Kristol: Bush Might Bomb Iran If He 'Thinks Obama's Going To Win'

On Fox News Sunday this morning, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said that President Bush is more likely to attack Iran if he believes Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is going to be elected.

However, "if the president thought John McCain was going to be the next president, he would think it more appropriate to let the next president make that decision than do it on his way out," Kristol said, reinforcing the fact that McCain is offering a third Bush term on Iran.

"I do wonder with Senator Obama, if President Bush thinks Senator Obama's going to win, does he somehow think -- does he worry that Obama won't follow through on that policy," Kristol added. Host Chris Wallace then asked if Kristol was suggesting that Bush might "launch a military strike" before or after the election.

Kristol is upset at the thought of Obama winning and not bombing Iran. I swear it seems as some of the neocons get older, they get more and more delusional. Norman Podhoretz has been the wildest of the wildmen in the neocon gang, but Kristol seems to be angling for the top spot.

It doesn't have to do with whether or not he'd make the decision, if Bush DID make that decision to bomb Iran in the event Obama wins the nomination, it would be purely because he figured it would make it a lot harder for the Obama Administration and Congress to organize an independent council to investigate and eventually prosecute members of the Bush Administration for war crimes if there were a conflict going on in Iran. It's not a matter of "leaving a mess for the next guy" or anything like that, the Bush Administration is in pure self-preservation mode here. They're desperate for a little wiggle room to get out of the mess they put themselves in, and you can't really put such a disastrous act past them. For them, at worst, it would just be one more thing on a long laundry list of things they could be prosecuted for. At best, it could give them leverage to make a case to Congress to let them all get away with their many crimes.

Sadly, I think this year's "October Surprise" will be Bush bombing Iran. Probably late October so the "rally around the flag" effect is still in full swing come election day. Going to war in late October or early November pretty much guarantees a McCain victory. I fear the American people aren't quite intelligent enough to see through it...

Now that we have been alerted by Kristol and Black, Bush needs to do everything in his power to prevent either a terrorist attack or the bombing of Iran. If anything like that happens, it wont be a "Surprise". We will be aware and they will pay for the demonic behaviour. I can't believe how freely they speak with such malicious forethought.
