Barack Obama: Lay Off My Family

On the same day that former GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee told his party that demonizing Barack Obama is a 'fatal mistake,' Obama told a reporter from CBN news that the GOP needs to lay off his family. Read part of the transcript below and watch the interview here.

Obama told CBN News that he is deeply disappointed that John McCain has not spoken out against political attacks leveled at his wife.

"I think families are off limits. I would never consider making Cindy McCain a campaign issue," he said. "And if I saw people doing that - I would speak out against it. And the fact that I haven't seen that from John McCain I think is a deep disappointment."

The McCain campaign sent CBN News a written response to Obama's comments.

"Senator McCain agrees with Senator Obama that spouses should not be an issue in this campaign, and he has stated that position frequently," Joe Pounder, McCain's spokesman, said. "Unfortunately, when the Democratic National Committee was attacking Mrs. McCain, Senator Obama was not strong enough to stand up and speak out."

"Obama's silence speaks volumes, and it's unfortunate that he would single out others for a standard he himself has failed to live up to," he said.

This is the dialogue America has been waiting eight years to engage in? GOP how about the issues. Please tell us how the guy you have running for President is going to improve the lives of the citizens of the United States and the World. And don't say by drilling for oil off the west coast.

I do not understand why Democrats insist on saying we are at war or that there is a war. The US Constitution is pretty clear that for a war to exist there has to be a Congressional Declaration. The PResident is Commander in Chief, but only as an executive. Like all of his/her duties he executes the policy and action mandated by congress.

Congress did pass a law that allows a President to use limited Action to counter pressing needs to allow Congress time to deliberate, but for that action to be supported as a war Congress has to declare the existance of one.

THere has been no such declaration so there are no "War Time Powers" for the president. Stop perpetuating the myth that we are at War. We are no more at war now than we were in the "War" on poverty or drugs.

Oh, Micelle Obama is fine by me. I like Laura Bush as well. I just can't stand her husband, but there is no accounting for taste, hers, mine, or yours.

It just seems to me like McCain is looking for any excuse to take them gloves off. Since when did taking the "high road" mean that the first second you feel like someone does you wrong, you strike back in the most infantile way possible. It really bugs me that McCain seems to want it both ways.

Everyone agrees that the DNC is a Democratic organization (and I haven't seen anything I consider an attack, except as you pointed out, the jet thing). You can claim that Fox News is a Republican organization, but technically it's not. No Republican organization used "fist jab" or "baby mama", so it doesn't compare.

Pat Robertson, the head of CBN, tells his gullible viewers to touch the tv screen for a miracle. He said that an angry God sent the terrorists and the terrible storms. He says that God wants us to give and then he offers us his toll-free number. Now his fake holyman adulterer son is poised to bilk the next generation of faithfuls.
I simply cannot believe that any candidate for the Presidency of this country would want any kind of association with these glaring frauds, or this network. The very people who should be working to expose fraud are the ones helping it to grow and spread. The media and our lawmakers look the other way as these counterfeits line their pockets, exploiting faithfuls and using prayer and healing as a money-making tool.
