viable Third Party and candidate, and I doubt that will be for 2008.

how do you know "he wanted to run"? did you ask him? because everything he has said since he lost is that he has retired from politics.

I suggest you look into his major donors and team from 2000 and read what they were saying. Clinton has been planning this run since before 2004 and all of DC knew it. Gore would have run against Hillary if he had the support he had in 2000, however it was largely promised to Hillary. By the time Gore's stock had risen to where he could have seriously challenged her, Obama came on the scene.

But don't take my word for it.

I could see Obama asking Gore if he thought Gore would take it, but if Gore wanted to be on the ticket he would of ran for President! Gore would have won the nomination by February fifth, but he did want it. He has already one once and won the Presidency and it was stolen from him by the Supreme Court. I think Gore is sick of politics. Would he accept the VP? I doubt it.

Obama will pick who he needs to win...that may be Hillary and if that is what he thinks then his supporters including me will support the ticket! I personally would prefer Jim Webb or Bill Richardson. Either one would make the dream ticket for me. Yes we can, Yes We Can, YES WE CAN!

Carville, yet again, shows that he's lost his political chops. Literally nobody is listening to him and he's embarrassed himself enough. He needs to retire.

After an entire year working to get this man to run for president, I sincerely doubt that he would do this.
If he was going to run it would not have been for Vice President!
