I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Christopher Hitchens

The famously acid-tongued and brutally insightful Christopher Hitchens proclaimed himself near "orgasm" on Wednesday over the much maligned conduct and exit of Bill Clinton from presidential politics.

"The ex-president revealed to a crucial number of people something that many of us already knew: he is a raging psycho," said the Vanity Fair writer. "It's very gratifying to see more people catching up to that now."

Explaining that Sen. Clinton's loss was due in large part to her husband's behavior on the trail, Hitchens, a troublesome grin appearing on his face, concluded: "That pleases me more than I can say. In fact, I think I might orgasm in my trousers."

A controversial literary figure, Hitchens has long been a fierce critic of Clinton. He devoted an entire book to the former president's propensity to bend truths and tendency to use divisive racial politics. And during the current campaign he has chimed in, every now and then, with perverse pleasure over the poor-reviews Bill Clinton was receiving.

"He is completely out of control," he told the Hugh Hewitt show. "In other words, he has a lot of good friends who keep telling him, 'Bill, you must stop with this. You can't just ramble and rant on in this mad way like some tenth rate huckster instead of behaving like a former president and chief executive of the United States.' And he knows that they're right, but he can't not help himself. And it's the same with everything else."

Speaking at National Journal and Google's "21st Century Campaign" symposium, Hitchens said that he did not believe Bill Clinton was acting in a Schadenfreude attempt to undermine his wife's campaign -- an effort, of sorts, to remain the couple's most accomplished pol. "I don't think he subconsciously wanted her to lose because [her win] would mean that he was, in some way, back," he said. "Lackluster it wasn't. It was ugly, it was nasty."

And yet, lest one think Hitchens was an supporter of Barack Obama, he had some choice critiques for the Illinois Democrat as well. On the Senator's highly praised speech on race that he gave in Philadelphia during the crest of the Jeremiah Wright scandal, the Vanity Fair writer challenged members of the audience to recited a single line.

"You can't," he proclaimed, a bit excited that his prophecy had turned true. "It was one of the most boring speeches ever made."

Hitchens also poked fun at Obama's recent address in Minneapolis in which it was officially announced that he was the presumptive Democratic nominee. Pronouncing Obama a "megalomaniac" who had the self-delusion to suggest that his primary victory would be looked back upon as the day water levels started to recede, Hitchens mockingly declared: "Just by gathering the delegate count he has arrested the climate crisis."

The famously acid-tongued and brutally insightful Christopher Hitchens proclaimed himself near "orgasm" on Wednesday over the much maligned conduct and exit of Bill Clinton from presidential politics.

There's only room for one person to admire from Chris's POV - uh, that would be he, himself.

He bombed utterly on the war jargon and I was so disappointed because I thought he was more astute. I'm no Clinton lover, but I think Bill is more stable than Christopher H. And neither can hold a candle to Obama.

When it is happening in Christopher Hitchens pants, and he needs to tell everyone about it, yes.

Histchens is an insane man who occasionally glimpses the truth more completely than anyone else... in between his total hallucinations. Like a schitzophrenic who babbles and then says something more insightful than anyone around him.

Listening to him on Hewitt can be hilarious because the two have a love-fest of anti-lefty bashing then Hitchens suddenly falls into his rabid atheism which Hewitt tries to immediately distract him from (being a pretty solid religious conservative).

Hitchens is just jealous of Senator Obama, as is Joe Scarborogh, Tucker Carlson and Pat Buchanan, et al. - too bad.

The problem with Mr. Hitchens is he is subspecies oriented rather than species oriented. He clearly favors certain human groups over others and has no qualms if they disappeared off the face of the Earth. Of course at times he will have notions that many can agree with, but his solutions should not be part of anyone's portfolio. Even though many of us would disagree with many segments of the electorate there is still the attempt to find enough common ground to leave some living space. After all some of these people may be police persons, doctors, artists, your parent, sister or brother. They deserve rightful confrontation and resolution but not annihilation. This is what hate speech looks like when it comes out of the mouth from someone we might agree with. However, it should be equally odious whether it comes out of his mouth as well as from some bigot. The balance of human survival depends on it. With any collective development of such radicalization and enough blowback to launch a desire for revenge, criminal movements are formed. The corrupted use of our intellectual gifts can be humankind's worse enemy.

So he gets sexually turned on by another man going down? Are we sure he's not Larry Craig in disguise?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hitchens is a colorful and dreeply flawed character, but like him or not, he is entertaining, witty at times when he eschews vulgarity, is probably fun at a party, is right on the money with the Clintons (so that's where the Whitewater money went). He has had their number all along. Cheers Chris!! I admire his stance on atheism most. Like Nancy Reagen, you don't want to cultivate a friendship with him. If a movie were made on his life, a very dead Peter Ustinov would suit the bill rather nicely.

The thought of this rude, vulgar little William F. Buckley wannabe alone is enough to put me off my breakfast. The mental imagery conjured by this headline may put me off food for a week.

I agree. And furthermore, what kind of person carves out an identity by debasing others'? How pitiful.

Conservatives often base their entire identity on their ability to debase others.
They deal in negatives only---because their policies are depraved and unworkable.

Hitch is a bitter sot who has a very large ax to grind concerning the Clin-tons.

Hitchens is a polemicist and as such uses a specific style of argument. Many might find it offensive, but polemics is not for polite society. Don't think of what Hitchens does as "debasing", per se, but rather attacking and exposing "heroes" and "icons" to show that they are not worthy of the adoration that accrues to them. I struggled at first to accept Hitchens style and found it offensive but gradually came to see the value and necessity of such an approach.
