Rove

Mother Jones:

In a new National Journal article (not available online), writer Peter Stone dives deep into the conservative establishment and gets campaign staffers, movement operatives, and the ubiquitous "strategists" and "consultants" to talk about Karl Rove's current role in presidential politics. The takeaway? Rove is back. In fact, he probably never left. The campaign that is trying to prove it's not a second coming of George W. Bush is using the President's former chief strategist on a regular basis.

Stone says not to be fooled by Rove's hesitance to be identified with John McCain publicly.

...away from the spotlight, Rove has been busy pitching in by giving informal advice to McCain's team and spending a considerable amount of time as an outside adviser to Freedom's Watch, the conservative political group that is expected to spend tens of millions of dollars to help elect House GOP candidates. William Weidner, a Freedom's Watch board member, recently told National Journal that Rove has offered strategic advice to both the group and its major financial backer, Las Vegas casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson. Weidner, president of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., which Adelson chairs, called Rove "an invaluable asset" to the group....

ten steps that "fascist, totalitarian, and other repressive leaders [employ to] seize and maintain power, especially in what were once democracies.” The ten steps are:
1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy
2. Create a gulag
3. Develop a thug caste
4. Set up an internal surveillance system
5. Harass citizens' groups
6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release
7. Target key individuals
8. Control the press
9. Dissent equals treason
10. Suspend the rule of law

Yes, and what a waste of their money. he has NO clout this go round and all the swift boating the Repukes dish out this time will be answered immediately by the Barak camp. they have such credibility that swift-boating by the McCain bunch ala Rove will simply work in Barak's favor. So have at it and spend lots of money doing so. You guys have just lost your mojo and it is a great excuse for the Barak team to cut you down to size using the facts too.

The only reason Freedom Watch, watches freedom is to seek it out and destroy it. They know that Karl Rove is very good at destroying freedoms and this made up think tank "Freedom Watch" is just paying the guy to do what he is good at - turning everything he touches to sh*t. Sweet.

In the Middle Ages the likes of Carl Rove were used as decorations at the town's cross roads. I can not understand why that man is still allowed political life. He should at the very least be under active indictment, rather than being allowed to continue his career of spreading lies, discord and rapacity for power..

I'm looking forward to his testimony. Would prefer it come after Bush is out of office though so they can't pull a Scooter on his conviction.

Idiots is a good descriptor. Ask them - what would we have won if we had won in Viet Nam? They cant answer.

What delicious karma when the Rove-led GOP, especially the McCain campaign, but all the others he's involved in , implodes onNovember 8. I have nothing against Rove, except the usual "he destroyed my country." But I would be overjoyed to see Shelly Adelson's considerable fortune take a huge hit. I knew Shelly when he only dreamed of being a rich Republican. Now that he is one, I can''t wait from him to be "poor " again and remember where he came from.

He's being paid by others who are making lots of money from dead Americans. He ought to charged with treason and locked away along with his buddies for a long, long time!
