Cindy McCain Less Understanding Than Laura Bush Of Michelle Obama's Remarks

Cindy McCain criticizes Michelle Obama in an interview to be aired tomorrow on ABC's "Good Morning America". Speaking about the months-old Michelle Obama patriotism controversy, Cindy McCain says:

I don't know why she said what she said. Everyone has their own experience. I don't know why she said what she said, all I know is that I have always been proud of my country.

McCain's comments on the issue differ from Laura Bush's, who defended Obama in an earlier "Good Morning America" interview.

I think she probably meant I'm 'more proud,' you know, is what she really meant. You have to be very careful in what you say. I mean, I know that, and that's one of the things you learn and that's one of the really difficult parts both of running for president and for being the spouse of the president, and that is, everything you say is looked at and in many cases misconstrued.

This morning, Michelle Obama guest-hosted "The View" and noted how she sent a thank you note to Bush for standing up for her.

So now McCain's criminal past are fair game right? Of course I expect the corporate prostitute media will ignore it but we can hope.

This is a home breaker who ran away with a Man who was supposed to be her father. A drug addict who even stole drugs meant for the less privileged.
Its really unfortunate for the Republicans to attack Michelle and a drugg addict who went for Rehab aslo fuels it.
Tell Sean Hannity that, cindy McCain, is where she is now just because he had a Sen. as a husband or else she would have been a Jail bird as any other person who stole.
Repugnants you should go, continue attacking and making yourself as low as ever.
Thanks

Cindy McCain and Rush Limbaugh should both be in jail for their drug transgressions. How dare she open her mouth against Mrs. Obama.

Cindy McCain is not in the same league and cannot even begin to match the Michelle Obama's class. With her track record, past and present, Cindy McCain has not earned the right to point her finger at Michelle Obama or at any other person. Her views are totally irrelevant.

It is natural that Cindy McCain, whose American experience was totally opposite of Michele Obama's, would have difficulty understanding Michele's point of view.

Cindy McCain, the beautiful blonde, White woman from privilege, accepted, welcomed and loved in every circle. Cindy, who never had to work hard at anything, who never had to prove herself, who never had a door slammed in her face. Cindy inherited (and stole) what she has; Michele worked for hers.

You hit the nail on the head with that one PJ. I think Barbie McCain should try doing without... and then she might understand how the MAJORITY of America lives...

Exactly to the point which also explains why Cindy McCain would make a lousy First Lady -- lack of empathy; in inability to understand how one American's experience could be different from her own privileged existence and therefore would color their perceptions, even as she mouths the words that claims that she does. "Eveyrone has their own experience", but that experience somehow is without validity to Cindy.

And having said that, Ms McCain's comments does not speak to the fact that Michelle did not say that she was not proud of her country. As I think it is clear to anyone with an open mind, the exact comment "really proud of my country" was an attempt to speak to a heightened experience of what she felt and has felt, not what she was feeling for the first time.

For Cindy McCain to make political hay of this is just a calculated manipulation. She would have made a much better impression of herself if she had taken Laura Bush's turn towards warmth and compassion. That does not to be Cindy's way, however.

Wow, you stated that superbly.....

CIndy McCain is a judgemental, self righteous person. Anyone who escaped Federal charges for stealing money from a self funded charity and stealing prescription drugs should be ETERNALLY grateful and a ALOT more understanding of other people. She is plagues with the blindness that most people who are born rich have..never had to earn their way, never had to do anything to accomplish anything for themselves. I respect John McCain, but his wife would do well to take a cue from a REAL first lady, the honorable Laura Bush....a TRUE Christian in word AND deed!

Does Cindy McCain not comprehend English grammar, or is she merely unfamiliar with adjectives and other modifiers?

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to recognize that never having been "really proud" in Michelle Obama's adult life DOES NOT equal never having been proud. There should be no need for defense of a statement that offered such a qualifier.

Of course, one must assume that people who bought this mistranslation either didn't bother to check facts and actual quotes, or else are dumb enough to believe that stating something like "I'm under 6 feet tall" can be construed to also mean "I'm under 5 feet tall" when the first piece of information provides no means of gauging the truth of the other but suggests that the person is actually above 5 feet or they wouldn't have used 6 feet as the comparison value.

Likewise, Michelle Obama's statement about never before in her adult life being "really proud" of the nation implies (but cannot prove) that she HAS been PROUD of the nation, hence the need to set apart the increased degree of pride she felt in that situation. Had she never been proud, the "really" would not be necessary.

But then, logic has never been the strong point of the extreme right; nor has comprehension of the English language or the integrity to speak facts rather than throwing out something sensationalized and of dubious truth, at best.

Yes, exactly! It's interesting to see that if Michelle's statement was a question on a high school comprehension test, all the media would fail miserably.

I love the fact that Laura Bush is the one who has made Cindy McCain look petty and mean. Cindy McCain was a drug addict, a thief (from her own charity), and adulterer. Why won't any journalists ever mention this, especially while they are attacking Michelle Obama?

I wrote these same things in my post yesterday -- which wasn't, of course, approved and published.

Good points -- three major displays of character deficiency. Who would Cindy McCain be to judge anyone?

Thats a very good question! Thank god for the internet. From everything I have read about Cindy McCain's past she seems like an awful person. Basically the exact opposite of what I've seen in Michelle Obama.

so classless, Cindy McCain. especially considering how she and her family were treated in 2000, it is awful to think that she would participate in tearing down another candidates family.

She so proud to be a american that she did charity work at medical charities so she could steal the drugs and use them on herself. She so proud to be an american, that she don't understand that american women do not let their husbands verbally abuse them like she allows hers to abuse her. She so proud to be an American that she thinks it's awful when a great lady like Laura Bush say she understands what Michelle Obama meant , and she is just so clueless to it all. this lady don't have a clue what a Proud American Women do and say to one another.

Cindy McCain is just too much of a rich Barbie Doll to get what average people go through and what they think. I'm not always proud of the image that America projects to the world. I'm proud of our traditions like free speech, the right to vote, our Constitution, free press, our traditions of not torturing prisoners, but I'm not proud of the slavery in our past or of Jim Crow laws in the South or the torturing of prisoners that Bush and Cindy support. Someday, under a government like Bush's, I might be the enemy, and I might be the one tortured, so, of course, I want to be proud of our upholding our traditions. I'm just not capable of being so simple-minded and ga-ga as Cindy-girl. She needs to get some depth to her, then she wouldn't open her mouth and show what a empty kettle she is.
