Forbes:

The problem with campaigns is they can only voice oversimplified soundbites. Today's challenges are serious and require long-term solutions. Both candidates need to tap thoughtful private-sector sources like CEOs. What's required is new thinking and brave policies....

McCain's top economic adviser, Doug Holtz-Eakin, blithely supposes that cuts in defense spending could make up for reducing the corporate tax rate from 35% to 25% and the subsequent shrinkage in federal revenues. Get that? The national security candidate wants to cut spending on our national security. Wait until the generals and the admirals hear that.

First time McCain seems to make some sense. How the hell much money do we need for "Defense"? The medal covered fat-cats in the Pentagon have been in bed with defense contractors since the end of WW2. They have no meaning without a war -- and, so, as we are told, all of our wars are only to "defend" ourselves -- and there are plenty of wars left ( "On to Iran!"). Well, just keep digging deeper Sheepies, and there will come a time in which there will be nothing left to "defend". Karma.

So the soldiers and marines will have to buy there own bullets and armor,
pilots will have to buy there own fuel and drop coke and beer bottles from the cockpit, and
sailors will row the ships kinda like the Vikings.
YUP- he is a McCaniac

Am I the only one who thinks McCain looks different than he did a few weeks ago? He just looks older and more sinister in his photos and tv appearances, as though he might be rubbing his hands together in some kind of malicious glee. Has he been spirited off and replaced by a changeling? Or what?

His wife looks different too....it is like something out of The Twilight Zone?

My husband noticed it too....maybe it's just this bleeping heat. Or maybe we stopped looking at him while the Democratic race was (sort of ) interesting, and he aged a lot in the interval. What do you guys think?

Eisenhower's warning fully realized: our wasteful "military-industrial complex" being challenged by McCain as a critically needed budget target.

I wonder what the reaction would have been if Obama had been the first to propose it? The headlines would have been scathing and a lot more vicious than: "wait the generals hear about the idea."

This is a steal from the rich in order to give to the rich. What a novel concept.

Forbes is making up stuff for McCain. McCain says that the only spending that he will not freeze is defense. Forbes quotes an advisor saying that he is going to pay for his corporate tax cut with reduced defense spending. Who are they kidding?

One can only hope: nobody! But the same people who voted for Bush twice might be their targets.

McCain wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years - A war that's costing $1 billion per month, and he believes that he can reduce costs and stay true to his 100 year policy?

McCains economic ideas are as old, out of touch and as tired as he is.
