Chris Matthews

Today on MSNBC's "Hardball," which aired live at 5pm, Chris Matthews was joined by Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd for a discussion about Charlie Black's comment that McCain would benefit from a terrorist attack. A weary-looking Matthews accidentally referred to the "Obama headquarters" when talking about Osama bin Laden. He instantly apologized and got a word of encouragement from Mitchell. In February, a picture of bin Laden popped up on "Hardball" during a mention of Obama, which Matthews apologized for later in the program.

Watch Tuesday's slip:

Is that Chris Mateus, the famous ice cream maker?

What's really stupid is that they're all basically agreeing with what Charlie Black said.

IA with this I think people say that they trust McCain as far as terrorism because the situation hasnt happened. I believe that they would feel more secure if someone like Obama who has a cool head was in charge than someone like McCain espeically since and I will say this not to offend McCain is seen as old. They think he can handle it because they are speaking about something that hasnt happened but thats not a gurantee that if the actual event occurred they will still feel the same way because then factors like AGE works aganist him. Also if that theoretical attack come from say Afghanistan or Pakistan McCain is done because it would bring to bear what Obama has been screaming these past few months. It depends on where the attack comes from and how McCain handles it. I dont think its automatic at all.

Oh well... these things happen...if it had been anyone else, the ranting and whining on here would be deafening, but since he has been so pro-Obama, he will get a pass...

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:37 AM on 06/25/2008

No -- he gets a pass because CLEARLY it was unintentional. It wasn't premeditated and conniving as we've seen in the past from those who are trying to be funny or who are continuing the pattern of fearmongering in this country. Chris made an honest error and everyone around him knew it.

I was watching when this happened and I could see Chris was clearly upset with himself and quickly corrected himself. That is not his typical behavior, so I think it was a sincere mistake that he regretted. There are lots of stupid things he's said that weren't honest mistakes, so focus on them.

I'm about sick of this crap. I'm starting to believe we actually deserve McCain. We Americans, clearly need to suffer in order to appreciate life. Just like the dude in the movie "The Matrix" suggested. We will reject a good life. We clearly need angst, aggravation and disrespect. So go ahead and sabotage Obama so you can have a JOHN.

Maybe we deserve to have a hot-tempered, old guy who doesn't care what happens as long as everyone does what he says. I'm almost willing to suffer with the masses.

Whereas I'm no fan of Matthews, I do see that it was a slip of the tongue, which is NOT something you can say of the disgraceful, race baiting Republicans.

so how do we get from Christy Mathews having another Puffball faux pas to "disgraceful, race baiting Republicans"? Seems to me the majority of the "race" discussion has been coming from the left.

Oh, and here's another slip of the tongue you may find amusing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APx2YJ-_jos

Enjoy.

You are right...the left says "we won't talk about race", then proceed to do just that, hand wringing and plotzing in the process.

I'm not buying it. I don't know anyone who mixes up those two names. It's not even close.

Osama bin Laden
Barack Obama

One's a first name, the other is a last name. Save yourself the trouble and call Obama by his full name: Barack Obama.

Rachell Maddow did it today too on Gregory segment... She knew she stumbled on her words but worked right through it.. Good job as many people did this during the primary campaign season..

It's when people do the mix-up of names "intentionally" that it is flat wrong..

Yes.. >WE

I love the way Obamabots will cover up for those who side with them...mispronouncing one's name, intentionally or unintentionally, is unprofessional...how hard is it to get his name right?

Can you imagine any CEO worth his salt getting a major client's name wrong?

A TV figure who messes up names needs to study them more, and work through them more often...NO excuse for it...period.

Part of Chris's problem is that he talks so fast because he is so intent on out talking everyone else that he often misspeaks. He doesn't even give himself time to swallow his own drool !

Disregarding his comment, since we know if was a slip of the tongue, I do have this observation.

As some of us predicted (to counter those who mistakenly thought Matthews was a liberal) Matthews would resort to favoring McCain once the general election commnenced. The only reason he supported Obama so strongly was because of his total disdain for Hillary. Or as he once pronounced, "I hater her, I hate her."

One example was clear today when he insisted in more than one segment that there was nothiing wrong with Charlie Black's faux pas. His first argument was, "What is wrong with telling the truth?"

He later defended it on the basis that Hillary Clinton made a similar comment. Naturally his panelists disagreed.

Did you like Andrea Mitchell's comment that "no one has worked harder in the Senate for

our National Security than McCain?" (Paraphrasing)

Duh! Huh?

McCain has missed more Senate votes than anyone else ever has.

She may be right...Obama has been absent from so many key votes on national security, it is hard for him to say anything on the matter and be taken seriously...SAYING you oppose draconian measures, but not being there to vote on them, or allowing telecoms to spy on people, is not a sign that one is great on national security...McCain may be on the wrong side, but he is there doing his job for what he believes in...Obama needs to step up, get away from the fundraisers, and do the same.
