Is it really necessary at his age.

Yeah... if you want to be President of the most powerful country in the world in the 21st Century where 99.9% of all communication takes place on the internet and the vast majority of information is stored there.

If you wanna run a bait and tackle store and do your books by hand, I guess it's not that important.

Uh..
My 87 year old grandmother has had a computer for about 10 years now. She surfs the web and uses her e-mail every day.

Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

He's probably just too dumb or too stubborn to learn anything new.

Is it necessary at his age?

Not to sit on the porch and wonder what is for lunch. However, for someone who wants to be the head of a country in the information age, YES, it is a necessity.

And why should anyone care?

Um. I care. Computers have been around for awhile. He should be able to understand some basics.

Why?

This week US Congressional computers were hacked from within China. Our primary form of communication, data storage and utilization are under attack by a hostile nation. It would comfort me to some degree to know that our president, when advised of these hi-tech attacks, has some idea of what it means.

That's why I care.

The real question here is why in God's name don't you care?

Seriously?

Let's imagine that you had a US President who could not speak, read, or write the English language. Everything that comes to this President must of necessity be filtered through another party. Another party selects the information sources, and controls what the President hears, and can add or remove data at will, if they like. And the President *will never know*, because he lacks the specific skills necessary to perform oversight on these tasks.

All Presidents have advisers who filter for them, but the President retains the ability to spot check, validate and question, etc. Now, like with Bush, they may not possess any curiosity whatsoever and may not use their ability to perform oversight, but he doesn't lack an insurmountable skill barrier that means that even if he was curious, he would be unable to do his own investigating.

That's why people should care.

I knew it! He probably listens to his transistor radio, and his eight track tapes. And this is the one that will have a finger on the button? What about if he thinks he is turning on the lights?
The old, confused man.

In fall's general debates the question should be "Senators: Do you believe that computer illiteracy is tantamount to illiteracy writ large?"

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:46 PM on 06/12/2008

I think computer illiteracy, especially for those in positions of power who need a broad understanding of the country and the world, it is very much tantamount to illiteracy. He is not competent to be our president. He cannot possibly understand the world and the way it works in this century unless Cindy is going to do that for him too.

I just hope everyone who posts here also goes to the voting booth on election day. After all, that's the one day all of our rambling nonsense actually matters. Keep that in mind. If you're not registered to vote, call your library and ask them how. There is no excuse anymore.

I'm sorry, Mr. McBush... In this day and age, if you do not know how to use a computer, even for the most basic tasks, you are a dinosaur.

UNBELIEVABLE!! This video was made during the early Republican primaries when Romney and Huckabee were still running. My question is this: How come MSM didn't jump on this? Protecting John McCain. If Barack so much as sneezes, they jump all over him! So sad.

If McCain say he is an Illiterate I would not be surprised. There is nothing he does or says that mkaes him look like somebody who visited the four walls of a school.
If he is just Computer illiterate, that would not be the first the world is hearing that from the Republicans. President Bush called the Internet..... the Internet(s).
They are just dolls and these are the people who would want to be the President of the self-acclaimed worl power USA.
Its a pity

That's great....just what we need, a president who in the event of a technological state of emergency would need to ask his wife for help...

And he's the one calling Obama "out of touch..."

Good thing he's got Meghan to help him with "the internets". Like people who used to have their 8 year olds program their VCRs.....

I hope someone plans to vet Megan, because the person who controls the President's electronic communication both going and coming actually *is* the President. And I'm pretty sure she's under 35.
