I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Christopher Hitchens

The famously acid-tongued and brutally insightful Christopher Hitchens proclaimed himself near "orgasm" on Wednesday over the much maligned conduct and exit of Bill Clinton from presidential politics.

"The ex-president revealed to a crucial number of people something that many of us already knew: he is a raging psycho," said the Vanity Fair writer. "It's very gratifying to see more people catching up to that now."

Explaining that Sen. Clinton's loss was due in large part to her husband's behavior on the trail, Hitchens, a troublesome grin appearing on his face, concluded: "That pleases me more than I can say. In fact, I think I might orgasm in my trousers."

A controversial literary figure, Hitchens has long been a fierce critic of Clinton. He devoted an entire book to the former president's propensity to bend truths and tendency to use divisive racial politics. And during the current campaign he has chimed in, every now and then, with perverse pleasure over the poor-reviews Bill Clinton was receiving.

"He is completely out of control," he told the Hugh Hewitt show. "In other words, he has a lot of good friends who keep telling him, 'Bill, you must stop with this. You can't just ramble and rant on in this mad way like some tenth rate huckster instead of behaving like a former president and chief executive of the United States.' And he knows that they're right, but he can't not help himself. And it's the same with everything else."

Speaking at National Journal and Google's "21st Century Campaign" symposium, Hitchens said that he did not believe Bill Clinton was acting in a Schadenfreude attempt to undermine his wife's campaign -- an effort, of sorts, to remain the couple's most accomplished pol. "I don't think he subconsciously wanted her to lose because [her win] would mean that he was, in some way, back," he said. "Lackluster it wasn't. It was ugly, it was nasty."

And yet, lest one think Hitchens was an supporter of Barack Obama, he had some choice critiques for the Illinois Democrat as well. On the Senator's highly praised speech on race that he gave in Philadelphia during the crest of the Jeremiah Wright scandal, the Vanity Fair writer challenged members of the audience to recited a single line.

"You can't," he proclaimed, a bit excited that his prophecy had turned true. "It was one of the most boring speeches ever made."

Hitchens also poked fun at Obama's recent address in Minneapolis in which it was officially announced that he was the presumptive Democratic nominee. Pronouncing Obama a "megalomaniac" who had the self-delusion to suggest that his primary victory would be looked back upon as the day water levels started to recede, Hitchens mockingly declared: "Just by gathering the delegate count he has arrested the climate crisis."

The only good thing Mr. Hitchens has ever done was the Trials of Henry Kissinger.
Tell me Mr. Hitchens, why did Clinton win by double digits in the counties where Bill Clinton campaigned for her? And why did the national media coverage of his famous angry outbursts NOT relate that success to the television viewers, preferring instead to spin Clinton's diatribes negatively?
Why is Vanity Fair publishing a mostly unsubstantiated hit piece on Clinton about his anonymously alleged sexual promiscuity AFTER being president and choosing to ignore almost entirely his philanthropic works which have helped save literally MILLIONS of people with AIDS?
Could it be that Vanity Fair was planning ahead in the event Clinton actually took the nomination?
Mr. Hitchens, it isn't very courageous to jump on the Clinton Bashing Bandwagon.
You know, Mr. Hitchens, when George Galloway mopped the floor with you in your famous Iraq War debate together, I too almost orgasmed in my trousers.

Barring the things he said about Obama because lets face it, Hitchens hates religion and he isn't wrong for hating it in politics. But What he said about Bill Clinton was spot on. Hitchens maybe a lot of things, but even the arrogant jerks hit the nail on the head from time to time. I love what he said about Bill.

What he agrees with the shrub about the war and clearly has too much time on his hands. He's an a$$hat and should shut his mouth> I'm no C.linton fan but he hasn't contributed 1/1000th to society.

Christopher Hitchens has his uses. Yeah he thinks the war is a good idea. But you know and I know that's stupid.

Where Hitchens is great, is his stance against religion in politics. He loves and praises Thomas Jefferson for creating Separation of Church and State. It's a vital issue. We need religion taken out of politics. These fundamentalist Baptists and Evangelicals with their stranglehold on American Politics is frightening. They act like they have a monopoly on it too.

Hitchens is just trying to make a buck like everyone else. The more "controversial" the comment, ... the more attention ... hence the more books get sold, the more columns read, etc.

It would be most effective if everyone would just yawn and ignore him.

Have another boilermaker Chris!

paul begalia, always clever, always funny, once said while on a show with hitchens, who was unshaven and blood shot at the time, and attacking clinton, that hitchens has been known to sit on a roadside with a cardboard sign that says, "will attack clinton for food."

I'm pretty sure everyone running for president has more than a touch of megalomania. The difference is that people like Obama - and Bill in his brighter moments - are able to use their inflated egos to influence positive change and help others. Megalomaniacs like Hitchens only know how to to help themselves by tearing everyone else down. Personally, I hope he continues on this track of insulting Obama and Bill in the same conversation, it will only help remind the democrats of what we have in common and why we need to work together.

Christopher Hitchens lives under the delusion that Great Britain and the U.S. are partners in the continued expansion of the British Empire. Or maybe it's not so delusional. But it certainly should not be reality.

As he, like myself, believes there is no all-powerful being controlling our destiny, he has substituted Exceptionalism for religious fanatacism, determining that the game is going to be played, so you may as well back the biggest bully on the block. Much of his bluster so obviously hides a deep-seated infuriority complex, he has to tear down anyone he believes doesn't deserve the power of persuasion because they weren't raised in an ivory tower. Clinton and Obama BOTH gall him. As orgasmic as he may be about Bill's exit, Obama's entrance onto the world stage has his panties in a knot.

Christopher Hitchens will have no one to mourn him when he passes. We should all feel pity for him.

Although I agree with Mr Hitchens about religion, I find him unable to really draw a respectful following because he lets his VULGAR....yes vulgar rantings get in the way of any intelligent dialogue. There always seems to be a dark side to genius. Whether they seek out women or offensive language or actions, I can not fine any true genius in history that doesn't have that dark side. I guess it is their way to show that they are human after all like the rest of us. TOO BAD.

Imagine what would happen if Bush and Cheney are impeached and Rove is sent to prison. Hitchens doesn't have the monopoly on orgasms.

Mr. Hitchens was right about Bill with his race baiting, but I can't help comparing him to Maureen Dowd, and her know it all elitist comments.

Hitchens calls it like he sees it. He was spot on (pardon the pun) when it comes to Clinton. His words are hard to swallow (there I go again) but he's just speaking the truth.

Hitchens is great. And everything he says here is true. Only a blind kool-aid drinking Clinton lover would deny that what Hitchens says here is the real deal.

loved him before he supported the Iraq war. speaks his mind. good thing for a journalist. they don't exist anymore. so what if you don't agree with him? no such thing as objective reporting anyway. putting two words on paper is an act of objectivity.
