Mark Wahlberg Slams The "Ocean's" Movies: "The Second One Sucked!"

Mark Wahlberg has been busy promoting his M. Night Shyamalan movie "The Happening," and he slammed George Clooney along the way.

Wahlberg had the following exchange with an interviewer from UK's Zoo Today about the part he gave up in the "Ocean's" movie, a part that ended up being played by Matt Damon.

Is it true you turned down the chance to be in the Ocean's films?

Yeah - and it was well worth it! The second one sucked! People tell George Clooney it's great, but we all know it sucked. I made two bad movies instead - Planet Of The Apes and The Truth About Charlie - but doing that was better than sitting with Brad and George, telling the press how great everybody is! "We were in Europe, George was funny, then we had some wine..." - that's not for me. I do love those guys, but I had to step out on my own.

I think he actually tells the interviewer what he thinks. That's refreshing.

I'd say that the second one was the low point of the series.

Still, even a bad M. Night Shyamalan movies has something going for it in my opinion. It's got an attitude. Something like Hitchcock in the use of imagery and tone. Just my opinion.

Unfortunately, what his movies have going against them is a pretentious self-assurance in one's own creativity and storytelling abilities being able to make up for the lack of content. M. Night has one strength, pastoral pieces about family life and decent pacing. Unfortunately, he's only ever done two solid movies.

I don't know what the fuss is about Wahlberg's comments. The second Ocean's movie really did suck and he admitted that he made two other crappy movies that really were crappy at that time.

Wahlberg is too generous. Every Soderbergh movie is crap. But then so is every Shyamalan film.

Every Soderbergh movie is crap? What are you talking about? "The Limey" was outstanding. Challenging perhaps, like many of his films, but brilliant. Soderbergh is one of those guys who can make films for the art houses or the megaplexes. Not all of them hit the mark. He's had his high points and his low points, but to dismiss the man's entire oeuvre out of hand is just asinine. Traffic, Erin Brockovich, Out of Sight, Ocean's 11...these were all quality films.

Of course they sucked. These movies always suck. They have a bunch of hype for the opening weekend and all the lemmings go to see it. They're all the same as each other and even all the other "blockbuster" Hollywood movies. None of them are worth a crap. As long as people keep going, they'll keep making more and more crap.

The Ocean series are nowhere near as sucky as some of the crap that Hollywood produces. Example: The 40yr Old Virgin? CRAP. White Chicks? CRAP. Showgirls? CRAP.

Give me an Ocean picture any day with a cast that spans the gamut of Hollywood from Clooney to Elliot Gould to Cheadle to Wahlberg to the inimitable Carl Reiner.

If you can't appreciate the camp value of Showgirls I feel sorry for you. 40 Year old virgin was funny - Steve Carell is adorable.

White Chicks- well I have to agree with you there.

But if I was to name bad movies Beyond Borders is right up there - a romance movie with a backdrop of world suffering...ugh. Yes Clive Owen and Angelina Jolie falling in love while they hold dying babies covered in flies. Not THATS bad.

Mark has an edge to him. He has made several mostly good films. The actors mostly just walk through the Ocean movies. The Ocean films are just very light entertainment and a fat paycheck for eveyone involved.
