Wow. I know very few people close to his age that don't know how to use a computer but they are all women. Maybe he thinks computers equal 'clerical work' which equals 'women's work' and he thinks he's above that.

Mitt Romney flip flopped on the Mac PC question!!! LMAO. That is so classic Romney. "I was for PC's, before I was against them". You couldn't make this stuff up.

McCain Vows to Campaign in All Thirteen Colonies
Kicks Off Contest in Dominion of Virginia

Republican presidential nominee John McCain officially kicked off his general election campaign today, promising to bring his race for the White House to "all thirteen colonies."

At a campaign stop in the Dominion of Virginia, Sen. McCain said that if his Democratic opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, takes any of the thirteen colonies for granted, "he doth so at his peril."

Sen. McCain made his remarks in the Dominion of Virginia, which many McCain advisers concede will be a key colony in the fall election.

But in announcing his 13-colony strategy, Sen. McCain appeared to give notice that he intends to contest such traditional Democratic strongholds as the Province of Massachusetts Bay.

In the conclusion of his remarks, Sen. McCain vowed that his campaign would employ "the latest technology" to spread his message across the thirteen colonies.

"We will use the telegraph key, the carrier pigeon, and the pony," he said.

Hey McCain, you can't run the nation with sticks and stones anymore. Yes, fire, fire burns!

Another on the bright side: At least McCain seems to have some sense of cinema history, and he likes decent movies. Does that make up for his computer illiteracy?

I know i am supposed to genuflect, make the sign of the cross and chant some sacred cow nonesense about "We honor John McCain's service", before i get to say a discouraging word, but Yikes! This guy looks more and more like the guy who was ruling the spice trade on Dune.

Cindy keeps him informed about computer stuff. OK, so to elect him is to move from the Oil Companies owning us to the Beer companies owning us. And we are selling Busch to the Europeans as we speak. Brilliant.

My God! That explains it all. How full of misinformation, lies, conjecture, and half-truths I would be if I didn't know how to use a CPU? He says it himself; he's illiterate.

This is a basic fundamental skill in our day and age. Each generation has fundamental skills that are prerequisites to leadership. In Alexander the Great's age one needed to be a King or a tribal chief; one typically needed to be a land owner; to own slaves; to fight well with a sword.

To be a leader in President George Washington's age a person had to be able to ride a horse, own land; knowledge of fundamental military tactics; an average shot; and speak well in public.

To be an effective leader today you need to be media savvy; possess basic computing skills; and understand the interplay between politics and commerce.

Wow. This explains why McCain does so poorly in the under 45 demographic.

Bottom line: each generation has certain fundamental qualifications that must be met to be a great leader.

Golly gee willikers...do ya suppose that another thing that McCain has in common with Bush is that "lack of intellectual curiousity" that allows him to be fed only those opinions that his handlers want him to have?

Wonder if McCain even reads more than one newspaper, if any? And if so, do they offer differing viewpoints or are they mutually supporting? Certainly can't be bothered with computers and the 'net - all of those facts and opinions out there haven't been properly "vetted".

Another fine tool for the neocons...

This is just perfect! Like we really need another functional illiterate in the Whitehouse! Maybe he could get some pointers from that functionally illiterate Senator from Alaska Ted Stevens to show him how the intenets tubes and the googles work! My observation is he is already too senile to grasp even that part of it. WAIT.... maybe the Firefox's?? nnnaaahhhh

No one expects McCain to be ripping MP3s or coding for web pages, but like has been brought up, how the hell does he WRITE without a word processor??? What's left? Well, pen and ink, a typewriter, or a dicta-machine (which means he does not write). That's it. Does he even know how to type? One has to wonder.

And how can it not be extremely advantageous to use email for at least some communications with campaign staff???

And here's a killer: how can he be expected to have even an inkling about issues of copyright and the Internet if he does not even use a browser???

If someone lacks computer literacy today, then they lack ESSENTIAL BASIC LITERACY IN TODAY'S TERMS.

As the Op says, do we really want another half-literate president? I think not.

He should be able to use email comfortably, and conduct some level of investigation on the internet. It should at least be part of his arsenal of information and communication options, not something completely beyond him.

And not to forget that the White House uses e-mail ALL THE TIME. Think of the 'lost' ones of the present administration.

Good golly Miss Molly!!!! This is very disheartening - but it just reinforces my belief that our congressmen and especially senators are very removed from "our world" and are pampered and catered to. It's their culture -- we've created it and allowed it to remain. I feel this will be fuel for the Obama folks - just another reason they feel a "change is needed" - I guess they don't think he's been in congress long enough to be "exposed" but ..... who knows ....

He wasn't old when the computer first came into being. I guess he's just been living in his own private bubble for the last few DECADES!

I am not sure what all the fuss is about.
So what if he can't/doesn't use a computer?

Would you want a president to be sitting in front of a computer and be browsing?

One can criticize McCain for a number of things, but not about computer use.

Did you just say: I am an idiot?

I've never owned a cell phone, but I know how to use one. DUH!!

Browse all day? Who accused him of wanting to browse? You have an IQ Less Than Zero.

People like you are why the country was AM-Bushed.

Hey, we already have a President who didn't learn his English grammar and language lessons, either. It is not about whether he'd be sitting in the Oval Office surfing the 'Net, it's about being up to date with the 21st century, and not be an anachronism.

If he can browse he can fact check his subordinates.
