Dobbs

Thursday night, Lou Dobbs called for George Bush's impeachment over his mismanagement of the Food and Drug Administration which has, in Dobbs' view, ultimately led to the ongoing salmonella scare surrounding tomatoes.

Watch and read Dobbs' comments below (via ThinkProgress):

You know, I have heard a lot of reasons over the years as to why George W. Bush should be impeached. For them to leave the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in this state, its leadership in this sorry condition and to have no capacity apparently or will to protect the American consumer - that is alone to me sufficient reason to impeach a president who has made this agency possible and has ripped its guts out in its ability to protect the American consumer. It's insane what is going on here.

Watch it:

In his "Beat the Press" segment, Dan Abrams mocked Dobbs' conspiracy theory that the government was enabling the salmonella scare around tomatoes. "Ah yes, they are doing it to help boost the sale of avocados in sandwiches instead!" Abrams said.

Turn off CNN, permanently! I'm sorry, but these types ridiculous comments aren't worthy of bringing up. The MSM has sold its soul to corporations--WE SHOULD ALL TURN THEM OFF!

I turned off all cable news shows a few years ago and I've never been happier. Even when there's news in the world cable doesn't give us news. They give us a camera pointed at a statue while CNN figures out how to contrive a "dramatic moment" to keep the saps tuned in. They give us cute, and they give us stacked, but I can get that from a magazine. Turn them all off. They're as toxic as a terrorist bump.

This time Dobbs is right. What the President has done with the FDA isn't that different from FEMA, the EPA. Instead of using government in the way it has been designed, government is used as a play toy for the Bush fantasy.

Maybe there is a conspiracy and maybe not. It only shows we can destroy much with the misapplication of missiles, or we can do much with tomatoes. But destroying the federal agencies to make them part of an executive fantasy is just wrong.

Lou must really miss the T on his BL sandwiches. With all the unforgivable madness of the Bush Administration to choose from, focusing on this one and this one only is mystifying.

Wow I didn't expect that many jokes. Bush has ripped the guts out of all the agencies protecting the consumer. In the name of conservatism. Not even a true conservative would strip them down this much. Bush is a puppet of the neo's, he's not smart enough to be one himself. OSHA, FDA, etc. do not have the manpower or equipment to keep us safe thanks to Dub's cuts.

Impeach? What about a war crimes trial?

War Crimes? What when we have a tomato problem? Please, you need to rethink your priorities.

When the editor of the far left New Republic publishes and op-ed in the far left LA Times stating "Bush never lied", then you understand the reason why.

Ironically, those that state "Bush lied" are the ones doing the most lying. REvising history for your own selfish reasons is sad.

Take a deep breath, read the LA Times op-ed. Once you understand this, you'll understand why congress isn't acting. And you'll understand why Pelosi et al are playing you like a violin.

That's right. Our current President is the Best. He has never lied, mislead or done anything questionable. He makes brilliant decisions, stirs up nothing but love and respect for our country around the world. Most important, is his command of the English language. Did he major in Literature? I am absolutely spellbound when he speaks. When he told the Pope that his speech was 'awesome', I thought to myself, we are the luckiest people in the world. I need to thank him for all of the proudest moments in American History. He's just unbelievable in his greatness.

Actually, the New Republic is center-right, and the LA Times is far right, just this side of the lunatic fringe.

So this should come as no surprise to thinking people.

Lou Dobbs may be wrong in his solutions to trade and immigration, but to dismiss him as a racist lunatic, as some on this board have done, is also wrong. He is harping on issues that most of the MSM ignores, or at least cover only with soundbites. We are a country of immigrants, the greatest source of our wealth. But, if anyone believes that uncontrolled immigration isn't contributing to serious economic problems at the state and local levels, they're being blind to reality. Also, for the better part of our history America protected its manufacturing base through fair trade agreements and tariffs, policies that were favored by both major parties. The race towards free trade is part of the neo-con philosophy of supply side economics that has devastated regions of our country, creating economic dislocation and poverty and contributing to the massive debt our country has accumulated. To some, Dobbs may sound like a demogogue on these issues, but its important to recognize the effects they are having on our standard of living.

As for "tomato-gate", Dobbs is right in his core premise. Bush has once again shown his incompetence in administering his office and it is grounds for impeachment. I'm happy to hear Dobbs acknowledge it, even though nothing will come of it. Just add it to lieing us into war, Katrina, energy prices, corruption, etc., as reasons why Bush should be impeached, but won't.

Back in the '60s and '70s the poisonous stuff was all under the sink. But ever since Reagan and the era of deregulation, the one thing you mustn't touch, the most dangerous, toxic thing in your house is the raw chicken in the fridge. And eggs, and lettuce, and scallions, and beef, and pork, and now tomatoes.

Bring back the FDA. Bring back regulation. Save us from corporate greed. Looks like we need Ralph Nader after all.

There's always one in every crowd. An anti-tomatoite. What? Your mother force you to eat them when you were younger? You got them thrown at you on stage during a high school production? Tomatoes have rights, damn it!

God, you people sicken me...

What a very silly story. Explain to me how here in Japan, we had the same problem,
same time frame, miles apart. Does he intend to impeach PM Fukuda too?

Dobbs is such a doofus. A war that killed thousands, ignoring a major city struck by a hurricane and obstructing justice from every corner of the White House are not enough reasons to have impeached George Bush? Tomatoes are the tip of the iceberg. The real crux of the matter is that those tomatoes came from Mexico and this makes Lou go ballistic and roll his eyes, salivating like a mad dog at the thought of our neighbors across the border.

You're missing the point of Dobbs' criticism. The Bush Administration is corrupt and the assignment of know-nothings to lead the agencies to make them ineffective is a manifestation of it. Just add it to the war, Katrina, etc., why Bush should have been removed from office.
