Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg has been busy promoting his M. Night Shyamalan movie "The Happening," and he slammed George Clooney along the way.

Wahlberg had the following exchange with an interviewer from UK's Zoo Today about the part he gave up in the "Ocean's" movie, a part that ended up being played by Matt Damon.

Is it true you turned down the chance to be in the Ocean's films?

Yeah - and it was well worth it! The second one sucked! People tell George Clooney it's great, but we all know it sucked. I made two bad movies instead - Planet Of The Apes and The Truth About Charlie - but doing that was better than sitting with Brad and George, telling the press how great everybody is! "We were in Europe, George was funny, then we had some wine..." - that's not for me. I do love those guys, but I had to step out on my own.

translation: instead of sucking in those sucky movies, I sucked in a bunch of others.

Lets see, has he been in a good movie? The Shooter was laughable, I could not understand a word that came out of his mouth, he is such a bad actor. I had to turn on the CC and then I only got through 45 minutes of that crap. The Depahted was so overrated I won't discuss it. Just because Nicholson is in it does not make it instantly great. Another movie you could not understand Marky. I can't think of another movie he has been in, thankfully.

You need to watch The Departed again.

How bout Basketball Diaries, ya catch that one?

How bout Boogie Nights or We Own the Night.

You got HBO, like 'entourage'? seems a litte biographical to me.

The Departed was a really good movie. Do not know what your objection to it is. Good plot line, good acting all round. Was a bit too violent for me, but it is Scorsese.

Meh, I just don't believe any of these guys when they "act", they suck and ruin what could be good stuff. Markie and Damon are stiffs.

He is correct, Oceans 12 was really bad and just self-celebrity worship. I mean, come on, the whole Julia Roberts as Julia Roberts?

That was physically painful to watch.

That said, Wahlberg's comments are pretty classless.

Clooney did the Ocean's Pictures so he could do Good Night and Good Luck and other movies that do not have the budget of the Ocean's pictures.

I thought Oceans 3 sucked the most. Not sure he gains by burning bridges.

Wahlberg couldn't be more right and its not the actors fault. The plot made no sense, the movie was poorly written to say the least.

He does. He admit it sucked right there when he said he didn't do a sucky movie. Did you miss that part?

Oh come on. What seeems to have passed everyone by is the fact that Dorchester Mass. is the new Beverly Hills and producing an amazing array of talent, all of whom have had more hits than misses. The Wahlbergs, Matt Damon, the Afflecks, they are all interchangeable because thay all bring to a project, the indefineable east coast, Boston hutzpah attitude that jumps off of the screen. And Ben Afflecks directorial debut was nothing short of amazing. I think Markey Mark was having you on on.........
wicked awsome like.

It is just tragic that in my lifetime I've seen criticism shift from specifics about art...effective camera angles, emotional content, location, character, storyline, pacing or lighting to the globally vague value judgements such as "this movie sucked."
People, WHY does something suck? Is it the box office receipts that you care about? Which star is "on the rise" in the TMZ sense? I've read as many comments as I could stand and I couldn't find a single one including the original Wahlberg quote that is on the subject of movies or art. What I see is "awesome" or "sucked" as final polar guidelines. I'm no snob nor film critic, I like a good entertaining flick for s's and giggles. But I can certainly articulate WHY I like even a crappy film.

True, jsut saying it sucked doesn't count. The whole story line was devoid of any thing remotely interesting. No character development. Just the same guys doning the same thing in a new location. I saw it in the first time, when it was titled Ocean's 11 ( the only decent one, and the only good Ocean's film was the classic featuring The Rat Pack).

Dorchester is not certainly not the the new Hollywood. Yeah they film there very so often but it's still awful. Kids still kid killed over there and the neighborhood is still rough.

I love Mark Wahlberg but he shouldn't be talking trash after that awful movie the Happening from M. Night Shamalamadingdong. Mark is the only saving grace of the movie, but still.

Agreed! He showed the complete range of emotions from A to almost B. Then again, the script he had to work with was only an interesting first act with but a mere hint of a second act and nothing thereafter.

Maybe Marky Mark hasn't seen the latest screening of his own latest movie - "The Happening". Now that movie SUCKED! I paid $8 to watch some of the worst dialog, poorest acting skills, and downright cheesy storyline. Dude, get a grip, you're not even in the same league as Clooney. You're playing Double A ball and Clooney is a veteran in the big show.

I agree, I couldn't help laughing out loud when I read this, especially after seeing The Happening on Sunday. That was probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my entire life. I'll take Ocean's 12 any day!

Does anybody here get that Wahlberg did make the movie The Happening he just stared in it. Good actors can be in movies that stink. I did not like Night's "Signs" but the acting was OK.

Clooney gave him his first big break in "A Perfect Storm". Nice way for a Born-Again fellow like him to say thanks.

Wahlberg's acting isn't half the movie O12 is... period. I really don't understand why people think he's good.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:57 PM on 06/17/2008

Probably because his role in the Departed was stellar and a scene stealer, even among the best actors in the industry. That being said he's honest, Oceans 12 was full of monumental levels of suck as was Planet of the Apes. He doesn't claim to make better movies then Clooney or that he's a better actor, how could he after the garbage that is The Happening was released in theaters.

The masturbation that is the Ocean 11,12,13 press junkets is well known and quite sickening in my opinion. Props to Wahlburg for telling it how it is.

Interesting. Katherine Heigl makes a comment about the material she did, and people on this site call her every name in the book. Mark Wahlberg does it, and he gets affirmation.

I think they're both well within their rights to say whatever they want. It's just a shame there's such a double standard when it comes to how people react.

I think Grey's was trash anyway, and Whalberg's perfromance in the happening was consciously bad.

But yeah, in our house, it's called The Crappening.

It's interesting there are people that look for double standards where there are none. Aside from the fact, if you read more than one post, people are calling Marky a lunkhead too (and there are those that are not just like in Heigl's article)....the complaints aren't comparable. Marky is saying he passed on some films because he wasn't interested in the love fest junkets and the movies weren't good. Katherine is putting down a whole writing staff she'll have to work with pretty soon. Hopefully they'll write her cleaning bedpans until her contract runs out and she can join Shelly Long on the golf course.

I read all of the comments before mine, and on average, they're much more forgiving than the comments to the Katherine Heigl article.

And their comments certainly are comparable. In addition to Mark saying he turned down the Oceans movies, he said, "I made two bad movies instead - Planet Of The Apes and The Truth About Charlie..." That's a slam against the entire cast and crew of those films, and the studios that made them, many of whom he's very likely to work with again. And KH did not put down the writing staff, she said she wasn't given Emmy-worthy storylines this season. And anyone who watched the show for the last two seasons knows that she's absolutely right.

I guess it takes a sucky movie star to know when another movie sucks. Does he have ANY films that have done very, very well? Or even close to the level of Clooney or Pitt?

Yeah, that was real good I'll admit. But his role wasn't large. Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson made that what it was.

If I ever forget the clusterf*ck that was the last five minutes of The Departed, it will be way too soon. BangSplat, BangSplat, BangSplat, BangSplat.

Ooops. I guess I should've said, "Spoiler Alert," but I think I was the last person to see it.
