Rove

Mother Jones:

In a new National Journal article (not available online), writer Peter Stone dives deep into the conservative establishment and gets campaign staffers, movement operatives, and the ubiquitous "strategists" and "consultants" to talk about Karl Rove's current role in presidential politics. The takeaway? Rove is back. In fact, he probably never left. The campaign that is trying to prove it's not a second coming of George W. Bush is using the President's former chief strategist on a regular basis.

Stone says not to be fooled by Rove's hesitance to be identified with John McCain publicly.

...away from the spotlight, Rove has been busy pitching in by giving informal advice to McCain's team and spending a considerable amount of time as an outside adviser to Freedom's Watch, the conservative political group that is expected to spend tens of millions of dollars to help elect House GOP candidates. William Weidner, a Freedom's Watch board member, recently told National Journal that Rove has offered strategic advice to both the group and its major financial backer, Las Vegas casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson. Weidner, president of the Las Vegas Sands Corp., which Adelson chairs, called Rove "an invaluable asset" to the group....

No more Secret Service protection...I don't this KKKarl has gotten that yet.
Or, probably he needs that six figures to cover that putrid ass.

Darby's gettin' real tired of sittin' around the "Broken Eggie B&B", knittin' three-legged socks.

He's all ensconced with his Gannon buddies down in Florida.

BIRD DOG TIME.

He helped to send our freedoms down the drain. He should pay them, they watched freedom disappear under this administration. The republican "leaders" are so childish. Why don't they admit that the country is in the worst mess it has ever been in under their people?

Isn't Rove violating election law, here? Getting paid by a 527 group while being "busy pitching in by giving informal advice to McCain's team" appears to be a blatant violation of the legal proscription against a campaign coordinating with supposed independent 527 advocacy.

Right?

At a six figure salary, the T-Blossom should be able to put Jeff Gannon on his staff.

Or something to that effect.

Personally, I think Gannon was visiting Georgie Bush for his overnights in the White House.

George certainly seems to be overcompensating for SOMETHING!

Rove is the master diry trickster. Laura Ingrahm also has a history of engaging in dirty tricks; Limbaugh thinks he is a genius commanding his troops to game the election. Savage rants and raves day in and day out, sounding much like Hitler must have in the 1930's. Folks, I give you the apologists for the Repub party.

I would like to be one who spreads a word of caution. Do not pressure your congressmen to try and convict Rove before Bush is gone from the White House. His presidential pardoning power is great, as seen from all previous administrations who helped their buddies out of jail on their way out of power. Rove must be put away without such an easy escape route.

I don't know why they would pay him. He's not that good. He has managed to nearly sink the GOP. Yes he cleverly was able to beat John Kerry in Ohio by corralling the evangelicals and perhaps rigging a few ballot boxes, but 2006 was a catastrophe, and McCain is by all polling losing. So let them waste their money if they want. We'll elect a Democrat in November.

I disagree, he is still a force to be reckoned with. The knowledge base and contacts he has acquired are valuable. I would also look for ballot initiatives that give evangelicals a reason to go to the polls. The gay marriage initiatives in the 2004 election probably won the presidency for George Bush. That and nine hour lines in black precincts in Ohio.

Of course Rove's biggest problem will be McCain. He is indecisive, slow to move, and makes many gaffs. Additionally both Obama and Howard Dean's fifty state strategy will require a focus by Republicans on ten states instead of one or two. At this point they do not have the staff or the dollars to compete. This can all change.

Swiftboating should not be a factor in this election. If it is, then Obama does not deserve to win the election. He knows it is coming, and he is prepared to deal with it. If he cannot overcome than he has issues. Democrats need to be very vigilant at the polls this year. They must make sure there is no monkey business with electronic voting machines and if there is they have to immediately demand that the precincts where there are issues are immediately switched over to paper ballots. This is a pain in the butt, but will almost assure victory for Obama and the Democrats in November. If the polls are not watched -- EVERYWHERE then who knows what will happen.
