NY Post:

In next month's Playboy, Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," says: "A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma, without a doubt. Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that's a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood - maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect." Cruise's lawyer, Bert Fields, told us: "This unqualified television performer who is obviously just looking for notoriety is so grotesquely unprofessional as to pretend to diagnose Tom and others without ever meeting them. He seems to be spewing the absurdity that all Scientologists are mentally ill. The last time we heard garbage like this was from Joseph Goebbels."

How do you think he got to be Dr Drew? By impressing a lot of uneducated ppl
who can't read and by saying "ppl in the public eye who behave strangely have
mental illness we can learn from"...like Dr Drew who got to be in the public eye
by attracting attention and by manipulating ppl. This is what he does as a
profession. How do you think a guy like him gets an article in Playboy?
Say something off the wall about someone famous and take your chances.
Maybe you can get away with an apology and maybe you can talk your way
out, maybe people you know can intervene and clean up your mess just
like crazy ppl, male and female, do everyday and get away with it.

Scientology goes up against the right ppl, Big Pharma and psycho therapists
it's just that if Scibots ever started to be seen as sane they would lose the tax exemption
because no one would believe they were a religion. Why do you think they
do it? Their founder modeled the whole thing on the Mormons.
If they can get away with why can't I.

Scientology? Mormonism? Catholicism? Evangelicals? The 23% that support Bush? Progress for the New American Century? Cults?

Dr. Drew merely used Tom as an example, you know, sort of like Tom used Brooke Shields as an example. Funny how he doesn't like it.

Um. Are you able to recall a time when you felt the same or similar neglect?

Except that Tom and Brooke knew each other. Tom got carried
away but made good points using the wrong kind of depression
and his friend as an example. Big Pharma won that round
but they seem to be losing in court every time you turn around.
They don't have to worry because the evidence always gets sealed.
Patents run out but they just replace the old drugs with new names
because they know they have a hooked population.

I like it when two institutions go at it as in Scientology vs Pharmacology.
They are both religions, both get tax exemptons, both do good but also
much harm, both have fanatical followers but i give the edge to Pharma
in the financial dept because they have many more contributers
and they get to advertise on TV.

Psychiatry should be banned for the countless human rights abuses it's caused and causes today. Just think of how many children are on psycho-tropic drugs today. Does anyone really think that psychiatry has any intention of bringing those numbers down? Does anyone really think that giving children powerful and addictive drugs that would be illegal on the street, will make these kids healthy and sane?

Pinsky is a perfect example of what these quack "doctors" do. They quickly label you as mentally ill, then tell you that you're in need of a lifetime of therapy and drugs. Of course if that doesn't work they always have their trusted ECT machine or ice-pick for a quick lobotomy.

You do not "clear a "thetan". Dumbo. The Thetan is a word used to describe the soul. It means that no matter what your body goes through lifetime after lifetime, one thing is constant ( besides change), and that is who you are. That "who" of 'who you are' in scientology means a 'thetan' in Scientology. Get your facts straight next time.

Good point Think4Yourself2. The infamous Harvard Psychiatrist Dr. Joe Biederman and crew
just got exposed for taking very large undeclared payoff's from drug companies in exchange for recommending powerful anti-psych drugs for children everywhere.
Start them young w/o knowing long term effects and knowing kids can be counted
on as life long customers as adults. The fortunate ones will out grow Big Pharma.

No, I am not a Scibot but I'm glad they nailed Pinksky and I'm glad that Congress nailed Biederman.

Tom isn't crazy he just stopped taking his meds.

He did so because the cult he is in told him he was cured of his mental illness because the thetans that had attached them selves to him have been audited away and he has spent enough money to reach enlightenment.

Hey Doc. he’s not crazy just brainwashed.

the fact that referred to someone as a wog means you are way to deep into that stuff and need to take a break. Don't be afraid to try new things in life. Maybe getting away from scientology might be good for you.

Tom is a whole lot more intelligent/saner than you and Pinsky put together.
Scientology modeled themselves on the Mormons. Hubbard figured if the
Mormons could get away with a tax exemption so could he. The Mormon
God hangs out on the planet Kolob and they believe that if they maintain
strong hair roots they can pick up messages from God across the vast
oceans of space. Pinsky is getting his revelation the only way he
understands, in court.

Dr. Drew thinks EVERYTHING is caused by childhood abuse. Psychiatry is just the modern witchcraft/religion. Scientology is theosophical bunk

O.K. Everybody's wrong here. Dr. Drew shouldn't diagnose strangers. (Although, I found his reflections very interesting.) Tom Cruise's lawyer shouldn't compare strangers to Nazis. Tom Cruise shouldn't speak in public.

Why can't he speak in public? He rarely goes out anyway. When he does, he knows the places to be photographed and be heard in print. Are you making socialist restrictions? Try harder.

And he'd be right.

The cult religions fill their ranks by actively proselytizing among unhappy, unloved adults. And there are plenty of them out there. I've taken 5 teens into my home that were tossed out of their own by their parents. These kids lived with us for months at a time. We were never sorry - every one of them was a good and loving person who just needed someone to care about them. it's a crime. Some people simply aren't qualified to be parents.

I don't understand. Are you taking in "cult" children to bring Christianity to them, or are you simply helping out teens raised in cult families - with no strings attached?

Tom proves that there is big money to be made off people who can't be bothered getting an education that they are smarter than people who did.

Watch the you tube video of his address to the scientology forum and tell me this guy is not batshit crazy.

An evil alien dumped frozen alien bodies in volcanoes on this planet and the lost souls are the cause of all our problems? Oh, and it all happened many billions of years before the universe ever came into being? Oh, and the only way to get "clear" is to pay a bunch of nuts large sums of cash?
Oh, and if you "know" you are the only people that can help someone who was in a car accident and you can't enjoy a vacation?

Watch it I tell you, watch it! It will open your eyes!

Whereas people who believe in virgin birth, a guy in the sky watching everything we do and a man in Rome who wears dresses and hates women while worshiping Hitler are totally sane.
Anyone who believes in any form of religion is insane.
We don't need it and it is childish to think we do.

I think we can be a little kinder than that. Can't we all acknowledge that these people have been brainwashed? Usually from a very young age. The churches all know they have to get their hooks into them early -- and that they can't let go. So they have "youth groups" and "clubs" and scores of youth-oriented social events within the church. And the parents tell them "you can't marry outside your faith."

When I run across someone in this position - I always have just one piece of advice for them ...

"Your parents were able to choose for themselves - they DON'T get to tell YOU what to do and what to believe. Remember that you will be able to choose for yourself too."

"He seems to be spewing the absurdity that all Scientologists are mentally ill. "

NO, that's not what Dr. Drew said. He said that Sci is a cult -- IT IS!!!
He further said that many people who are attracted to a cult-like environment have a history of a troubled childhood - possible abuse - mostly neglect.
