WASHINGTON -- Republicans are bracing for double-digit losses in the House and the prospect of four or five losses in the Senate, as they fight to hold a wide range of districts and states normally seen as safe for them, from Alaska and Colorado to Mississippi and North Carolina.

The feared setback for Republicans, coming two years after their 2006 drubbing, is unusual for several reasons. It is rare for a party to lose two election cycles in a row. And many expect losses even if their presidential candidate, John McCain, captures the White House.

Democrats already hold majorities in ...

Germany outlawed their national socialists (Nazis) after WW2. This is what happens to a party that hosts totalitarians, racists, and theobots. http://www.light-to-dark.com/darwins_twofer.html

i can't wait. watching the crowds in 01 I was reminded of the fall of Paris to the Germans in WWII. there was one guy in particular whom i will not forget, he was holding a sign and he was crying. the sooner these fracking corrupt trolls are gone the better for us all

I think we should fairly easily pick up ten seats. We'll have had an OK result if we get at least 6. If we get 9 or ten we'll have had a good result. Anything over 10, and we will have gotten our "landslide."

OK, I know this will sound very weird......but aren't the stars changed on the GOP elephant? They used to be standard, stars and stripes forever stars......they are looking very strange now.
JUST SAYIN' I'm gonna do a little research. THE GOP SUCKS and now I'm checking into every nuance!

I'm thinking they may, all of a sudden, find Osama Bin Laden; as if they don't know where he is already, and much too late to have any impact at all. But, I guarantee the fear mongering will be a big part of their campaign tactics, as usual.

Surely Karl Rove , as 'unofficial advisor' to the McCain campaign, has something up his sleeve.
A pretend 'terror attack' of some kind this summer perhaps?? That would do it.

What about a real one? They did that already - we know it as "September 11th, 2001."

It is their own fault if their party becomes irrelevant - they allow Bu$h to travel the world threatening to attack more countries while showing his total ineptness at helping the economy or winning the ILLEGAL war he already got us stuck in.

At least he didn't molest the German Chancellor this trip!

They need the rise of a third party that would bridge some of the issues of both parties without the tarnished image of the republicans.

The Democratic party has its issues also, but they usually revolve around big government and taxes, not war and big breaks for the rich.

I'd like to see government involved in an investigating the oil companies recent raping of the American consumer.

Just give us health care for ALL Americans, Investment in department of alternate energy technology and free college education for those who would like to attend. And stay the hell out of our lives in most other cases.

Seems like the republicans are the party of big government -the size of government has grown over 10 pecent under George W. Bush, and it also grew under Bush Sr, and Reagan, not to mention the fact that the above 3 presidents account for 70 percent of all of the debt that the US has incurred since its creation. The republicans are just good at creating a smoke screen by talking about how much they hate government while increasing the size of it.

Since you mentioned Reagan, Bush 41, and Bush 43, I find it interesting that those three have taken the MOST vacation time of any Presidents. Heck, Bush 43 has ALREADY taken more vacation time than Carter and Clinton -- combined...!

The presidential vacation-time record holder is the late Ronald Reagan, who tallied 436 days in his two terms. Bush Sr. took all or part of 543 vacation days at Camp David and in Kennebunkport.

In 2005, Bush dragged out his vacation in Texas to five weeks. I'm sure his supporters will give the usual lame excuse of "But, they are working vacations"; and to that I would say "Be serious". Even IF they were "working" vacations, how much time do you think he's actually working..10%?...20%...? And how could he be working for America, if he spends a lot of his "working vacation" time visiting cities for various Republican fund raisers (?).

In Aug. 2007, Bush had taken 418 vacation days, with 17 months to go in his presidency.

In Mar. 2008 - Bush Surpasses Reagan as the "Vacation President" (for 2 terms)

May 2008 - Mark Knoller, a CBS News correspondent who keeps a meticulous log of the president’s schedule, said Mr. Bush had spent some 437 days at Camp David and 406 others here at Crawford. That's more than 2 YEARS away from "the office"...!

Don't the Republican Presidents believe in working for America...? LOL

What - only four or five GOP losses in the Senate? I'm hoping for at least TEN GOP losses (Collins in ME., Sununu in N.H., Warner's open seat in VA., Dole in N.C., McConnell in KY., Coleman in MN., Allard's open seat in CO., Domenicic's open seat in N.M., Smith in OR., Stevens in AK.). Last I checked, they all were in play or great for the Dems (N.M., N.H. and VA).

If that happens, the BIGGEST LOSER on election night will be JOE LIEBERMAN, who no longer will be able to jerk around the Senate Dems with threats of "going over" to the GOP. Oh, such are the things of which dreams are made ....

I've no doubt he's hamstrung them quite a few times. Maybe now we'll be able to get things done although I do think that Pelosi and Reid need to go as leaders. We need people with balls or ovaries of steel to be tough leaders and start calling the Republicans on their filibuster b.s. which Reid doesn't do. He needs to call them on it when they threaten and make them stay around the clock when they threaten a veto. Democrats have done it (filibustered and stayed all night) but of course we're usually true to our word. Mark Warner is running against a Gilmore who's a tiny man both in stature and character so I think Mark will be a shoo in for the Senate. Virginia is turning more purple by the day although there are still idiots who think we can have it all for nothing.

Good riddens, Repubs! How can they call themselves Christians and believers of good family values when they're so scandalous, deceitful, and gung-ho for an unjust war("and more wars" as McCain put it)?
We don't want liars and cheaters in public office further destroying our chances of getting a piece of the American dream!!

McCain is living a comfortable life with 9 homes to prop his feet in with his millionaire trophy wife. I don't believe he's thinking of me when he's flip-flopping his stance on the issues. I'm just a divorced mom struggling to stay afloat in a terrible housing market having yet to purchase a home of my own.

Just a reminder, your fellow citizens put this criminal retard in the W/H twice (yes twice!!); and I can tell you right now full 40% of US voters will surely vote for McCain in November. What does it say about your fellow citizens?

Apologies for the waste of bandwidth beating this long-dead & now rotting horse-corpse, but...
The only "fellow citizens" who "put this criminal in the W/H" were a handful of hypocrites in black robes, a corrupt hack who cooked the books on a certain state's election returns, and all the perpetrators of a massive and of course completely fraudulent voter-disenfranchisement conspiracy from the Governor (who just happened to be the arch-criminal's brother) down to the lowliest statie intimidating would-be voters at the poll sites.
And of course all the whores and traitors in the "liberal" mass media; can't forget them.

They are backward-looking albeit totally ignorant of any history except fatuous apocrypha, e.g., Reagan was instrumental in the collapse of Soviet Communism. Most are unaffected by technical change--or even econ. change--but are willing to sacrifice the commonwealth to preserve their delusional vision of a U.S. society that never was--except out of the mouth of a cultural swengali like Ronald Reagan.....

Many cultures have embraced the need for educational, technical, and ideological change. Many in the U.S. still believe that their country somehow has permanently cornered the secret to eternal prosperity and DOMINANCE.....

WSJ probably wouldn't mind if we got overconfident, but oh man, the potential for this kind of victory is in the air. I'm helping to replace my GOP Congressman with a progressive Democrat this fall, and if you live in such a district, you are duty-bound as a patriot to do the same.

If we do get crushing victories, I don't think I can find any sympathy in me for them anywhere. It's not hate. We don't need to hate. It's just a firm and unshakable resolve.

What's with the inverted star mention? The highest honor that can be bestowed on an American, the Medal of Honor, is an inverted star.
