Obama Clinton

This week Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain are fighting hard to win support from independents and uncommitted supporters of Hillary Clinton. At a Philadelphia fundraiser, Obama shared with voters the same sentiment he shared with Clinton during their much-touted (and still quite secretive) private meeting. Obama told Hillary:

"You're the only one who knows what I've gone through and I'm the only one who knows what you've gone through."

And while many Clinton supporters and surrogates have fallen in with the Obama camp since the end of the primary, a few public defectors are making waves. The McCain camp has proudly touted one Wisconsin Democratic superdelegate who has promised to vote against Barack Obama:

In an interview, Bartoshevich expressed lingering unhappiness over the Democratic nominating process, said Clinton was treated unfairly by the party and said she has deep reservations about Obama's lack of experience and his judgment.

"I'm kind of disenfranchised," she said.

She said she planned to vote for Clinton at the convention, but in an Obama-McCain matchup in November, "I will not be voting for Obama. I will cast my vote for John McCain.

Still, to this point, Bartoshevich is the only superdelegate that both sides acknowledge has flipped sides.

Meanwhile, McCain's camp is pushing to the press a Clinton-oriented virtual town hall, as well as a list of "prominent Democratic and unaffiliated leaders" who have joined Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-CT) in a group called 'Citizens For McCain.' In 2000, Bush had great success with a similar organization: Democrats For Bush. Of course, Ben Smith notices that the members of Citizens of McCain come up short in one respect:

What they could use: a bit more prominence. Beyond Lieberman, most are out-of-office local officials; only one, former Rep. Tim Penny of Minnesota, ever held federal office. Some are quite obscure, to wit: Commander of Newport Memorial-VFW Post 1119 Francis Harding Jr. and former State Chair of Environmentalists for Clinton-Gore 1992 Roberta Weisbrod.

And Obama is having his own luck tempting crossover voters, particularly with black conservatives. The Associated Press runs through some of the most prominent officials who are publicly wavering between McCain and Obama, including former Secretary of State Colin Powell and former Oklahoma Rep. J.C. Watts:

J.C. Watts, a former Oklahoma congressman who once was part of the GOP House leadership, said he's thinking of voting for Obama. Watts said he's still a Republican, but he criticizes his party for neglecting the black community. Black Republicans, he said, have to concede that while they might not agree with Democrats on issues, at least that party reaches out to them.

"And Obama highlights that even more," Watts said, adding that he expects Obama to take on issues such as poverty and urban policy. "Republicans often seem indifferent to those things."

Tim Penny left the Democratic Party years ago and joined the Independence Party (Jesse Ventura's party) He evenr an for Governor with that party's endorsement. In short, I would not call him a prominent Democrat. Period

Also, the article lists Joe Lieberman as D-CT. He stopped being a "D" right around Jan. 20, 2001.

Ok, I am going off subject. My apologies for poor blog manners. If you don't like it then don't reply or say something so repulsive they have to scrub my post as well. Ok here goes:

What do you think BHO's acceptance song will be at the convention? I think it will be something rad but am clueless? Any ideas out there. Remember Ker ry's in 04, Higher and Higher by Van Halen? I remember the malfunctioning balloons the most, the station I was watching had the producer yelling "Go balloons, balloons, where are the f*****g balloons? JC can we get some GD balloons?" I knew it was a bad omen, but I still died with laughter nonetheless.

Heres to good music and working balloons.

Here's a cut-and-paste from the linked main article http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=7620522)

' “No self-respecting woman should wish or work for the success of a party that ignores her — that’s by Susan B. Anthony,” said Bartoshevich, referring to the suffragist. '

And so then Bartoshevich goes and votes Republican!!! HAHAHAHA

But with that quote, she did show her hand: issues be damned (ironically, some of those issues are for women's rights). She is just pissed that the woman didn't win. Bartoshevich:

1) The choice must reflect the majority in a democracy and Obama did get the majority. If you oppose that, move to a dictatorship
2) People voting for Obama didn't do it because they hate women. Woman-haters tend to support your favorate: McCain.

About the only thing that can be said about Democrats like Bartoshevich who believe that McCain has superior judgment and experience to Obama is "Wow!" She''ll get what she deserves with a McCain Presidency. That includes the following:
1. No end to the military occupation in Iraq and the likelihood of military action against Iran and others.
2. Continued Republican drip-down economics and redistribution of wealth upward through tax breaks, economic deregulation, and support of a military-industrial complex which favors the wealthy.
3. No progress towards universal health care despite the fact that American pay twice as much of our gross domestic product for health services than any other western country as has the worst coverage.
4. The high likelihood of a Hooverian response to the worse economic crisis facing our country since the Great Depression.
5. A Supreme Court that will roll back Roe v. Wade and erode civil liberties and protections by broadening federal police powers under the Patriot Act.
6. An energy policy that's only apparent vision includes more domestic oil drilling and licensing of nuclear power plants.

If Democrats, or any citizen for that matter, supports a future Administration with an agenda of that listed above, by all means vote for McCain. Otherwise, the choice for Obama is clear.

Nothing would rally the vitriol of the Republicans AGAINST Obama more than to place Hillary Clinton on his ticket as VP. Even Obama and the DNC knows this. If bitter HRC voters won't vote for Obama, then so be it. Besides, if Obama brings Clinton on his ticket to win over embittered Clinton supporters, he would lose many of his supporters. So why would Obama risk doing that? He's trying to gain more supporters...newly registered voters, the undecided and moderate Republicans...not push them away.

Can anyone please explain to me how you can be 'kind of disenfranchised'? You either are, or you are not. I am feeling this person is not really committed to her position and is looking for attention, which she has received. 'Kind of disenfranchised'? What on earth could that mean? No matter how hard people try to convince me otherwise, I am certain that there are few Pro-McCain voters. The media long presaged irreconcilable differences in the Democratic Party following the defeat of Hillary Clinton's historic campaign. Yet it has become evident that the fault lines that persist for the right wing are much deeper and farther reaching. Many see the Libertarian Party as a viable option, while a growing number of evangelicals realize that Obama's personal and family life are much more representative of the important conventional American values they have long cherished.

If everyone were to be truly honest, Obama is in a campaign against himself more so than with John McCain. He has obviously built a strong coalition that believes in his candidacy. His major task now is to diminish the Anti-Obama vote while rapidly warding off the ruthless and deceptive smear tactics of the GOP. In all, if Americans vote on the pressing issues of today, Obama has this election in the bag! McCain cannot beat Obama on the issues and he knows it. His only chance is to sway the opinions of honest Americans with rumors, lies, and innuendo.

McCain AND the GOP know that they don't have anything on Obama but the smears...it's quite pathetic really.
But going back to your remark about him against himself...it's more like him against EVERYONE and now is his time to prove himself and I honestly believe he is more than up to the task - he is ready for anything.

I have a feeling that the only reason McCain is looking OK as of now is because of the MSM.

If you think of it before the PA contest most pundits knew for a fact that Hillary had no chance of catching up to Obama and winning without the Supers overridding the will of the voters. So the MSM called her the comeback kid and gave her false hope.

Even after she won PA Chuck Todd basically said it was a nice win but it wont change the fact but the MSM kept on pumping her up so that they can have 24 news coverage of the contested primary. Then at the end when the contests were over and Obama had the numbers to win they finally ended it.

Now McCain is up and there is like 5 months until the GE. So if Obama is kicking ass and taking names then the news ratings will go down. So the MSM pumps up John McCain so they can have 5 months worth of ratings.

Why should it be any different for Obama than what it was for Hillary.
That's the way Hillary lost. Now, overcome the same treatment. That's not what Obama has to overcome. He needs to overcome his inexperience, his lack of knowledge on foreign policy, and his lack of understanding of main stream American. Don't blame the repugs. They are doing what they do best. Looking out for number 1 at the expense of everyone else. Kind of like the DNC, media, and Obama's camp and the way they treated Hillary.

If Obama really wants to pull the party together get Hillary on as VP. Then at least we know we will stand a chance of being heard and helped.

You have apparently bought into Mrs. Hillary Clinton's BS about experience and hiring a manager, and you don't know how the govt works.

The President is the Chairman of the Board (promotes large sweeping ideas for the business.) NOT the CEO (implements the Chairman's ideas.)

You think FDR helped on D-Day? You think when JFK said his goal was to "send a man to the moon and return him safely to earth in 10 years" he new how to do it?

It's really laughable, this astounding ignorance on the "experience" issue.

You hire the best people you can find, who are in synch with your ideals and values. They're called Cabinet Secretaries and Advisors. You think Bush knew how to invade Iraq.?He hired a bunch of Fascists to implement his idea.

I voted for Jesse Jackson twice. There are few people with LESS experience on many issues then him. But his ideas, foreign and domestic, are right in tune with mine, and he would get the best people to make it happen.

So stop complaining about Obama. You don't like him because your girl lost. It's as simple as that.

Anyone who supported Clinton and now supports McCain is only insinuating that Clinton was closer to John McCain than Barack Obama, politically speaking. I think that is incorrect, but it is the impression that is left, and makes Democrats of all stripes sigh in relief that Clinton was not the nominee. Who wants McCain-lite as the Democratic nominee?

It is hypocrisy, plain and simple. If those individuals who have extolled the virtues of Clinton break and run to the McCain campaign, they do themselves and their constituents a great disservice for abandoning their ideals and principles. Albeit, Obama may not be the perfect substitute for the standard bearer they sought but at least he exemplifies the core of the Democratic Party’s ideals.
McCain on the other hand has lost the respect of this American when he retreated from the one battle that mattered most – the interests of the American people before personal ambition. He demonstrated this with his agility and propensity to modify and change his positions in order to broaden his appeal to the conservative far right. Furthermore, when he dismantled the very framework that embodied his character, he left behind a Potemkin façade held in place only by perception.
