Michelle Obama On "The View": Fist Bumps All Around

Michelle Obama opened up her long-awaited cohosting day on "The View" with fist bumps to all the ladies. Poking fun at the "terrorist fist jab" remark a Fox News correspondent made after her infamous fist bump with her husband, Michelle said after sitting, "I have to be greeted properly. Fist bump please."

You should get your pen ready. I watched FOX tonight and I saw The View. On The View, Elisabeth "two-faced" Hasselback was all lovely and "oh they just want us to fight because we are women but we have so much in common and Michelle is so great." on FOX, she was trying to make Hannity happy and said " Senator Obama's associations are still questionable and I would be concerned about him as a President because I'm an American and I'm a mother.He gave a terrorist fist jab to somebody" (though she gave the fist jab to Michelle) . I was pissed but I knew she would do it. That's what you can expect from an overrated reality show whiner. It was just like when Obama was on, she said she was prepared to campaign and vote for him. The next day, ahe joined in Hannity's chorus of Revernd Wright (FOX is the only station still mentioning Reverend Wright EVERY night). She is pathetic and I hope they call her on her two faces tomorrow. I set my DVR. Get her Joy!

It never ceases to amaze me, the double racial/sexual standard. Michelle Obama is accused by the right wing of being "angry." They confuse self possession, power, intelligence, and assertiveness with anger when they see those traits in a black woman. I was thinking the same thing as dajay about how strange it is that the potential first ladies were co-hosting a television show. But your point about Whoopi Goldberg is so true. She really is very knowledgeable about politics, the issues and policy. Whoopi is a real treasure. She will give you her opinion, but she'll also listen to the opinions of others with respect. It still is different though than in the past that potential first ladies are doing co-hosting, but then again they go on to some extent so that the public can get a better look at them as people. No we don't really get a full understanding about who they are, but it's a peek at the person behind the campaign and both Michelle and Cindy have had to deal with some very cruel things said about them.

As a former high school teacher, I saw many "smart black women" denied admission into any college they wanted to attend. However being accepted into an Ivy League University even on Affirmative Action, as both Michelle Obama and George W. Bush were, does not guarantee that one will excel. Michelle not only excelled at Princeton, but she has used her education and experience at Princeton to continue to build on her achievements, and is a very accomplished woman in her own right.

Cindy McCain, on the other hand, is a shallow white woman who simply inherited a lot of money and steals recipes!

I thought that too back in 1980, but it didn't work for many of the smart black women I know. They didn't get into any college they wanted. Many had to choose far lower than the colleges of their dreams for a number of reasons. So, being smart is not and was not a guarantee to a better education and ultimately a better life.

As for pompous, (someone who has too high of an opinion of herself and works to attract attention to themselves and displays their own self importance), I don't see Mrs. Obama that way and believe that, for some, she is damned no matter what she does.

And I wonder what would make you feel better about her? Would it be better for her to appear in a kitchen with a skillet in hand? Or maybe not appear at all and be bashful and shy and unable to speak a complete sentence with an "uh" or an "umm" thrown in for good measure?

Rather than pompous, a better description might be stately or dignified. She isn't running for office but has been thrown into the spotlight as the candidate's wife. And I suspect there are many other spouses who would not handle the kind of scrutiny she's dealt with as well as she has. Good for her.

I am going to be blunt...it's her color. That is the biggest issue. It's amazing to me that she and her husband have this magnificent American dream story, yet they are looked upon as outsiders. This is a barrier that I am hoping that we as Americans can get over, because I don't care about your color...I want to know about your integrity. On the other side, you have Cindy who has NEVER had to struggle; a mistress(home-wrecker); druggie; theft; etc. yet she is looked upon as the perfect person. She's untouchable.

Mrs. O. did a very sympathetic "60 Minutes" interview before the whole "proud" speech, and she came off fine. It really was that terrible speech, and I understand that you want to insist that we define "really" as an intensifier, but the more common definition is "genuinely" and "truly."
