ABC News:

In a little-noticed interview in October 2006, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, D-SD, talked a great deal about his recollections of negotiations with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to become a Democrat.

The conversation is interesting in light of McCain's shift to the right on some issues as he pursued the GOP presidential nomination, but also Daschle's praise for McCain as someone capable of real bipartisan cooperation.

Well, I remember it reasonably well.

Yes, McSame nearly jumped ship. I'm glad he didn't because we Dems are already pushed hard to the right by the likes of Diane Feinstein and other Republican-Lite DLC members. We need to be rid of these people!

Follow the example of the Religious Right in taking over the R party - well, as best they could anyway. Trouble was, core R values aren't compatible with Christianity... We Dems should be able to actually reform the D party into becoming what it formerly was, instead of what the Religious tried, creating something new. They had a coalition of three: The Religious, the avarice and Neo-Cons, none of which can really tolerate each other. We don't have that problem, we just have liberals, progressives, and the anti-war independents, all of which are completely compatible.
