NBC's Tim Russert has died at the age of 58.

The AP reports that the cause of Tim Russert's death is not yet known:

The cause of death was not immediately clear. The network said on its Web site that Russert died of a heart attack, but Michael A. Newman, Russert's internist, later said that resuscitation was begun immediately and continued at Sibley Memorial Hospital, to no avail. An autopsy was pending, Newman said.

Watch Tom Brokaw report:

Russert collapsed Friday afternoon in NBC's Washington bureau.

Russert was in the tracking booth, recording a track, when he collapsed. He returned from Italy Thursday night. His wife, Maureen Orth, and son Luke, are still in Italy.

TVNewser reminds us that "Around 1pmET this afternoon, Russert was conducting a political Q&A on MSNBC.com."

TMZ reports on the details of Tim Russert's death:

DC Fire tells us the call came in at 1:41 PM ET. We're told they transported one adult male patient in cardiac arrest to Sibley Hospital where he died.

It is a fine thing we are coming together as a people, unfortunately it is to praise and express our heart felt grief about the death of a man. Not a hero or world leader, just a man living amongst us doing his job, loving his family and not to macho to talk about it. God Bless Tim and his family.

First off, God Bless Tim and his family. Tim certainly had a tremendous wealth of knowledge about politics. At times, Tim would get me upset with his lack of REAL questioning, especially when Bu$h and Cheney were his guests, but overall Tim was a fixture on Sunday morning with Meet the Press and was very professional. He will definitely be missed, especially in a political year like this. Tim also was a great family man, as he learned that quality from his father and passed it on to his own son. It is a great example to men like me, who still have their fathers around and also have growing sons.

There are very few people who with their passing, stirs something inside beyond logic and comprehension. Tim is one of those people. I am feeling so sad, so forlorn for this very honorable man. A man who I did not know but yet something in his presence highlights the best in humanity and via a television screen, was able to impart that to his audience.

It is weird, selfish and silly perhaps, but I am somewhat mad at him for not seeing this election through to its end... he looked out for us, the regular folks. The truth was so important to him and now, Dear Tim... who is there for us?

Death is but a transformation of energy from one state to another.... I know you are still with us.

So hard to believe that Tim is really gone, I have so often disagreed with TV Journalist and vowed to never watch them again, however that has never even been the case with Tim. Even if I didn't agree with him or his methods, his demeanor was so subtle until I would often compromise and agree to disagree. It is so rare to find someone willing to get to the truth and not worry about ratings.
Years ago someone told me that "tact" was when you told someone to go to hell and made them look forward to the trip, Mr. Russert, you were one tactful man, and will surely be missed.

This Sunday (Father's Day) Tim "YOU "will be the one interviewed on Meet the Press, the press will tell your life story, your friends and collegues will remember your life fondly, your family will seek fortitude, while many of your fans continue to absorb the shock of your untimely demise. There is no doubt in my mind that when the interview is over and the final curtain has dropped, the interviewer
(your Saviour) will say unto you; "Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord."

GODSPEED, Mr. Russert

Part II- So many out there we don't agree with, but work to better our country. When they are gone we must appreciate them. There is a short list of politicians that we will not grieve for when they leave. We all know whom I am referring too! Sorry for the rambling, but I am just trying to capture how I feel at this moment. I cannot fathom why the people doing good for the country must leave and those destroying us continue to stay making money off of all the good? Tim, we will take back this country and make you proud. RIP. You were a man of men.

Part I- I am not a god man whatsoever. Religion is corrupt. However, I believe in a higher being. Anyway,
Tim was here as an Angel. The good ones always go early. He was a good man with great intentions. Called it the way he saw it, when most in the MSM have an agenda. Almost all of the comments a true to Tim and how he lived his life along with how he has impacted us. We only now come to terms with the fact that he was good man for our interest. A true testament to his character is that he was able to get under all of our skin no matter what side of the aisle we sat on. Not a dime a dozen by all means. Tim rest your soul and root for us. For some reason the good ones always leave the stage early while the corrupt ones stay in power and don't deserve the lives that they have. This is test for us. We must recognize people for what they are and take immediate action against those that don't have our interests the world's interests in mind.

I first have to say this - Walter, I miss you and I will always love you and I promise to make sure your son, Matthew, will always fight for those who can't .

RIP Walter III and Tim.

I will miss you Tim Russert. Although I sometimes felt that you were too right leaning and too
soft with some of your Republican guests, you still had this lovable decency about you that made
me like you no matter what. Rest in peace Timmy. What a really sad and difficult time this is going
to be for your loved ones, friends and colleagues and loyal viewers of your show. Sunday mornings
will NEVER be the same.

This is very sad news.
I hope people will take this time to evaluate their own health, diet, amount of exercise and how much stress is being put on their daily lives. Slow down and take care of yourselves.

It is obvious this is a man beloved by his family and friends and spent a lifetime trying in his way to tease out the human aspects of those he was interviewing. On many occasions he brought this to a point that was more heat producing than enlightening but it was always clear he worked hard and diligently to produce his brand of interviewing. It would even offend Mr. Russert, probably himself, to push his efforts beyond something super human. The American value of hard work is at work here and deserves accolades and certainly leaves a model to build on. We must not embarrass his memory by leaving a sense as the song says "Is that all there is?" Mr. Russert's legacy should be that we can and must hope for more. Those whose obituaries are out of the limelight also weave their part of what we must accomplish together. It can not end here. Rest in peace Tim Russert, you did good, and condolences to his family.

I just woke up from a short restless sleep. For some reason I reached for my laptop picked it up and clicked on HuffPo. In my half awake and half asleep state I saw Tim Russert had died an I thought it was just a bad dream. I've never felt shocked by the same event.

A great man has passed.

And now, "Who will watch the watchers?"

Let's see that network man up and do justice to the man that graced their airwaves.

headline from hereidreport "Born and raised in Buffalo N.Y. Tim Russert was a real Democrat in every sence of the word. He was from the JFK Era, and new what it really meant to be a Democrat and that showed in his fairness when interviewing his weekly guests, He will be missed."
