Fox Ad Countdown

TVNewser reports that Fox News has taken out an ad in this week's Ad Age congratulating "The O'Reilly Factor" for 90 consecutive months atop the 8pm cable news ratings. "At 8PM, cable news shows have come and gone," the ad proclaims, "but only one has been #1 for 90 consecutive months: The O'Reilly Factor with Bill O'Reilly" (MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" recently unseated the "Factor" in the desirable Adults 25-54 demographic weekly ratings for the first time, but O'Reilly won that week in total viewers nonetheless).

The ad also included a not-so-subtle jab at Olbermann and "Countdown" (as well as CNN's "Election Center,") including the shows in a long list of canceled programs both networks have run to attempt to compete with O'Reilly in the 8pm hour — and partially crossing out their titles as well (the Cou in Countdown and the CNN in CNN Election Center) are struck-through.

I watch Countdown every night and I will continue. O'Reilly is an idiot. I lost all respect for him along time ago.

check the facts... every one of these shows has been cancelled while he's been #1

olbermann is exposing himself as a fraud on a daily basis.

from Nielsen TV Ratings Data June 25, 2008

8PM - P2+ (25-54)
The O’Reilly Factor- 2,307,000 viewers
Countdown w/ Olbermann – 950,000 viewers

P2+ means viewers older than 2 years. Olbermann must really be cleaning up on the one year olds to be able to compete the way he says he does!!

I noticed that this story about O'Reilly has garnered over 560 comments compared to a current story about Olbermann which has only garnered 183. Clearly O'Reilly is dominating in this demographic.

I would respectfully point out that O'Reilly kicks Olbermann's ass even in the Huffpost ratings, amongst committed left-wing nut jobs, who claim to not like him.

Be truthful. You really do like him, don't you.?

Fox News is a joke, it's equivalent to watching Jerry Springer, it's full of idiots, but like a train wreck, you just stop and stair.

Do you ever notice that most of these far right a-holes live in FLORIDA? Second worst state in the country (Texas is first).

The typical Fux watcher is elderly and uneducated. It is the National Inquirer of the airwaves.

Hey! I live in Florida . . and you are .. absolutely . . correct.

I agree with your analysis on Texas and Florida. Perhaps the two biggest red-neck states. Notice all the scandalous bizarre news that comes out of those places? Cults, kidnappings, disappearances, gun accidents, strange murders ... it's like a circus clown show in those parts.

Yeah, but we didn't illegally railroad our biggest Democratic contributors into prison like Alabama, so I think Texas should be third.

I agree. Two very heavily democratic states. Just full of idiots and uneducated rednecks. Disgusting.

While strong Lead-in shows are important to ratings, so is continuity in substance and quality throughout the broadcast day. I believe MSNBC's biggest ratings problem is contained in that enormous block of time devoted nightly to child predators and prison inmates. Fox is crap, but it's contiguous crap. If MSNBC would begin to think of themselves as a 24 hour Network devoted to news and news issues, I believe their ratings would climb dramatically and across the board.

Too say the least of the fact they air two hours of CM and his ego. MSNBC IMO sank themselves during the primary and continue to do so. News they don't air, constant jabbing hoping to get a rise out of someone they do. If people are looking for actually news MSNBC is not the place to look.

Yeah, those prison, predator and similarly crime-related shows are a big turn-off! Which is what I do when they come on. "Countdown with Keith Olberman", "Race to the White House" and "Morning Joe" can't be beat. "Hardball" would be more palatable if Chris Matthews would ask a question and then shut up until the person he asked has a chance to answer. His constant interruptions drive me nuts!!!

Yes, the Lockdown shows are total bilge - who really wants to spend time watching a bunch of inmates. The "Gotcha" shows with Chris Hanson had their moment, but have been repeted so many times that I doubt anyone watches them.

MSNBC could improve their ratings and content if they let one of the Air America lefties have a show - they already feature Rachel Maddow on their network as a guest every so often. I'd like to see Randi Rhodes "Shake her boobies" on MSNBC, but maybe she is a little too controversial.

The recent Inside Edition outtake shows O'Reilly for what he is. A spoiled, petulant little boy that never grew up. It gives great insight into the man's personality. He can be all charm one minute, then become a snarling, raging maniac. These kind of people scare me. Congratulations to Fox News for congratulating itself. It's about their speed.

I used to watch O’Reilly, but he became a little bit too much like an old man screaming “Turn down that music.” That said. He is still 1,000 times better than Olbermann. Olbermann’s show has one shallow theme, “Republicans bad, Democrats good.” Except for that one time he attacked a Democrat, in defense of another Democrat. It takes some pretty big swigs of the Kool-Aid to believe in the unadulterated virtue of Democrats. Or Republicans for that matter.

To UnbiasView: Stop confusing us with facts. If I want facts, I’ll go to the link in the article that cherry picks the week of May 30th for A25-54 stats.

If you'd watched Olbermann this week, you'd know how incorrect your assessment of his attitude toward Democrats is. He's royally annoyed . . .publicly . . . vocally . . . titanically annoyed at the Congressional Dems over their FISA bill "compromise" fiasco.

I don't like O'Reilly one bit but he's got numbers. They are very old but they are viewers.
I really like Olberman but I'd like to see him have on someone who disagrees with him on occasion.
A good debate is more interesting than the same faces day in day out agreeing with each other.
They are smart and I agree with them most of the time but it's nice to get a wider variety of opinion.
Not they usual deceptive GOP apologists but there is more in the world than that and the moderate left.
