June 11, 2008 -- A hedge-fund manager due to begin a 20-year prison stint for a $450 million fraud abandoned his SUV on a Hudson River bridge with "Suicide is Painless" written in dust on the hood - but authorities strongly suspect he tried to fake his death.

"We're not searching [the river] because it's widely presumed that he didn't jump," said a police source about Samuel Israel III, who was being sought by the FBI and US Marshals yesterday.

There is no way the guy is dead. No way. It's not his M.O. This guy had a plan day one once he found out the Fed's were after them. You don't make hundreds of millions of dollars being stupid or lucky. You make because you are a controll freak and you must win at any cost. I doubt they will ever find him. His family is hiding him because only he knows where the money is hidden.

Why wasn't this guy taken into custody upon sentencing? A multimillionaire convicted thief - let's let him run free for a bit. Check the judge's accounts.

Pretty much what I thought yesterday when I first read this story.

If we ever run out of trolls here on HuffPo we'll know where to find 'em...they're sitting on the bench as judges. Mega-DUH. 8-/

Fort Devens is a minimum security prison that he's trying to escape from.

When I was stationed at Eglin, word was an attempted escape from that country club would land a prisoner in a maximum security prison, no questions asked. It was part of the incentive package to keep prisoners there.

It worked.

Also, that's an old looking 48 year old in that photo.

BTW, what's with this idiocy of them "thinking he bought a fake passport"?

Guys with that kind of money don't need to do that. Step 1: You charter a plane to Texas or Louisiana under a fake name (or if you're really careful, drive down there).

Step 2: You hop on a boat and motor your way to Belize (no extradition from there)

Step 3: You pay the government 50 grand for citizenship there, and then laugh in everybody's face.

You never have to even look at a border agent.

You mean there is actually someone on earth who believed he did commit suicide?

I'm kind of curious about what the hell a convicted felon with access to millions is doing running around loose in the first place. Everybody connected with THAT plan ought to have someone taking a real close look at them right now.

Really? They think that? What a surprise. Not that he ran. That was clear. The surprise is that it only took them a day to come up with the idea that he did not kill himself.

Here's another hint, Sherlock: the man did not drive his own car to the bridge. He payed someone to do it for him to make it look like he drove there and jumped. Got it?

Make this guy America's #1 Most Wanted Fugitive.

Then let Dog the Bounty Hunter know how much the reward is.
It will be fun tracking his greedy ass down and seeing him get caught by a guy with a mullet..
