New York Times:

American and international investigators say that they have found the electronic blueprints for an advanced nuclear weapon on computers that belonged to the nuclear smuggling network run by Abdul Qadeer Khan, the rogue Pakistani nuclear scientist, but that they have not been able to determine whether they were sold to Iran or the smuggling ring's other customers.

The plans appear to closely resemble a nuclear weapon that was built by Pakistan and first tested exactly a decade ago. But when confronted with the design by officials of the International Atomic Energy Agency last year, Pakistani officials insisted that Dr. Khan, who has been lobbying in recent months to be released from the loose house arrest that he has been under since 2004, did not have access to Pakistan's weapons designs.

Oooooh, stealth and deception, do I see a movie, here? Abdul Qadeer Khan, the rogue Pakistani nuclear scientist, dark, handsome, like a young Omar Sharif. The thing that concerns me, though, is knowing that American Investigators couldn't find their own feet if they were standing on them. This is just more bullshit, propaganda to make us all believe that we're being kept safe from being attacked by blueprint wielding terrorists. Hey, where's Bin Ladin? I think he's hiding under Bush's bed.

Over the past two years, on three different occasions, brief cases full of id's and social security numbers, stolen... never recovered.

Fuses to warheads 'accidently' shipped to Taiwan....recovered? Not recovered?

Too many .......errors.....Too many people lookig the other way....

War is a cruel business, that's true... I say the war corporations have made enough... Time to end this war..

My vote goes to Obama.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let the fear mongering begin! hahaha

So now what El Presidente? Invade everyone, since they all maybe, might, could, could conceivably, possibly have WMD's?

Senator McCain, you had better get Dick Cheney and Condi out there running point on this one. No one talks a better "Mushroom Cloud" than they do.

= )

Sadly ironic: the US spent maybe six intense years (1939-1945) desperately trying to coax the genie out of the bottle, and now it's 63 and counting trying to stuff it back in. Or, at least, trying to keep other people from getting a bottle of their own.

What's the problem? Something to sell, someone wants to buy it. The only reason to be in business is to make a profit.
Kahn's activities perpetuate the unending conflicts that keep profit flowing to Duhbya's and Congress' owners.
Any fool will tell you war is good business.

gorideabike, you seem to have a handle on what WAR is all about. It's not about clashing ideologies, or freedom, or humanitarianism.
It is ONLY about PROFIT.
See the very excellent film LORD OF WAR. Research the web and your own local library to discover who makes money, all over the world, when there is war.
Follow the money.

LaurieLee you are right on. The whole story that Sibel has should be listened to by every citizen of the USA.

Very informative discussion about what she has said so far in the UK.

Does not the name Sibel Edmonds ring any Bells? Google her read a little bit about the whistleblower who is forbidden to whistle.

Find out for yourself why this was done to her and how nuclear proliferation has been handled by the current regime in Washington.

My guess is that something is getting ready to break in London on the Sybel Edmonds/Valerie Plame story that is under gag orders in the United States. Probably NYT disinformation. Edmonds and Plame have already testified that Bush-41 opened this nuclear can of worms in the Middle East by illegally providing Pakistan with nuclear technology against the will of Congress, as per usual.

The deeper story on Plame, as already reported in the UK press, is that she had busted the current Bush Administration's secret pipelining of nuclear information into Iran. Under Cheney, the Pentagon Office of Special Plans was to speed up the Iranian nuclear program (through Swiss, Turk, Afghan, Pakistani smuggling ring set up by BushCo) so we could then justify "regime change" in Iran on the order of our Iraq War precedent. Plame had already busted the Neocon-led OSP's attempts to plant bio WMD evidence in Iraq during the invasion.

I'll bet the censors stop this one but the information is already available in the UK. It's just that the US mainstream press is cooperating with withholding it from the American people. [cf. Times Online archives]

Sounds like they nailed this case of nuclear smuggling through good old fashioned sleuthing. Bush's way, invading countries, has produced nothing but utter destruction.

Pakistan was and is the clear and present danger that Iraq never was. It should have been handled and Iraq ignored. They still protect Khan, and continued to lie to us about what he did.

Nuclear weapons and facilities can be neutralized without using nuclear weapons and that is what the United States should be seriously considering in regards to making the U. S. safe.

I'll never say much good about Ronald Reagan, but I will say this.

He's the only president in my lifetime (and I go way back) who was serious about ridding the planet of atomic weapons, and attempted, however haltingly, to negotiate in that direction.

This Is what Valerie Plame was monitoring before being TREASONOUSLY outed by Bush, Cheney,

If there ever was a candidate for "snatching and rendering" and "enhanced interrogation", based on a calculation of what he knows that could help us in this era of terror, it would be AQ Khan.

Why do you think Pakistan is keeping Mr Khan under 'loose' house arrest? Preventing a snatching & rendering of him could be 1 reason for keeping Mr Khan under house arrest. The NYT, like Gore Vidal, can be cryptic, if it suits the NYT.

When these gadgets start flying around the world, I wonder who will make the distinction between "their" bad rogue bomb makers, and "our" FDA approved good bomb makers.

The only thing wrong with your comment is that it suggest that the FDA actually does some sort of "oversite"! Rock on pfc1369
