Think Progress:

On Fox News Sunday this morning, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said that President Bush is more likely to attack Iran if he believes Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is going to be elected.

However, "if the president thought John McCain was going to be the next president, he would think it more appropriate to let the next president make that decision than do it on his way out," Kristol said, reinforcing the fact that McCain is offering a third Bush term on Iran.

"I do wonder with Senator Obama, if President Bush thinks Senator Obama's going to win, does he somehow think -- does he worry that Obama won't follow through on that policy," Kristol added. Host Chris Wallace then asked if Kristol was suggesting that Bush might "launch a military strike" before or after the election.

If Kristol was talking about anyone I'd say he's talking out his butt. However, as he's talking about Bush I worried. I'll never again put anything pass that nut job.

I only hope that Kristol is being consistent with most of what he says and is dead wrong about this as well.

"We" aren't going to attack Iran. The Israeli's are. But we'll be there to blunt the counter attack from Iran.

THEN - the s.h.i.t, hits the fan.

One more reason why Bushemada should be the first President to go to prison for the rest of his unnatural life. He's already started two wars for political reasons, why not another?

After reading 650 or so of these comments, it occurred to me: Damn, I miss the simple times when all you had to worry about the Republicans doing was breaking into Democratic Party offices.

To think that I could read about a President of the United States of America bombing another soveriegn nation just because his Party might lose the White House - and be forced by his previous actions to give the possibility serious consideration!!!!

Those Republicans...man....

They've come a long way, baby...towards barbarity.

I think BC is as correct as he's always been, which is to say, not at all. Unless this maniacs plan to plunge the country into the biggest economic black-hole ever seen, surpassing the big depression. Let's not forget that we have not even started paying the interest on the ongoing war as it is. A war that is calculated to cost us over a TRILLION and a half which we have mostly borrowed from China (yeah that China) and Japan.

Other facts to consider are:

- Our armed forces are near the breaking point spread out on two fronts.
- It will set the M.E. aflame and will unite it with the sole purpose of expelling us.
- Russia who largely trades with Iran and is building their nuclear reactors, and China (yes, the same China) who also trades and gets most of their oil from Iran, are not just going to sit by the sidelines.

Put all these things together and we are in a war that our currently strugling economy has no chance of sustaining and will most certainly break us. Then we can say bye bye to the US.

I think BC is just using the ol' GOP fear-mongering book to intimidate a few votes for McSame.

I think Kristol is telling the truth for once because he knows Bush as well as we do.

He knows he is a zealot who acts from his gut with little idea of how things are going to turn out, because his p brain does not deal with contingencies and only sees "victory"..

we should be scared, very scared, and figure out a way to get this idiot out of power before he sinks our country, which is imminent, as Obama IS going to win.

But what kind of country will be left for him to govern, is really the question I think.

I hope Obama brings Bush to trial for war crimes.

History needs to show future generations that people that ignore Habeas corpus are tried for their crimes

I hope Obama does too, but has made no promises yet. Its not too late. Why doesn't he join with Dennis Kucinch who followed Ralph Nader's call?

Ralph Nader stood outside of the White House in May and called for the immediate resignation or impeachment of Bush/Cheney and said he would go after as president. That's was courageous! Even Lou Dobbs has called for the impeachment of Bush. Why can't more Democrats do that?

Chicken Hawk/war criminals like Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush, Wolfowitz and other war/violence/fear mongers should be hauled into court for violating our Constitution and their oath of office. Lest we be confused here, lets not misunderstand that this band of would welcome WW III for their own glory and at humanities expense.

If the Democrats under Pelosi give them a free ride, the Democrats will live to regret it. The neocons will have gotten away with murder, be vindicated by their fascist friends, and poison the well for the next president as mismanagement comes to full fruition.

No. Our Constitution must be protected under all and every situation. If there is to be any future rule of law in our nation, we must all be firm and resolute and not politely excuse the decimation of our Constitution by these war mongers.

You make Bush knows he is going to be impeached especially on war crimes while he is still in power, then you force him to take on the powers granted to him before, where by he can declare a state of emergency at any time of his liking without having to consult with the congress. Once that happens he will become a dictator and stay in power forever as only he alone than still reserve the right as to when to call off the state of emergency.

Yes, the neo-cons play politics with war and human life...we pretty much already knew this, but thanks, Billy, for confirming it.

I'm more concerned the Republicans will do another 9-11.

Attacking Iran wouldn't guarantee support. Another 9-11 would.

Given the way the Iraq war was sold, I wouldn't put it past the president to attack Iran based on who will be the next president.

I have had bad feelings about Bush and Iran for sometime....I would not put it past Bush to get us into another war before he leaves office - however, what man/woman power he intends to use is beyond me ....my son is on his third tour of duty in Iraq...is he going to have to spend another three tours in Iran?

I hope that Gates will have some sense and convince Bush to not take such a disastrous action. But now that Bush has promoted Petraeus who is in favor of military action against Iran that seems unlikely. It would put undue strain on an already overstretched military. Bush won't support the Webb GI bill but has no problem sending our courageous troops to multiple tours of duty or even a third war. I hope your son stays safe.

Thank you for your son's and your family's sacrifice.

Unfortunately, I believe the answer to your question is yes. This egomaniac will do anything he thinks is right.

We should have impeached him a year ago or more...its a shame the Dems are so afraaid of doing what is right.

I know a man, his son is back from iraq, unemployed for a few years now, PTSD. THe man himself was in Vietnam, and took him a few years of wandering round, drugs, alcohol, before moving forward. unfortunately he is still a republican, thinks the democrats are soft on national security and defence.

May be ideas are more important than human lives. For the people who care for human lives are not even appreciated, by the ones who are being cared for.

may be that is why, wars have been fought since eons, and millions have died in those wars. And millions will.

I want you to know how much I appreciate what your son does for this country and I pray that he doesn't have to deal with a tour of duty in Iran. I cannot believe what kind of President we have---it's sickening. God bless you and your son.

Your son's duty is much appreciated. Our troops have been used and abused for much too long.
Let the Bush twins volunteer for Iran.
