Patti Solis Doyle, Former Clinton Campaign Manager, Hired By Obama Camp

***UPDATE*** The Obama campaign has sent out a press release highlighting a swath of new hires as they gear up for the general election campaign. One name on the list which sticks out is Patti Solis Doyle, the former campaign manager for Hillary Clinton. Doyle will fill the role of chief of staff to the vice presidential nominee.

Politico reports that Obama is expanding his campaign staff in Florida and Chicago:

Jim Messina, Max Baucus's chief of staff, is coming on board in Chicago with the title chief of staff, to help administer the growing operation with David Plouffe.

And Steve Schale, whom Adam Smith describes as a "hot shot," will run Obama's Florida operation

Obama has also hired a major Minnesota player to be his state director: Jeff Blodgett, the former campaign manager of Senator Paul Wellstone.

Not necessarily. Please note Obama also hired Jen O'Malley Dillon - formerly Iowa State Director for John Edwards for President -- as Battleground States Director. It's quite common for successful candidates to name their former rivals top staffers to their own campaigns. If anything, I would think Ms. Solis-Doyle's appointment probably means Clinton will NOT be named as VP. Hiring her campaign manager for this position gives him cover not to put Clinton on the ticket. Besides, the polls show Obama has an overwhelming advantage with women compared to McCain. He is up anywhere from 13 to 19 points; in contrast Al Gore never had more than an 11 point advantage. Obama simply does not need Clinton, and putting her on the ticket will carry way too much baggage both in the campaign and after he is elected.

Solis was Hillary's campaign manager for her Senate race in 00 and 06, and he campaign manager for presidential race in 08...They are VERY close, even though they ended in weird terms. Hillary for VP!!!

I think Obama is just messing with our minds. Solis Doyle would have been Clinton's chief of staff if things had worked out differently. Supposedly they aren't speaking, but who knows what's really going on. One thing that might be relevant is that women candidates tend to have women chiefs of staff. Seems odd to pick the VP COS before picking the VP. Ugh I can't take it. What does it all mean? Probably nothing.
