Michelle Obama On "The View": Fist Bumps All Around

Michelle Obama opened up her long-awaited cohosting day on "The View" with fist bumps to all the ladies. Poking fun at the "terrorist fist jab" remark a Fox News correspondent made after her infamous fist bump with her husband, Michelle said after sitting, "I have to be greeted properly. Fist bump please."

Anyone else think that Michelle Obama looks a bit like Sigourney Weaver? ... very tall and elegant, well bred and articulate. Plus being whip smart, articulate and clearly nobody's fool. I have come to like Michelle over the months, but I do see some areas where improvement can be made that will benefit her having her message heard by the more skeptical. I would start by suggesting she read a book about transactional analysis. One of the reasons Laura Bush has come out relatively unscathed even though her husband is virtually hated is, I contend, because as a trained teacher, she learned the difference between the use of "You messages" and "I Messages (We messages)" Teachers don't explain things with You messages unless they're intentionally focussing on them for a specific reason because You messages come off to the receiver like a parent talking down to her children. Many of Michelle's stump speeches were laced with You messages such as "you feel this way out of fear because people do ..." to illicit that fear response. I felt when listening to her on CSPAN that she was condescending and I know others who did also and interestingly most of us were teachers or counselors or other people trained to notice and listen closely to the words. When she sits in a small group as she did today and converses, she does not use the "you messages" that distract mature people who may not at all feel the way she describes with her "You statements." As she grows into this new role, I hope a little constructive criticism comes her way regarding that simple, but profound change she could make.

I am so glad to see Michelle on the View finally. I've always liked her. But there's nothing like getting to know someone who co-hosts that show. She is glowing good health; mind, body and spirit with a quick, sharp wit, yet her blue collar roots give her a grounded common sense that is really lovable.

I've set my tivo to record two shows I never watch, each for my girls Joy and Elizabeth. You go get em girls. :)

I work at home and the girls on the view are my best every morning pals. I'm a yellow dog democrat and Obama '08 since February '07, so I'd love to engage Elizabeth in a spirited debate at times. But she's a big part of my dearest tv family. She believes everything she's saying. In a democratic society you can ask no more than that. How many times does Obama have to say it's time for us to quit demonizing people we disagree with? So ya'll do me a favor and lay off Elizabeth.

And of course, Joy is a like a God to me. :) If you put a red mark on the calendar every day she's dead-on about people and politics.... it'd be a red calendar.

I suppose that since mostly former first ladies wore jackets and skirts, it takes a little used-to to get to see Michelle Obama in a different fashion setting. I am not sure I like her sleeveless dresses, but I can say one thing. I believe she would be a fine Frist Lady.
She has integrity. She has never stolen two recepies, stolen drugs and got arrested. As a black woman, that would have disqualified her - her husband would not even try to run for president. So how come Cindi McCain is "qualified" with all what she has done to disgrace herself? Two sets of rules, eh. One for white people, and one for black people.
Now I would prefer to have Michelle as Frist Lady rather than a thief who has no integrity because we would not have to hide the White House china if she got in the White House.

I'd prefer to ignore the first ladies, to ignore the first family, and to worry about the nominee and his/her positions on the issues. Oh, and I, like a lot of Obama supporters, seem not to care whether he is "faithful" or not, and would still support him -- if I subscribe to his platform -- even if it came out that he did not conform to some outdated view of what marriage should be.

Michelle's fashion is flawless. It's professional yet not too stiff, she's not afraid of color but it never comes off gaudy, and she looks very current. But, what I like most about her is that she is as inspiring a speaker as her husband. She's whip smart, exudes strength, grace and integrity.
