Mike Barnicle capped off a very sad and difficult week with a bad weekend, running over his family's dog just days after saying goodbye to his close friend Tim Russert.

"I ran over the dog," Barnicle admitted on "Morning Joe" this morning, before apologizing to viewers for starting their week off on a sad note.

Watch:

Barnicle was one of the selected speakers at Tim Russert's memorial service last week, where he described his friend in the summers of his life. Watch the video, and read the transcript, of his speech at Russert's memorial here.

How sad, but how can he and nasty Pat laugh about it, that is the sad part, not real concerned, just makes a good story for him to tell, just another dog to throw away..............

I simply adore Mike Barnacle. I'm so sorry this happened to him on top of his dear human friend's death. I wish Morning Joe would replace silly Mika and brain dead Joe with Barnacle and Rachel Maddow. And leave Pat Buchanan in place. He kind of works in that atmosphere.

I like Mika--she's usually good about not adopting GOP talking points, and she seems pretty earthy to me.

Barnacle and Rachel would be great. Joe's ego is too big for me, and lame brain Mika is annoying as h*ll with the sighs and moans etc. she injects while people are talking. She's like a freaking mother hen on that show! Morning Joe is unwatchable to me. I go to C-Span's Washington Journal.

Our Constitution is being shredded and you're posting clips about some poor dead dog? I'm an animal lover - I care for three dogs of my own and I love them to death - but please, could we have a little perspective here? It's bad enough that MSNBC milked every rating point out of the passing of Tim Russert, reporting every gory detail of his death as recounted by his doctor, then capitalizing on the genuine grief of his poor family and friends by televising every step of the grieving process, then analyzing the televising of every step of the grieving process. So now every mention of death is worth posting? There's still plenty of death and misery over in Iraq and Afghanistan. Lots of good men who were great fathers have died over there and continue to die, all of it financed by our tax dollars, but it's more important to see Pat Buchannon giggling over the death of Barnicle's dog?

With all the facinating and interesting people out there, why does MSNBC insist upon dredging the bottom of the barrel as a recruitment practice?

Mike Barnicle is a moron, a blowhard and the worst option imaginable.

Not calling Tweety a saint. But some of us warned you, before you get rid of Matthews, make sure you know what you're replacing him with. Otherwise it could be a sexist, Northeastern, spittle-flying pig even worse than him.

Don't underestimate MSNBC. Yes, they can sink lower. Plus at least Matthews asks tough questions. Barnicle just kind of mumbles and looks incompetent.

He does not show any compassion for another human being to what he shows to his own pet.

Doesn't anyone remember that Mike Barnicle was caught fabricating columns for the Boston Globe?

From Wikipedia

In 1998, Barnicle was forced to resign from the Boston Globe amid questions about the sources of two of his columns. The first column, dated August 2, 1998, allegedly contained unattributed material from the 1997 book Brain Droppings by George Carlin.[1]

Review of previous Barnicle columns by the Globe revealed another possible fabrication in an October 8, 1995 piece. The column recounted the story of two sets of parents with cancer-stricken children. When one of the boys, a black child, died, the parents of the other boy, a white child who had begun to recover, sent the dead child's parents a check for $10,000 USD. When the Globe could not locate the people in the story, Barnicle said he did not obtain the story from any of the parents, but from a nurse, yet did not produce the name of the nurse. When editors could not find a death that matched that of the child's in the piece, Barnicle was asked to resign.[2]

Soon afterward, the New York Daily News and the Boston Herald recruited him to write for them.[3] Barnicle told reporters that he had nothing but "fond feelings for 25 years at the Globe."

I mean...what is the world is this man adding to a so called reputable network?

This question needs repeating...

"RobinSeattle:

Why does Mike Barnicle still have a job in the media? He was fired from the Boston Globe for fabricating and plagiarising stuff in his columns (one of those uncredited passages was from George Carlin, btw), I wouldn't trust this guy to tell me the right time, much less give me information on an important issue."

Seriously???? WHY????

Liberals are always using family members and in this case a dog to get empathy from the audience. Al Gore, John Edwards, etc. They have no shame.

And republicans always use those same incidences as a way to evoke jokes from their audience.
You and Pat etc have no shame.

I guess George Bush telling the sob story of his little sister Robin during the 2000 election was important policy discourse? Get a clue before you spout ignorance.

and then there are the 'die-hard" neoconic Bushlers who promote and stay the course in an egregious war they start with false pretenses and to fill their coffers of the top 1% and have minons willing to follow no matter how much against their actual BEST interest or how further shim-shammed-scammed into thinking somehow THEY are true patriots and the Bushlers and McCain are somehow provind them security despite the fact the policies have LESSENED actual ecurity in this hoeland from sea to shining sea and border to border !!! (suggest a reality check is in order, but for some, well evidently too difficult to comprehend so hence, they wrap themselves in a flag and take to their armchairs and spout the various whines about liberals and etc. deluding themselves that THEY TOO are the deserving and all others but scum !!!)

Well, since the Republicans use their dogs for hunting - one goes down and it's easily replaced by another. No muss - no fuss. And forget emotion. It just aint' there.

I suppose you haven't seen the Bush videos of Barney the dog. And I guess you've never heard about Nixon's infamous Checkers speech. And then there was George H.W. Bush's dog Millie, the only presidential pet to apparently write a book.

And they wonder why I hate Republicans. I mean, what is so goddamn funny about running over your dog? In most families, normal families anyway, the dog is at least as beloved as any of the family's human members. How they can all sit around and guffaw over this is past comprehending. Does anybody even care whether or not the poor bowzer even survived?

I would be crushed if I lost one of my best friends one weekend then ran over my own dog the next. And I would hope that my co-workers would show a little sympathy, or at least be respectful.

This reminds me. Remember when Rom-ney went on that family road trip and strapped the family dog to the top of the car for the whole trip b/c there was no room inside the car? At least Barnacle did it by accident!

If the dog was in a crate and securely fastened, this would be safer then riding in the back of a pickup truck.

..'if the dog was in a crate and fastened securely"...uh, HUH?..was a feeblized joke attempt right ? and would have been perhaps safer if in a crate in the back up of a pickup but NOT strapped to roof of car with the breezes blowing thru his fur in any case !!! Unfortunately, likely not just Romney who does these sorts of things...Would have suggested perhaps putting the family dog in a kennel while on vacation before strapping in a crate to the roof of the car ...heartfelt compassion would have so dictated for "most" or perhaps a larger vehicle , one of those larger bus/rec vehicles that COULD accomodate ALL INSIDE !!!

WHY IS BUCHANAN STILL ON MSNBC?

Its an Irish Catholic Channel. Don't get mad at me for writing that. Look at the hosts and guests. Then, comment. One falsity in this country is the notion that we have a monolithic "White People". We dont. We have Irish, British, Germans etc. And they all have their prejudices, Jingoisms and Clanish tendencies. That most MSNBC hosts and guests are Irish Catholics can't be a coincidence. You think I'm being picky? Fine.

My problem is with a lower group. The group that think they are White. But, real White People do NOT consider them to be their equal. Or to be White at all. This sub group are the Jews and the Italians. And the Eastern European etc. They're somewhat darker than the real White People. But, this wannabe White Group give Blacks the most trouble in this country. Just like its very hard to elect a Black person into high office, such as the Presidency, these people forget, its equally hard for them to advance. Thats why Dukakis lost. He's not White. Thats an example. I like Mike. These people are people who look like Antonin Scalia. There's no difference between a Mexican American and Antonin Scalia to me. I know, you think I'm kidding. I am dead serious. So, stop being a pretender. Lets all work for equality and fairness. Stop picking on Blacks. You are not superior to anybody. Get over it.

The Irish, see Ireland (Eire - Aryans (Celtic)) are white, although their Germanic blood came from Vikings and some other admixtures.

You don't know what you're talking about. Vikings weren't Germanic, and Indo-Aryans are not the ancestors of the Irish.

"There's no difference between a Mexican American and Antonin Scalia to me."

What do you have against Mexican-Americans? I don't think most Mexican-Americans are hateful, disgusting individuals as you imply.

And at least the Irish males on MSNBC are not the really mean and ignorant types (Buchanan the exception) that you get on FOX Noise. Still an unfortunate lack of diversity.
