Michael Moore To Publish Election Guide

NEW YORK — Take cover, McCain. You too, Obama. Michael Moore is coming out with a new book.

The tome, titled "Mike's Election Guide," a manual of mockery for the 2008 presidential election, will be published Aug. 19 by Grand Central Publishing, Jimmy Franco, a spokesman for the publisher, said Friday.

Promotional material for the book reads: "Perfectly timed to coincide with the national political conventions __ and to capitalize on massive campaign coverage."

Moore, 54, won an Academy Award for best documentary with his 2002 gun-control film "Bowling for Columbine," and famously lashed out at President Bush in his acceptance speech. Ahead of 2004's election, the director-activist released "Fahrenheit 9/11," his top-grossing film damning the war in Iraq.

Moore's previous book _ 2003's "Dude, Where's My Country?" _ sold more than a million copies.

I wish Mike would go back to doing TV. I think that's the best format for him. I'm not sure I want to see through another 90 minute diatribe, even when I agree with it. But the 5-10 minute segments on The Awful Truth were awesome and really got their point across while staying funny and entertaining. I think that when one has too make their point in 10 minutes, it really forces one to trim the fat (no pun intended!) Plus, at this point, Mike is just preaching to the converted. If he were on TV, he'd be able to catch unsuspecting channel surfers and just might win over a few new hearts and minds. Finally, I think he should avoid dealing with politics, and stick to issues, like healthcare, guns, corporate crime, etc. I think he's more successful when he takes on topics, rather than politicians.
