Paul was the Libertarian nominee in 1988, and many of his supporters are libertarian-minded on economic and social issues. Just before formally ending his presidential bid Thursday night, the Texas congressman praised Barr, and in a statement yesterday, Barr reciprocated.

I don't know Barr, but if he's from Georgia, I'd be worried. Ron Paul on the other hand, is a pretty good guy. And BRAVE. You could have heard a pin drop when he said he was against the war and the rest of the neonazis were dumbfounded. Brave indeed. And good. And yes, he will pull votes away from John McLiar- double good.

I like him too. I don't agree with many of his political positions but there's no denying his courage.

I like Ron Paul. I even sent him money. But I'm a lefty and Barr is a deal breaker for me. I'm with Obama now, backing a winner for once. Obama doesn't need the Libertarians but more power to them anyway. I want to see the Republicans pounded into the dirt.

If they pull enough votes, maybe the true conservatives in the republican party will re-emerge and take the party back. Remember, true conservatives do not increase the size of government by 1/3, suspend habeus corpus, deny the posse comitatus act, enter into foreign entanglements, bankrupt the country, pry into your private life, or abrogate civil liberties. True conservatives are fiscally penurious and socially liberal. You want our country to return to the land of opportunity and freedom? Vote Libertarian

As a Reagan Democrat, may I say that I have no problem with the old fashioned conservative ideology. In theory, it sounds pretty good. There are some specific instances where I might argue over what it means in practice, as, for instance, whether social security is good or bad. I happen to think the SSA is great for most people.
Neo-cons have nothing to do with "true conservatives". In my opinion, both Reagan and Goldwater would be shocked and horrified at what the neo-cons have done to America and the GOP.
I maintain that there is not a whole lot of difference, except in how specific issues are individually interpreted, between liberals and conservatives. Neo-cons, on the other hand, disgust me.

Good. I think Dr. Paul knows what he's doing. He doesn't like McBush either.

Seems like Ron Paul is much more specific and aggressive than Obama on getting us out of Iraq. Obama is "cautions, careful, nonprecipitous evaluation". Ron Paul is clear - get out. Barr is clear get out.

Those who quickly bash Paul or Barr are simply water carriers for the big 2 trying to keep the debate from specific actions. You can also tell the big 2 protectors quickly attack the persons, instead of addressing the specific issues. From most of the comments, it is clear the persons have never read Paul's information nor Bob Barr's. Read first, you will instead be asking why the big two can not specifically address the points.

This can only help Obama. Both Barr and Paul are violently social conservatives. (anti-choice, defense of marriage, Barr ran the Lewinsky impeachment of Bill Clinton)

And their names have that perfect design symmetry of equal numbers of letters:

R O N P A U L
B O B B A R R
2 0 0 8

Kind of elegant, actually. (until they start to govern)

Good point. Ron Paul has one O. Bob Barr has one O.
Now that you mention it, Barack Obama has one O?
His name was Bama, but to join the group, he changed it to Obama
I see more of the conspiracy. Hillary Clinton has one O
She was already in the group as Hillary Rodham
Even worse, John McCain has one O.
George Bush, has only one O.
Bill Clinton has only one O
Ronald Regan had only one O.
Jimmy Carter - well that explains even more?

Now all of American can see the conspiracy of the O's.
We must make all of America aware:
Bob Barr is not an alternative, he is another O.

Great!!! Bring it on.

Already the GOP has given up on down-ticket elections this year. The GOP voters are expected to stay home in droves this year, and now those that do come out will be split between the Libertarian and the GOP tickets.

It would be sweet if the Libertarians beat the GOP this year and finish them off with one swift overwhelming election. Serve 'em right.

Of course, this just adds one more bit of evidence that Obama will sweep the election.

The two of them together will "take away" about 15 votes.
There aren't very many of them and they wouldn't vote for Mick Cane anyway.

Don't be so sure of that ... Ron Paul was pulling in a lot of votes and raising lots of money on line. I would not dismiss these two if I were the Republican candidate.

I guarantee you there'll be enough votes pulled to matter if they go together on this. I disagree with their politics, but the only people who matched Obama's team in devotion was Paul's team. It means something.
I hope they do well, and not just because it'll hurt McCain.

Good we could really use a Ross Perot to help make sure we don't get McBush.

The conditions are coalescing for a replay of 1992. Unlike Bubba, O doesn't really need third-party drama to win, but it's just so fascinating to watch it play out.

As long as they get on the ballot in NC, Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Louisiana. Watch John "Let me run the economy despite owing $ 200,000 in credit card debt" McCain sweat bullets now.

Yes they can!

They're already on those ballots and Bar will play a role in all of those states!

As a longtime Ron Paul fan (I'm voting Barack), I can tell you that Ron don't need your money. He still has LOTS of it. Ron and Barack both seem to have a knack for being thrifty and making every penny count. Now wouldn't that be a novel government notion!?!:) Senator (soon to be POTUS) Obama would do well to put this seasoned veteran of the Constitution to work in his administration. Treasury Secretary sounds about right. I would pay good money to see Paul abolish the Fed and give Berbrakethebanke his walking papers. (But then again, JFK tried that and you see where that got him).

Now that's a ticket that will scare conservatives but draw moderates and independents. I hope they do work together to defeat McCain. Will make it easier for Obama to win.
