Daily Kos:

That's incredible. It's revolutionary. Much was said last week about "Obama keeping Dean at the DNC". That much was never in doubt. No nominee has ever booted a sitting chairman. It would reek of civil war. Even Clinton would've kept Dean. There really was no story there.

What is a story, however, is that Dean's 50 State Strategy and Obama's 50 State Campaign are now coming together in this fashion. Campaign offices in every single state? Obama's is the only campaign that promised this type of effort, and they're delivering.

Obama biting his lower lip says to me he knows he is WAY over his head. He has to be more than a preacher. He has to make decisions. That is the last thing he can do. He is too confused about who he is. He just wanted the bully pulpit and now look - he has to ask Michelle what to do.

I think the Democratic Party has been taken over by the religious left like the religious right took over the Republican Party in 2000 and gave us Bush. Religious ferver like this seems antithetical to democracy. Hopefully, the party will reject them as the Republican Party did - to save itself.

Nice if it works, but I think it's more a case of hoping to have collateral impact on other Dem candidates in red states, rather than Obama thinking he can run the table. As someone said on TV, 50 state strategy quickly become 26 state campaigns by July. Though I do agree that the electoral map is going to change this year.

Obama is about ALL Americans. A PRESENCE in all 50 states can reassure voters and doubters that he truly cares about them and want to hear first-hand what their concerns are, and give them an opportunity to have input in the process". His volunteers and other campaign staff have been invaluable here in my jurisdiction about educating us on where Obama stands on issues affecting quality of life (economy) security/safety, health care, education, housing, etc. etc. Everydoby do not have access to the internet to visit web sites to get information on the issues...

It is a great strategy. I get so tired of Democrats like the Clintons who think certain states will always stay red. I can understand focusing on the states you're strong in. As a strategy for winning, that makes sense. But it does nothing to bring about real change. If all you're doing is reinforcing the red state/blue state divide, then America will be static.

I fail to see how this is such a special strategy, didn't Ronald Reagan win 49 of the 50 states in the 80s? I don't see Obama doing that well.

I'm skeptical of this strategy and if Obama didn't have zillions of dollars to spend I'd say he better focus on swing states or he'll lose. But it does seem he has the luxury--the strategy is more useful for posterity than it will be for this election.

Considering that mini-me-mccain and the republican party are handing it to the democrats I think it's wise. Odds are, as bad as the economy is now, by November the few people who still have lawns will be burning da chimp in effigy.

I am sure that the division of assets will not be exactly even, that certain purple states will still get more of an effort than heavily red--Ohio vs. Utah. BUT to actually make an effort, to make better than a token effort in these states will be helpful. and even if he gets less than 50% in a state the extra popular vote will help him get more done in congress, and MIGHT help get some Senators, House Reps and state officials elected.

He is probably tired of all the nit picking the press is doing. I am sure he has to get frustrated. He now has had to let go of the person vetting his vp because the press are idiots and make a big deal out of every little thing that most of us would not even think anything of until they make a huge point of doing.

Very true! I just hope he gets the rest he needs to fight all these unnecessary battles

Obama could have a real shot at Alabama, and if Barr pulls enough Republicans to him Obama could also win Georgia. Florida will be tougher, but I think he'll do well there. Not enough to win the state, but enough to add to the mandate he has when he WINS this election.

The DNC has decided to treat residents of all 50 states like American citizens.

Revolutionary indeed.

Like someone said on here yesterday, it will be a "Barackslide" come November; it doesn't hurt that he's competing against the bumbling idiot bush lite. Well, as folks say, don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

One thing I am not in agreement with Kos about: Hillary Clinton would also have kept Howard Dean. Uh, uh.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:56 PM on 06/11/2008

Yeah, I have my doubts about that, too. Dr. Dean and the DLC (Hillary's power base) DO NOT get along.

Remember when Carville wanted to boot Dean 2 years ago becasue the 50 state strategy wasn't more successful?

The people that worked together at one of his offices during the primaries are still in contact and doing events waiting on the official general election office to open. We're having a "Voter Registration CookOut" on the 14th and still get together every other Thursday. So when Obama comes back he'll just have to point in what direction he wants us to go......
