I broke down and sobbed when I learned that Tim Russert had died.
That said, I was more than a little taken aback when Brian Williams, broadcasting from Bagram Air Force base in Afghanistan, devoted the entire NBC newscast to a memorial to Tim (including some rather odd remarks from Sally Quinn). This on a day when the New York Times was reporting that "Taliban militants staged a brazen bomb and rocket attack on the main prison in southern Afghanistan, helping hundreds of suspected insurgents flee."
Forgive me, Brian Williams: But how could you pass on this story under your own very nose. Your reporting of nothing but the death of the great Tim Russert turned his legacy in on himself. The one thing I can say with certainty is that Tim Russert would never have engaged in this kind of navel gazing if a real story was unfolding. Get it together NBC news... and my prayers to Tim's family.
Tim, you are a class act in a world of few. You will be sorely missed.
If it had to happen, how lovely that he had just returned from a trip with his family, celebrating his son's graduation. They were fortunate to have had that special time with him.
A very sad day. I pray for Tim Russert's family and friends.
MY SUNDAY MORNINGS WON'T BE THE SAME I TRUSTED HIS HONESTY . GOD BLESS TIM 'S FAMILY AND MY HEART GOES OUT TO THEM
I'm just in tears. Barbara Walters is articulating my sentiments perfectly. Tim's death is shocking. My Sunday mornings will never be the same.
My prayers go to the NBC family, Tim's family, the nation.
RIP Tim
You will be missed Tim. God Bless you and your family.
There was a genuine quality about Russert, an enthusiasm that was utterly uncontrived. Seeing his colleagues quaver and well in their tributes and recollections is painfully poignant. Sad sad sad...
