U.S. Marshals:

The United States Marshals Service is seeking information in its investigation to locate and apprehend federal fugitive Samuel Israel III. (For larger photo, click on photo on near left.)

Israel is the co-founder and chief executive of the now collapsed Bayou Group hedge fund, who cheated investors out of more than $400 million dollars. Israel was convicted of fraud violations, sentenced to a term of twenty (20) years and ordered to repay his victims more than $300 million dollars.

On June 9, Israel failed to surrender to begin the service of his sentence, and his vehicle was found near a Hudson River bridge, indicating that he may have committed suicide. Although suicide has not been ruled out at this time, the Marshals Service is treating this as a fugitive investigation.

Israel, age 48, is a white male, 5-11, 200 pounds, with brown hair and eyes, and has a tattoo of a bird on his left arm. He suffers from back pain, a heart condition, and is addicted to pain killer medication.

Anyone with information about Israel and his whereabouts should contact the United States Marshals Service at (800) 336-0102, or at www.usmarshals.gov .
