Inspiration For Much-Mocked Cornyn Video Revealed!

Yesterday, we brought you word of the video that John Cornyn's staff - apparently while in the grip of some degenerative mental condition - produced for the Texas Senator as an introduction to the Republican Party of Texas state convention. The results were something of a disaster. But as it turns out, it may have at least been an inspired disaster. As someone pointed out to me today, the Cornyn video bears a striking resemblance to a satiric commercial produced by Saturday Night Live, in which Will Ferrell portrays a giant lumberjack who makes feminine hygiene products out of woodchips. Compare the two videos below:

It says something about the quality of SNL these days that the Coryn ad is actually much funnier. For all the wrong reasons, but funnier just the same.

I am a huge SNL fan for over 20 years, so please excuse the following rant.

It is a personal irritant to me when I see these statements that always declare SNL is not what it used to be. I have read this for 20 some odd years, every year. It seems SNL is an amalgamation of some sort in people’s minds where it is a funny show in their memory, but they always feel the current show is not good. Maybe since each episode has many hit and miss moments? It is a 90 minute live show, written in 5 days time, that often has its finger on the pulse of the country, and can start cultural phenomenon that go on for years.

And by the way that Big Brawn add was done in 1996, does '96 still count as "these days"?

Sen John Cornyn has a voting record that speaks for itself. He has been one of the big supporters of NLCB, Iraq War, Economic policies, environmental policies and transportation policies of President Bush and the rest of the Neocons. He does not seem like a hard liner but none the less "BIG BAD JOHN" sounds about right.

It is time for Texans to stand up for themsleves! Texas needs to right the ship from these failed policies, bad leadership and judgement which Senator Cornyn has been so ready to get behind. I am from Texas and these guys support abstinence only education regardless of the fact that since Bush and others came to power on this state the numbers of teen pregnancy have risen. When Bush came to the governorship our state ranked 48th in education after he left it ranked 49th and yet Cornyn backs this guy. Texans are smarter than this which is why this fall we will elect RICK NORIEGA!
