A commercial for Heinz Mayo featuring two men kissing premieres on UK TV Monday evening. As the UK's Guardian reports,

Heinz' new ad opens with a family on a normal morning routine with a young boy and girl getting ready for school and their father preparing for the office.

The young boy and girl go to the kitchen to get their sandwiches, which are being prepared by a man with a New York accent dressed in a deli serving outfit who they refer to as "mum".

When their father goes to get his sandwich he says to mum in the kitchen "See you tonight love".

However, mum barks back "Hey, ain't you forgetting something?", at which point the two men share a kiss. Mum then sends the father off with the words: "Love you. Straight home from work, sweet cheeks."

Watch the ad below:

The ad is part of a campaign with the tagline, "Give your BLT a little NYC" and, as the Guardian reports, the concept is, "the product tastes so good 'It's as if you have your own New York deli man in your kitchen.'"

I must protest. No gay man would call his lover sweet cheeks. That's breeder talk.

I insist that they immediately remove this commercial from the airwaves, re-shoot it, and cast Sean William Scott as mommy and Ashton Kutcher as er...um "sweet cheeks".

Uh... that's the point of the joke. The "deli man" is actually the wife and mother (which is why the kids call him "mum") -- using the Heinz mayo has turned her into a deli man.

It's a joke that's a tad hard to follow and rather lost in the broohaha of the guy-guy kiss.

The "mum" looked a little like Robt DiNero to me which made it even funnier.

At first I thought it was an ad with Arabs or French men kissing each other like they like to do over there. I was thinking U.K. how open minded! Then realized is a gay couple. Even more open minded!!! My question is why did it take so long? The racist mongers sure got excited with Madonna/ Spears kissing themselves live on TV. I think I'll get some Heinz next time I'm at the supermarket. LOVE not hate

As a lifelong New Yorker, I'm shocked, revolted, and disgusted: N o self-respecting New York deli man, gay or straight, ever gave a damn about mayonnaise. A NY deli uses the same industrial-size tub of Hellman's favored by every hash house from Maine to Monterey. It's the quality of the mustard, not the mayo, that's a point of pride for the reputable Jewish salami slinger or German Delikatessengeschäft.

in the U.K. they use mayo like we use butter--get over it! Not everyone eats mustard!

No, no, Brown is right. The ONLY mayo is Hellman's.....

NYC? NYC? From the land that gave the world Oscar Wilde and Quentin Crisp.

Oscar Wilde? Oscar Wilde was from Dublin. The story had to do with a deli, perhaps you meant Oscar Meyer?

I wish I had Oscar Wilde's weiner?

Can't wait to see this on Jay Leno! :-) Maybe the "haters" here can learn some tolerance from the British.

Tolerance does not mean acceptance. Tolerance is the act of putting up with somebody irritating or otherwise unpleasant. Acceptance is the willingness to accept somebody as a member of a group or Social circle. Just because I Tolerate you does not mean I will have you over for dinner. That being said I will not tolerate this commercial in my house or business and will do every thing I can to keep from purchasing Heinz products.

Tolerance: The capacity for or the practice of recognizing and respecting the beliefs or practices of others.

You can respect that people are different from you, and that it doesn't hurt your lifestyle if someone has a different sexual orientation (read: different practice).

I just hope you're joking about the last part of your post. If not, I hope you learn someday that there are many more similarities between you and a gay person than there are differences. And even if you believe there aren't, you can learn how to practice TOLERANCE (see above). It's not just about putting up with someone. It's about respecting their beliefs and practices, and through that, coming to see them as the same as you.

I'm not asking for your tolerance and acceptance. I don't care if you're not open.

But I am rather delighted over the fact that you are suffering from your own bigoted stranglehold. Please, do grab your own neck tighter and squeeze harder.

Wow what a great commercial. I wanted to go and stock up on some mayo. As a straight liberal atheist I went to see the Portland Gay Pride parade and it was a lot more interesting than the straight parades that were recently hosted in Portland, Oregon. Makes me want to suspect that us straight people are leading a dull and boring lifestyle.

Great let us now lower our social standards some more. The two men were depicting aberrant behavior. Tolerate it all you like is still aberrant.

Can you explain why exactly our social standards would be "lowered?" Is atypical behavior always in some way worse than the norm?

If so, mind explaining to me how the practice of non-violent resolution to disputes, as Gandhi practiced, lowered our social standards?

I feel so sorry for you. You're probably scared as hell of homosexuals. What have they ever done to you?

LOL!!! As with many creative and daring ads, I fear this will be short lived, although the Brits may not be as puritanical and weird about it as they would be here.

If it comes on my TV, I'll Boycott Heinz and any restaurant that carries Heinz.

Oh boy, bet you got Heinz scared now. They will probably cancel that ad and go hide in a cave, right where they can find you.
